  • Wagakki Band - Queen of the Night. I was left speechless so many times in this reaction. The mixture of the traditional instruments with modern are crazy good. The visuals throughout the video are just beautiful! I hope you enjoy!

Wagakki Band is simply the best. They have no equal anywhere in the world. Superstar talent. The best shows. Yuko is a goddess. What else can we say. I get my metal from LOVEBITES. I get everything else from WAGAKKI BAND. To be at a Wagakki Band concert, would be a life-changing experience.

Wagakki Band is based on a unit started by Yuko Suzuhana, who won the 2011 Shigin Concours National Tournament, with a koto and a shakuhachi player.
The style of lead vocal (Yuko Suzuhana) is said to be Shigin.
The unit name is "Hanafugetsu", and the members are Yuko Suzuhana (Shigin & Vo & Piano), Daisuke Kaminaga (Shakuhachi), Kiyoshi Ibukuro (Koto), and they are still active.
    ruclips.net/video/2FMIv2lBF_w/видео.html
Shigin is older, and it started in private schools and clan schools that trained samurai's children in the latter half of the Edo period(1603-1868), when they read Chinese poems with unique clauses. After that, it spread throughout the country as a culture in which samurai sing their poems.
Wagakki Band was formed in 2013 by vocalist Yuko Suzuhana, centered on "Hanafugetsu", with the aim of transmitting traditional performing arts to the world in a more pop form.
    I recommend these songs.

vocalist yuko not only sings fantastic. she also dances, plays piano on pro level and is the fantastic bandleader (after nine years all original eight members are onboard!). guitarist machiya is one of the rare of his extraordinary class, who is a teamplayer. most reactors begin with "homura" + "akatsuki no ito" from their 2015 tour, cause it´s fantastic. I would recommend their Kyoukasuigetsu + Tsukini sakebuyoru from their react tour 2019, because it´s equally good, a bit heavier and has a sword dance from yuko. thank you for reacting to this amazing musicians.

Personally, my favorite song of Wagakki Band and my most favorite song period is Sabaku No Komoriuta, with Nijiro Chouchou a close second. Sabaku is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The combination of modern and classical Japanese is genius, with Beni, Daisuke, Kiyoshi and Kurona perfectly matches the modern sounds of Machiya, Asa and Wasabi. Yuko is one of the finest singers on the planet, with a fantastic range and a versatility that is unparalleled anywhere.

I believe I said QotN was an unusual one to start with because most reactors start with “Homura + Akatsuki no Ito,” “Senbonzakura,” or their live cover of “Bring Me to Life” with Amy Lee. There’s no right or wrong, I was just surprised to see QotN on the poll.
This performance is haunting, elegant, and beautiful, but it’s kind of an exception to their normal in that it focuses on lovely Yuko rather than having all eight members be as front and center as possible. They have a lot of songs and a lot of different performances of most of them, though if you like Evanescence, you’ll love WGB’s live cover of “Bring Me to Life” with Amy Lee.

Yes, this is the band Amy Lee did a live version of "BringMe to life" with. I don't know why some would say this is a weird one to do a first listen to, but maybe because it's such a mellow piece. I think most start out with "Senbonzakura" or the live version of "Homura" + "Akatsuki no Ito" though the official MV for "Senbonzakura" tends to get blocked often. "Sun Wheel" is a great one with some heavier guitar, but really, anything you pick will leave you speechless.

Another late comment to get you a bit more input on wagakki. The "whistle" you hear is a shakuhachi and one of the hardest instrument to learn. I leave you for 1 year alone with that bambooflute in a room and after that you will not be able to get 2 clear notes out of that thing. The Nightwish version is a complete different instrument. Daisuke (the Shakuhachi player) is a master and teacher for that instrument and top 3 in the world.

It's not wrong to start with Queen of the night from their latest album "Tokyo Singing". Most start with Bring me to life or Homura and akatsuki no ito
You're right, Amy Lee joined them for the Premium Symphonic Night Vol.2 for the performance of Bring Me to Life. They also recorded a song together "Sakura rising" for their latest album "Tokyo singing"
Wa = Japanese, Gakki = Music instrument
WGB constantly puts together big shows, One of Japan's most popular bands at the moment. Everyone is professional on their instruments, All songs are good, no one is equal, Metal, rock, jazz, ballads, funny songs, sad songs, etc.
WGB is an 8 piece band:
Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals (Founder of WGB)
    Machiya - guitar, vocals (Arrangement)
Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (Three strings (guitar looks like))
Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japanese National Instrument)
    Asa - bass
Daisuke Kaminaga - Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute)
    Wasabi - drums
Kurona - wadaiko, Taiko (Traditional Drums)
    Can highly recommend:
    "Kagerou" React tour 2019
    "Hakushu Kassai" Daishinnenkai 2018
"Iroha Utha" Manatsu no Daishinnenkai 2020
Just let us know if you need a link, You will find most live video at "CC W" channel with English subtitles

This is not a strange song to start with; it is just that most people begin with Senbonzakura or Homura/Akatsuki No Ito. I used to say Wagakki Band put on musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts, but if I am to be totally honest, they have surpassed them in recent years.

I don't think there's a "weird" choice of song to start with when it comes to Wagakki Band. They have such diversity you won't find a single song that'll point you to one typical style of theirs. They have rock songs, metal songs, folky songs, proggy, jazzy & poppy ones, songs that have elements of hip hop in them, and ballads like this one. They've also done covers of vocaloid songs. Whatever song you start with, you're gonna find complete opposite styles and so much more that this band is capable of.
