The fact they put Croc right next to the Joker where he could be tormented every hour of the day kind of encapsulates how shit a facility Arkham really is. Even if you ignore the whole supernatural "there's a demon in the basement" thing, how the hell is *anyone* in there supposed to leave sane, even the ones who aren't patients?
I legit asked on reddit once if arkham has ever rehabilitated someone and they couldn't give a straight answer
I was thinking the same thing, putting Croc next to Joker who can just torment him like that is insane and terrible.
That's what happened to the character The Great White Shark. He was already a scumbag who thought he got away with his crimes by tricking the court that he was insane so he would he sent to Arkham instead of Blackgate but ironically was driven insane by the other inmates there

Tbh the only iteration of arkham that doesn't look like a shithole afaik is on batman earth one. Place looks like a proper place for rehab, and the two face of that universe is at least on the road to recovery there

It's hard to say. Edgar was likely just happy to have someone to talk to who wasn't planning on killing him. And the wife eh... Relationships are complicated. Both could have been cheating so.
Croc as a character needs to get a writer who can give him a arc that sticks for once. He has potential, but it's been back tracked by writers every time.

@@LaughingJokerProd true, and I'll give you that Atleast he seemed to genuinely care for croc and actively tried to defuse the situation when ge realized what was happening. The Wife wanting to kill her husband is one thing, but betraying croc seemed unnecessary.
@@jacklau2558 Loyalty goes a long way. I am certain that croc would have let Juliette go if she would have a been honest. However, when you take into account how she confided in him and then was able to kill him, it just comes off as manipulation and betrayal. Keep in mind she calls him a good man, and while she is hesitant to let him be shot when he is walking towards the hideout she is at with her lover, she goes along with it and says that he is not human.
While Edgar did use him, he trusted him. He trusted his wife with him and never felt the need to have weapons on hand for him. He defends him when Juliette calls him "pet killer"
You could look at his lack of fear as stupidity or certainty that stems from the kindness they could have shown him for their own gain. On the other hand, for someone who seemed so lonelyba fearful of betrayal, maybe croc was his only true friend
I think both Edgar and Juliette were bad to each other. While Juliette did manipulate Croc at the end, it isn't like Edgar was actually interested in him as a person, only as a enforcer at best.
A lot of people say that Mr. Freeze is the most tragic Batman villain but it's actually Killer Croc. His mother died givinng birth to him and his father abandoned him to his abusive and alcoholic aunt who bullied him his entire life due to his appearance. Her persistent alcoholism prevented him from growing up in a suitable environment. As a teenager, Waylon had no friends, and was the object of ridicule of those who knew him. Waylon was a regular visitor to the juvenile detention center and was finally tried and convicted as an adult when he was a teenager. Out of prison, he found a job in a carnival sideshow... wrestling alligators. It was at that point that Waylon began referring to himself as Killer Croc. His physiology created new primal needs for living so he found a home in the sewers of Gotham. In the sewers some of the homeless people who lived there began to serve him even fight for him on occasion. Croc would grow to care about them and look after them. Croc isn't supposed to be a literal giant crocodile man but a guy suffering from a severe skin condition that makes him look like one. In spite of this Waylon is often depicted as having more than scaly skin and is often given a pronounced snout and tail. Which makes no sense, why would a skin condition give a human the literal physical characteristics of a Crocodile? Yes, Croc has done some bad things and made some wrong decisions in the comics, but that was only a result of his tormented youth and being rejected by society. All because he was different. However, ultimately in spite his villainous habits Croc is a noble character and is often portrayed as being the champion of the oppressed and downtrodden. He's a good guy who tried his best, but the world just keeps putting him down.
Yeah. I think what a lot of people don’t realize is some times poeple don’t do bad things out of no where. And it’s just not fair to expect poeple keep a stable mental after a certain amount of abuse.
And the best part? Dude gave birth to a child in one short series 🤣
I'd say that depends on the depiction, while Mr. Freeze is predominantly depicted as the grieving husband trying to cure his wife by whatever means possible, leading to his own debilitating affliction, Killer Croc is very flippantly depicted as a tragic villain, and more than half the time is just depicted as a monster of a human in a monsters body.
In the most popular media universes, Arkhamverse(video games) and Timverse(BTAS, Justice League, etc), Killer Croc is a murderous rampaging monster, while Freeze is the desperate husband.
i say they are both very tragic human being they have both lost something that has cut them both out of socety
At this point crocs skin condition has been more or less retconned into the beginning stages of his metahuman genes progressively making him more animalistic. Which I gather makes his tape even more tragic.
Here’s a story that shows how much of a caring man Waylon is. Roy Harper, struggling after being kicked out of Team Arrow for his heroin addiction, went to fight Waylon so he can kill him. But Waylon stopped and talked with Roy, and is the reason Roy is still alive.
That’s Roy’s most cherished memory. The memory of the time Waylon saved his life.
Under all the scars and scaly skin, Waylon is a caring man.
He still bit Aaron Cash's hand off though.

