    My favorite Twain quote is "An expert is someone from out of town."
    Thinking about that now, everyone on youtube is from out of town! Except, as an aside, the guy which does a lot of mandolin family of instruments videos, who I noted with some startlement, turned out to manage a music shop that's only two towns over.
    Anywho, it's nice to see an "out of towner" on here who actually knows what they're talking about, and obviously thinks critically when they don't.
    Keep up and good work!

    My buddy used to tap time with his pick on the body of his acoustic on both the upper horn and behind the bridge. He wore off the clear on the body.

    I’d love to see this as a series, as others have mentioned. It’s a nice change of pace that would help your audience to become more mindful when examining their new vintage acquisitions. Guitarchaeology and GSI would be cool names.
    What I appreciate about your videos is that in naming and showing the innards of a guitar, you demystify working on one’s own gear. 2013 me would have loved to see this kind of content.
    Glad to see more and more people discovering your channel.

    • @breilly66

      Dude seriously I thought this video was going to bomb. I nearly deleted it thinking I might bore people into a coma!
      Also...... my cam and editing software was deleting scenes and I had file corruption sweeping the source files. That's why it was delayed. I was waiting for another good cam.
      But yes, I love getting this far into it. And am frankly shocked at the response. Literally dropped it at 3am just in case it was a dog so the algorithm would have buried it by the time YT saw it go silent.
      Def wanna do some more of these. Do you think the flow was pretty decent? I was concerned about the lack of space for audio samples. And also the extensive length.
      As always, your input is on point. Maybe a once a month feature?

    • @ramsilva
      @ramsilva 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@breilly66 Once a month sounds about right. The little factoids and blurbs you add on screen are great too.
      The flow was great! Obviously, you’re going to be your own biggest critic so you might do some second-guessing here and there but once you get a few of this sort under your belt, you’ll iron out the kinks. All that to say, there wasn’t anything that stood out to me as out of place or jarring flow-wise.

    ES marking means “Enter Special”. Buyer made a special request for that guitar or it was made for a show. I have seen that on other Fender guitars as well

    The E.S. stands for 'entered special' and is a factory mark. Most Fenders built in 1966 have it

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  11 месяцев назад

      Insightful! Any idea on what the intention was there? What was "entered special" referencing?

    • @gishuk
      @gishuk 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@breilly66 I've read that in earlier years it was for special order guitars or for NAMM show type things, but as to why most 66 Fenders have it I have no clue! Maybe someone else will know as I'd love to find out too

    ES is “entered special”. Usually means it came back for a respray or possibly a different neck. You sure that blue paint wasn’t done at the factory?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  7 месяцев назад

      Right on. Yea the blue looked like krylon and was over the tins. Wish I still had that one around. Cleaned up well. Great rig.

    What was the best way to get to the original finish? I am restoring a 56 music master and im trying to get to the og finish

  • @briand7381
    @briand7381 5 месяцев назад +1

    I have a 65 Mustang, the paint on the original finish is super thick. Not thin like yours. Any thoughts?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  5 месяцев назад

      Well... they only shot them with one material. Fullerplast wouldn't find itself in shops till the early 70s models.
      Keep in mind "thick" is a subjective term and without a micrometer we won't know absolutely. But I wager this one's thinning fast as I'm cutting away what was above it.
      If your Mustang is "poly" thick... you may want to check your tins and thimble bases for overspray.

    • @briand7381
      @briand7381 5 месяцев назад +1

      The original is Daphne blue. There is a super thick fiesta red on top. I feel I will do damage if I chip it. And it will be 200 years old when I am done. The re-paint was done in late 70’s early 80’s.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  5 месяцев назад

      Is the Fiesta red separating from the original at all?

    • @briand7381
      @briand7381 5 месяцев назад

      It is in some areas, but really stuck down in others. I have a thread started on offsetguitars forums. I feel super hopeless. I have had this guitar red for over 20 years.. ugh. Would love original 1965 paint. :)

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  5 месяцев назад

      You may have luck with a plastic razor blade. Dense enough to get through the top but soft enough to leave some of the original
