  • First travel vlog! Sharing with you the first episode of my travels to the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Jordan, featuring Egypt) - Layover at Cairo International Airport.
There is no direct flight from Toronto to Riyadh, and my best choice was flying with EgyptAir transiting in Cairo (short layover for the first stop in Cairo, and free upgrade to business class for full return flight itinerary: Amman-Cairo-Toronto). FYI, EgyptAir has a no-alcohol policy on board.
Tips for people transiting at Cairo International Airport:
    * It is difficult to connect to the wifi in the airport unless you have a local phone number
    * Cairo airport's air conditioning is blasting high so make sure to have a light jacket
    * Egypt's tourist visa is USD 25 (one-time entry fee) so if you have a long layover, you might as well visit the country! This is no longer valid; You must obtain a visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate near you before your departure according to the Travel Advice and Advisories from the Government of Canada travel.gc.ca/d...
    * There is a museum on the second floor of the airport (entry fee: USD 3)
    * No shower facility available in any lounge of the airport
    Stay tuned for more episodes!

Hi, thank you so much for your questions! I booked a private tour through Tours by Locals (toursbylocals.com). There are many tour guides on the website along with detailed information on the tour they provide and their prices. I'd say it's definitely worth booking a tour if you are going to have a long transit time in Cairo! Make sure to check if you require a visa on your passport to enter Egypt; I hold a Canadian passport and was able to get the visa inside the airport on the spot (one time entry visa fee was $25USD), it was very easy and fast! I hope you have an amazing time in Cairo! I will be uploading more videos soon 😉 Please make sure to like and subscribe, thank you! 😀

Did you need a visa just for the transfer? Did you take one in advance or after you landed? In the latter case, how long did it take?

Thank you for your question! I hold a Canadian passport and did not need a visa for transfer. However, on my return, I had a 12 hour layover so I decided to get a single-entry tourist visa at Cairo airport (on the spot), which cost me $25USD. It took less than 30 minutes in total to get the visa on my passport 😀

@@KriSuzi Oh, OK. Thanks for answering! I have an hour transit in Cairo with Egyptian Airlines and worried how chaotic it could become and if I can make it. 😅

@fedoralexandersteeman6672 I see. When I arrived for the first time in Cairo, I did not realize that there was a nationwide clock change from standard time to daylight saving time (where the clocks are switched forward by one hour in summer). The next clock change in Egypt will be on April 26th, 2024, at 00:00am to daylight saving time. The clocks are then set one hour forward, so just make sure that your arrival date and time, your transfer flight time, and everything else is still good to go. Things can get complicated depending on where your gate is for your transfer, but it's not too difficult to get around inside the airport. Wishing you safe travels! @krisuzi i thought as Canadian we now need visa from canada before visiting Egypt? I also have a layover in cairo, as a Canadian passport holder would I be able to obtain transit visa on arrival at cairo or single entry visa if I want to go out the airport?

@@motorsho2 Hi, thank you for this information! Yes, you are correct: "You must obtain a visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate near you before your departure" according to the Travel advice and advisories from the Government of Canada (last updated May 6, 2024) travel.gc.ca/destinations/egypt