Croc is like Harley Quinn and Venom to me where I do like how those characters have two main versions of themselves. With Killer Croc I do enjoy when he is just straight up an unapologetic monsterous villain as seen in the Arkham games. I also do like the other version of him like the one you described. Where he's still a killer but gradually turns into a sort of anti villain who forms relationships with people. Like with Red Arrow, protecting the homeless people in the sewers, and in the Suicide Squad such as in the Injustice comics where they view him as a friend and he's in a relationship with Orca

The saddest part I think it's the man seemingly having some genuine respect and trust for Croc. Like, he's using him and gets paranoid, but actually defends him when the woman badmouths him and calms down and apologizes when he gets paranoid about him.
Feels like there was a genuine bond there, despite everything.
I think of it like a guy who has a vicious guard dog who is hostile to everyone except with it's owner

Unlike other villains who see their henchmens only as tools and even kill them at times. Croc always genuinely cared for those that followed him, treated him well or he saw as family. There was one particular Batman game where you have to fight him in a room alongside several prison inmates. Whenever Batman knocked one inmate to the ground and Croc was near him, he would stop attacking Batman to kneel down and gently help the inmate back to his feet.

Croc's whole life revolves around getting sent to prison for being seen as a monster, and escaping because he's treated like a monster. Meanwhile, he just wants to be accepted.

As someone who's always been an outcast I really feel bad for Croc. My parents were never there for me, I was bullied in school, my cousin and best friend (really only friend) killed 2 police officers before shooting himself when I was 15 and I've had to fight tooth and nail just to survive. Something within me really relates to Croc and kind of just want to give him a hug and tell him it's going to be okay as a fellow outcast.
Yeah, even though I do think Mr Freeze takes the title of "most tragic villain", Croc is easily second place. His story is literally the definition of tragic and this story showed how evil humanity can be and that some people will manipulate anybody to get what they want. Croc's words of "They're the monsters, not me, put me back" was so powerful.

Freeze has the ability to save his wife and realistically he could have worked as a genius scientist with others directly on a cure for his wife but he chooses to be a villain to do so. He was screwed over by some for sure but that’s not a unique experience for people to have.
People get screwed over all the time and if it drives you to be a psycho killer then were you ever really a good person doing things for the good of others or were you just another bastard willing to screw over anyone for your own goals?
Edit: I forgot to say that what I’m getting at is freeze is the most known tragic villain whereas croc is the most tragic villain. Croc never had a good life that went bad from an accident or loss, he only had loss and was always hated.

