Bertel Sensei, thank you for posting seminar clips to RUclips. Living in the US with small children, attending in person isn’t an option - yet with this video I still gain insights and inspiration, and so am grateful.
I am also a fan of your blog and just enjoyed the write-up on olliwaa.com. Like your host, I have wondered a book of yours might consist of.
Having practiced in the 80s and 90s, I vividly remember when the only karate you saw was what you witnessed personally. Now I get to observe this wonderful blend of Asai karate and your more recent Shotokan experiences - what a treat!!
    Oss!!

I learnt more in six months training with André than I did in four years at my previous dojo. Any chance you get to learn from him, take it if you can, it will be time well spent :)

Respect to a very important Sensei. Also to all karateka.
However please allow a couple of thoughts: 1) 2.50: hadaka jime is ineffectively applied as the head of tori is giving space to uke to escape the choke. Uke will not sit and be choked, trust me it's very uncomfortable, 2) karateka are rarely taught ukemi waza, hence they are most likely ending up in injury or hospital, I suggest they take judo lessons (the guys in the video were not that bad) and 3) kata is most important, however almost no modern karateka apply pure techniques in sport kumite, all this boing-boing ridicule, hands attacking tsuki with elbows going wide away from straight line, defense techniques never applied, not even tai sabaki, suggest to return to the roots of karate otherwise an average 9 months boxer will send a shodan karateka to hospital...It's not sport it's budo!