the annoying thing about Croc is he's actually been through chracter development arcs multiple times. It never "sticks" and eventually some new writer/artist brings him back as a slightly more powerful than human cannibalistic thug for the bat-family to beat up. As with most things bat-man these days..I blame it on a 5th dimensional imp editing reality. (only way riding space junk from high earth orbit to the fortress of solitude with pinpoint accuracy while using his UNDERWEAR AS A HEAT SHIELD FOR HIS FACE makes sense. go read the failsafe soryline. remember that the robot was created by the lunatic alternate personality of the "Batman of Zur en arrh" that is LITERALLY haunted by Bat-mite in his debut in an earlier storyline.)
@PJ Rivera ahh, the status quo, the reason I stopped reading any comic without an ending. They just revisit or revamp some character they haven't used for a couple years whenever they need a villain. I think it was actually buying Watchmen that killed my enjoyment of serial comics, it made me realize what actual good comic writing looked like

There's a recent comic series about an aged Catwoman, Riddler and Killer Croc teaming up to break into the batcave after batman's apparent death. Waylon and her are very sweet together and they've got a wonderful friendship, helping each other get back into shape and being each othets support. He even crashes out on Selina's couch, since he doesn't really have a place to stay. He's also tight with Edward, and spots for him on the bench, something the Riddler really isnt particularly intetested in doing but is necessary: they all need to be fit.
All Waylon really needs is some serious therapy, a well tailored medication regimen, and most importantly to just have a solid group of friends who dont look at him like he's a freak and treat him lik shit. Every time he has been given that in the past he is allowed to be exactly what he is. What he is is a big, nice dunderhead, a loyal sweet oaf, an agreeable goon. He's not a super genius but he's loyal and self sacrificing and devoted and has a good heart.
Its a shame that so many hack writers refuse to explore those sides of waylon and refuse to do anything except subject him to tragedy after tragedy or use him when they need a monstrous cannibal savage. Just let the big guy be happy for once. Besides, its not like there aren't plenty of FAR freakier looking people wandering around the DC world. If Tawky Tawny can be integrated into society without many problems, so can Waylon.
That ongoing Catwoman series ia excellent in this regard and well worth the read, Croc is excellent in every panel he's in. Seeing him happy and contented is something that I didn't really realize that I have wanted to see for as long as I've been aware of the character.

The name of the series is Catwoman: Lonely City and it's extremely good. Aside from Catwoman and Croc, it's an interesting look at how Batman's rogues gallery live without Batman. Some of them are irredeemable lunatic murderers who either self-destruct or get killed, like Zasz and Joker, but most of them just kind of...settle into relatively normal lives. Poison Ivy starts a sustainable coffee bean business and puts the money towards peacefully (mostly, lol) regrowing the Amazon. The Riddler, who just wants people who will challenge him intellectually, discovers the online puzzle solving community and has a small business selling puzzles and rating & solving ones gifted to him on his channel. Croc has arthritis and is totally out of shape, but he isn't really treated like a monstrous freak and is a blue collar dockworker. Mr Freeze is getting grief counseling from Harley Quinn, and Deadshot retired after finally achieving the financial security he wanted for his kids. The Penguin, who only really wants to be respected and to live comfortably, went straight and is a politician doing good work for Gotham.
It's a very good series, one of the best Batman-adjacent titles I've read in years, and the relationship between Selina and Croc is absolutely adorable and Poison Ivy as everyone's Big Gay Excitable Auntie is great.
Absolutely worth the read, I highly recommend it.

Honestly, he's my favorite Batman villain. Mostly because when the writers give a damn, he's a bad person, but it's always unclear if he'd have been a better or even a good person if he'd been given a chance.
Like when he's Roy's sponsor when he was recovering from his addiction while he's incarcerated in Belle Reave.
Even when he takes over Tusk's hostel in Monstertown.
So is the dude who agreed to be used as a weapon, knowing what he is. Lol

I’ve always thought that Killer Croc is a villain that can get his own movie. It’s just that it would be difficult to come up with a story script that would paint him as scary but also tragic. I feel like if you’re gonna make a movie about him then using this comic as a baseline would be a great start.
I mean, Joker managed to humanize *The Joker*, so from a movie perspective, that would be as good of a starting point as any.

Funny enough, Edgar seemed to genuinely care for croc but encouraged his violent side for profit and Juliette seemed to not care at all about him while playing off his caring, protective nature.
It’s an interesting twist on this kind of story and genuinely keeps you guessing on who’s actually the good guy and bad guy, with the friend who enabled the monster others see in croc and the conwoman who saw the good man in him and exploited it.
Killer Croc is probably the villain I most want to get a redemption arc that (afaik) hasn't already. As far as I'm concerned, just put the dude in Florida where they'd probably think he's just a really big gator and leave him alone

If I recall, the Earth-1 version of Croc helped Batman and as a result got to live in peace in the Batcave

You know I always wondered why Bruce never hired Waylon as a bodyguard or security for Wayne Industries.
Because croc is a liability and Bruce persona has to make him seem egoistic and judgemental. Unlike Batman of course.
Because with the psychological trauma he's suffered, followed up with the animal instinct Wayland has developed would be far more of a liability for the company than an asset. Let alone no one else would want to work with that guy.

I don't like that Batman and Gordon refer to him as a monster, but I think it's a case of unreliable narrator. Joker wasn't there, neither was Croc. Joker is implanting the idea that two people who want to help Croc also see him as a monster, and the one place he can do that in the story is where Croc isn't present - to me it's subtle manipulation.
I mean both Bruce and Jim are first responders too Crocs feeding frenzies they see the worst he can do at some point you gotta realize that he's just an animalistic thug at heart.
Batman feels for them but also know that they choose to be this way

I love that Batman is basically feeling sorry for his foes and wants to help them above all. He understands them as he has his own tragic story. You could even say he loves them in his way. He is a true practitioner of the christian order to love your enemies
Really loved that aspect in the Animated Series. Shame we don’t see more of it in modern comics, would have been great to see Batman talking and sympathising with Croc in this one
@@GuyMaleMan I like that in the Dark Knight returns, when Twoface thinks he looks terrible in his whole face now and not just one half, he tells to Batman: ''who are we kidding? The doctors couldn't fix me. Nothing can change what i am''. And Batman moved says: '' You and me both''. That's why we love Batman above all else. Not for his intelligence and gadgets, his skill or knowledge but because of his heart
It's that aspect of the character which has been sorely lacking in so many other adaptations, especially the movies. I think the closest we ever got was - of all things - Batman and Robin, where Batman comforts Mr. Freeze at the end instead of just beating his face in and cutting to the credits. It's crazy to think that the single worst Batman movie of all time is also the only one that remembered he's supposed to have a heart. >_<
The worst offender though, in my honest opinion, is the Dark Knight trilogy; having come out long after the animated series hit the mainstream, those films had a much bigger wealth of source material to draw from than the Warner Bros. quadrilogy did. Instead they doubled down on Batman's violent vigilantism being "the right thing for Gotham", even going so far as to have the city become much visually cleaner between Begins and Knight -- all as a direct result of his decidedly not-so-compassionate methods of "stopping crime", which only becomes more problematic the more you think about it.
@@HalloWitch93 From the whole Nolan trilogy, the 2nd movie is great because of the Joker, but i never liked the Batman in any of these movies. Actually i do not think Batman has ever been portrayed correctly on the big screen. He is super intelligent, one step ahead of everyone, and in deep knowledge of psychological trauma but we never saw this

Edgar honestly kinda cares for Croc a bit, we see him hurnt trying to tell Croc that they both have been betrayed but due to rage he killed him.

Killer Croc could be the best “terrifying yet empathetic” Batman villain if adapted correctly into live-action. On one hand he could be the ultimate super strength nightmarish monster that can’t be stopped, all whilst you could get a brilliant story about a child who’s never had a proper family in his life except for people as freakish as him.
How the hell did it take batman 36 days to track down a giant crocodile monster? Especially since he was murdering people from the mob left and right?

No witnesses and a half-decent cleanup could make even a mauling by killer croc look like a common deal gone wrong between gangsters. Plus out of everyone in Batman’s Rogues Gallery, Killer Croc is surprisingly consistent in staying out of Batman’s sight if he wants to.
It was only when Waylon just stood outside the house, then killed the bimbo that he got on Batman's radar. Until then, he was helping the mob, not his usual M.O.

whenever i see stories like this i’m reminded of the time where Batman and Killer Croc worked together because someone was invading his part of the sewer when all Croc wanted was to be left alone
Croc just needs like two decades worth of therapy and a reason to live. Tbh, I think he'd be of great help to Aquaman. He'd be an excellent tank for the King of Atlantis. He just needs something to look forward to. And a purpose.

Killer Croc is one of those instances where he works both as a Sympathetic and an Unsympathetic villain
I always felt bad for Waylon. Especially when he tries to put things right, he always fails. The other villains have potential to turn back. Many were once scientists or lawyers who could have their lives back if they tried, but Waylon is one of the few who has nothing to go back to. Recently, they had stories where he tried to go straight, and I loved those. Especially in Gotham City Monsters. But then they throw him back into the rogues gallery as a villain. I hate that. Waylon deserves so much better

I think this version of Croc would get along really well with Mr. Freeze, given that they are both tragic figures who would likely show sympathy for each other.
To paraphrase a fantastic line from a Killer Croc inspired character in Brennan Lee Mulligan's comic *Strong Female Protagonist:*
_"People are monsters. Deep down, they're all selfish and evil. They HAVE to be. Otherwise, if all those people I killed were just people..."_

Killer Croc is like Harley Quinn to me in that that there are two versions of the character that I like. With Croc I do like when he is just a straight up monster as seen with the Arkham series and Batman TAS where he is a very strong and dangerous cannibalistic foe who views people as nothing but food. I also do like the take on Croc when he is the misunderstood killer and gradually tries to "redeem" himself. Such as the comic in this video, that story where he protects the homeless people in the sewer, and in the Injustice comics where he is part of the suicide squad who views him as a friend and he is in a relationship with Orca

This may seem random, but after watching this video, I realised that Batman must regularly come across dead bodies and yet he persists forwards. I mean, I always knew this, but I never truly thought about it.
This further reinforces the notion that Batman is mentally insane. Taking on the role of Batman requires a high level of insanity, but given Gotham's dire need for his presence, he chooses to press on.
It is really sad that a guy like Croc has nothing but pain and suffering, and from what I learned not everybody bullied him based on his looks, they also were scared of him 'cause of the fact he looked like a monster, and having an abusive aunt who's so much on drugs, and a guy being abandoned by his own father, it is a serious problem, and it is really sad. Also from what I learned, when he is at Arkham asylum, he sometimes is like wanting to be fixed by wanting to look normal like in the game arkham asylum he asks a doctor "can you make me normal" and of course no one can do that, and that is really terrible too.
I really want to see a version of Waylan in the media that's a combination of the genius criminal he originally started out as (Who could also use a sniper gun) and this tragic figure, specifically like how he was in The New 52 with helping the homeless people too.
In the main thing I did like about Suicide Squad 1 is that they gave us Waylan when he started out
That's why I'm so concerned when people try to empathize with the Joker. He's past beyond salvation and that's why I like the Killing Joke. Even Batman realized Joker was a lost cause, that he abandoned his humanity a long time ago and is only an agent of chaos now
People need to remeber that the Joker is cruel, he kicks others when they are down, torture (both physically and psychologically) all the Harley Quinns he "create" and just wants to watch the world burn and Batman suffering with his controversial morality that holds him from killing the Joker
That's why I think Joker should be the one with the chains and muzzle. Waylon being in the same place as Joker will make him worse.
I love the super prominent laugh lines this artist draws Joker with.
If I worked at DC as a writer I would try my hand at giving Waylon Jones(Killer Croc) an redemption arc, now I can hear others in the comments saying that Batman has too many sympathetic characters or too many villains pulling a Heel Face Turn but some folks fail to realize that at its core the batman mythos is about Bruce holding on the hope that his rogue gallery can be better people if given the opportunity to do so, a good example of this is Harley Quinn who may have started out has Joker girlfriend and suffer all matter of abuse by him only to eventually leave him, while finding happiness in Poison Ivy and gaining her own unique Identity along the way, hell even Poison Ivy herself for the last few years has been making the transition from flat out villain to anti hero, sure everyone knows about Mr Freeze and him trying to save his wife and that's good drama however I believe that Waylon Jones would benefit from having good character development, showing more of his humanity, hell we have already seen glimpses of this when he help speedy who was trying to get him to pull a death by suicide only to have Waylon Jones become his rehab sponsor by the end of it. I can also hear people saying but he eats and kills people its too late for him, but there has been heroes and villains with larger body counts than him I'm sure anyone who writes comics can work with that little detail. Point being I think it would be great to see Waylon Jones finally gets his due and I'm sure not the only one who wants this.
Edgar was fucked up and paranoid but he seemed to at least appreciate Croc. He definitely had some innate prejudices but when he caught himself acting on them he stopped, which was an intentional choice. Too bad that like with many relationships, an outside interference (in this case, his wife's lies for her own personal gain) ended up harshly.
I’m glad i finally found a comic that shows croc side of the story and told a really interesting story of his morality and mentality and how it shows he was abused, ridiculed, bullied, it’s just SO SAD to see croc spirit shatter I liked to imagine his crime life is over in this universe after that. What’s the most saddest thing is that he will never have a happy ending possibly not even in death he might find peace.
I ain't gonna lie seeing Killer Croc irl would definitely be some terrifying shit but honestly if you got to know the guy I feel like he'd be fucking cool as fuck to hang with
Imagine if Batman came forward to Killer Croc and offers him turn his life around and get his more animalistic urges in control, like he did with Clayface, so he has an operative in the sewers and Croc could start a life as a hero. A "what if Batman made his own suicide squad team with his own rouges gallery" but without of head bomb threats
If that does happen I hope it has Freeze, Clayface, Ivy and Croc with Harley and Catwoman making sure they behave
That's actually an interesting turn, because I remember exactly the same episode of BTAS, where Croc finds freak show troupe, and they treat him with respect and even try to defend him from batman, yet Croc still robs them and when one of the characters, seal boy, asks him why he did so, he says something like "well, a monster's a monster". And while I think writing Croc as a victim isn't bad, yet the BTAS episode subverting expectations about "looks can be deceiving" and a monster being an actual horrible person and not ugly good guy is more interesting concept as fo me.
The second series more or less repeated that plotline with his teamup with Baby Doll. To me, there's a fine line that needs to be walked with Croc. The whole idea of the character, per his original 1980s story, is that abuse stemming from both his disfigurement and his ethnicity (Croc's African-American under the scales and the original story has race play a major role in how his life's gone) has shaped him into a monster, and that it's now too late for anything to be done about it. Croc will sell out people who are decent to him, not because he's innately a monster, but because at this point he's incapable of registering their kindness; he's too far gone for any sort of humane treatment to get through now.

Croc was legitimately happy working for Edgar and Edgar didn’t see him as a henchman but as a friend imagine being manipulated into murdering your best friend. And also croc looked damn sharp in that suit.
Honestly, I hope they take Croc in a similar direction that they did with Clayface awhile back. He could easily be with the good guys if he just got the chance and some genuine respect

Killer Croc is highly underrated, sadly inconsistent, and suffers a similar ill of The Lizard and some (all) other characters: Status Quo.
It's great to see different takes on the same stories and characters, but can we have at least ONE continuity were things change and grow over time? And be a reoccurring one?
Killer Croc has always been my personal favourite Batman Villain, when I was younger it was because I liked monsters, and then after I grew up I realised he was an actual character.

that ending was sad, it easy to see the villain as evil but not know what made them like that. And croc's story is super tragic and sad. If only this is fiction, how many people in real life know only pain and tragety, and are seen as the bad guy? Without knowing them.
I always did like croc, not just because of his looks but because he's the most human. I wouldn't say croc is a bad guy, he just has bad luck.
"The one time he thought he had family end up trying to back stab him." Edgar didn't back stab Croc. He was evil, yes, but actually appreciated Croc, knowing that they were a team that elevated each other.

I feel like I've had this kind of idea of what croc is for a long time. even though I was unaware of his origin, I had it in my mind he worked better in stories where he was a thinking feeling person (criminal or not) and it kind of bothers me that he is so often depicted as a brainless monster. After learning more about him and seeing this video... it really cemented that.

Ok, this is one of the only good things I can say about the OG Suicide Squad movie; that while still monstrous in form, one could *~almost~* and I mean *ALMOST* see Killer Croc and think it was a horribly disfiguring “skin condition”… and even then no
Here it’s clear that Croc’s irradiated dad got down & dirty with an irradiated croc (it mentions that his father was cruel and left him with his abusive aunt, so I’m guessing that his father was the hum- sorry… irradiated human
It also explains why he’s so defensive about his (croc) mother; afterall I’d be upset too if some dude in a dress shirt was trying to give me a deep dive about how my mother was aggressive towards me and didn’t nurture me enough… nurture isn’t in a crocs nature
Anyway, a “skin condition” wouldn’t alter the entire physiological makeup of his body, including a uniformly foot long protruding jaw with vice-like power… but being the offspring of 2 heavily irradiated interspecies beings might cause such a “condition” because that’s comic book logic right there
Anyway, even someone with seemingly lessened intelligence as Croc should be able to tell that he was being used as hired muscle from the start
He was seemingly being talked to with a degree of respect for many of his interactions with the two garbage humans, but ultimately nothing they asked him to do should’ve been seen as anything other than typical hired goon talk
If they wanted to paint him as more sympathetic, have at least one character treat him like a person that he can get attached to, male or female, likely an older person. They have to have good eyesight and a natural likable presentation with no ulterior motives. Give him a few month on what’s likely a farm by a pond or small lake that is struggling financially or having difficulty harvesting their crops
The old person/people offer him work in exchange for staying with them until he gets back on his feet (perhaps imply they simply don’t have TV and that’s why they don’t know who he is or that he’s a career criminal) and when he reluctantly agrees, that he assumes they’d stick him in the barn but is taken aback when they ask him where he’s going as his room is in the house with them
Interweave flashbacks of the farmer’s past with a child that was visually different (NOT the same condition cause that’s lazy, but still something visually different) and show the kid being treated poorly by society but always lovingly by their parents
Continue the time lapse of them providing him with the same food they are eating and the same courtesy’s that they would offer their neighbor or congregation and *never once* asking about why he looks the way he does, though they could eventually ask him how he found himself in their podunk little town and soon after see them asking the same sort of question to a regular looking human with the same genuine curiosity, but also the same acceptance and non-judgement
Show Croc getting frustrated and damaging a cart or a shed and the farmer being understanding and having a heart-to-heart with him about how damaging the item didn’t fix the situation that had Croc frustrated in the first place… the frustrating situation was still there and now in addition there’s a damaged cart or shed, but have the farmer be compassionate, that despite his old age now, that he used to be as big as a linebacker back in his day and also struggled with being a big fella not knowing his own strength… relate to Croc without showing fear about his imposing size
Show the two of them trying to repair the damaged item together with the farmer explaining that even if they fail to fix it all the way, they can still use the pieces to make something new; to give the parts a new purpose and that they won’t just be thrown away just because they appear broken; a bit of a heavy-handed way to give Croc a sense that just because people feel that ~he’s~ broken/damaged, that he’s still capable of becoming something new
Show him beginning to behave as a balanced version of human and croc; becoming a steady farm hand that is treated almost like a son but also wading in the pond/small lake like a croc during his off time while the text explains that he’d never felt so at ease before; that he’d never felt this… relaxed… calm… never felt that he wasn’t being looked at like he was a beast or someone’s enforcer… that he’d never felt so comfortable in his own skin before… then as they call him in for dinner by his human name show a single, tiny tear in the corner of his eye
Show a neighboring farmer talking to the old couple and accusing Croc of killing one of their livestock (which he’ll overhear) but the old couple explaining that it couldn’t have been him because they were all in the house when the event was believed to have happened… followed soon after by Croc getting angered that yet again he’s being accused of being a beast even out here
The old couple hear his commotion and instead of accusing him of somehow killing the livestock after-all, ask him if he’s ok… a despairing/emotionally dejected Croc calms down some but still frustrated snaps out that no matter what happens he’s always the first one people think of when bad things happen and that now they’re being dragged into it as well. Foreshadow with one of the old couple assuring him that everything will be fine and that the whole thing will be cleared up in no time
Cut to the next morning with Croc approaching the carcass where the old couple are gathered with the neighbor who is again claiming that it had to be Croc that did it; to which one of the couple simply says “wrong tracks for that” pointing that there are faint tire tracks than large footprints and that it’s more likely that someone accidentally hit the animal on the dark country road, as well as pointing out that there are clearly coyote sized injuries that point to scavenging
The situation escalates when the neighbor produces a shotgun and declares that it doesn’t matter because the ~next time~ it would certainly be “that thing” that does it, then have the old man push down on the end of the barrel and declare that “his name is Waylon” before the neighbor raises the gun back up in defiance but accidentally fires it off killing the old man to the horror of the old man’s wife and the dismay of Croc, who lunges at the neighbor (BUT DOESN’T KILL HIM) primally screaming why he shot the old man, meanwhile the old man’s wife falls to the ground seemingly suffering a heart attack in her shock… Croc turns to her grabbing her arm and pleading what he can do to help but she’s unable to get words out as she clenches at her tightened chest
The neighbor runs to his truck and speeds off while Croc helplessly sees her die as she weakly utters “W-Way…lon”
*SHORTLY*
Croc is still sitting by the dead old couple by the carcass of the livestock he’s been accused of killing as the sheriff pulls up with deputies; guns drawn. Head hung low he remains motionless as he mourns their meaningless deaths all while internally blaming himself as he never deserved their kindness in the first place…
why did they have to treat him normal… why did they have to give him hope for something better, something more… they’d probably still be alive if they had just been afraid of him like everyone else…
Back at Arkham, Batman stands opposite him; staring with intense curiosity… “no resistance being brought into custody… no display of dominance… not even a growl or a roar… it’s like you’ve been broken”
Last panel is a left (or right) profile close-up of Croc with his head tilted downward with a flashback image in the background of the old farmer telling him that something broken can still be made into something new
In the very bottom corner is weakly whispered to himself “…something new…” which in the right hands could at least be an attempt at a future anti-hero run… prolly wouldn’t last long but I think it could last a good while
I think it would be a far more effective “sympathy story” for Croc than being duped into the same enforcer role that he’s routinely put into by jagoffs

I never liked Croc as a human/crocodile hybrid. I prefer him as a large muscular man with scales.
I also like Croc in suspenders as a reference to his time in a sideshow, but that’s just me.
I like his design in the Arkham games (especially Arkham Knight). Like he does not look like King Shark where its literally animal head on human body. Its somewhat crocodilian yet his head shape is still humanoid

ever since I was a small kid and first gotten into Batman, the first Lego videogame came out and I have loved the character of Killer Croc ever since. He is one of my top favourite of Batman's rogue's gallery and I felt so bad for him after watching this video. I know he had a very rough childhood, I even want to write a one-off story where Croc gets a happy ending...still thinking of ways for it to happen.
