Nice to see you reviewing this one, I bought a bottle of this after a whisky festival last year. Remember loving at the festival but when I bought it I didn't like it nearly as much and it's just sat on my shelf for the last year. Need to give it another shot!
Nice review! On a similar note, I tried a Dailuaine matured in a Vino Santo cask. And it was not good 😅 I’m glad I only bought a 25ml sample before committing. Cheers, Phil!
I've had all of one white wine-matured whisky, an 8 yo Tomatin from SMWS. A friend and I split a bottle because it was so strange - there was some of the chocolate and dryness that you described, but the dominant notes were... mushrooms and strawberry jam? I am experiencing (enjoying might be too simple and not entirely apt a term) the last dram as I watch this.
Find Dailuaine quite confusing with their different makes... but I've enjoyed the naked ones I've had with their oily-industrial quality. Btw re Macallan - when do the lighter vintages start? The Signatory bottlings up to 2009 are all very beefy.
I do wish they had a house bottle just aged in bourbon. Much easier. Those 2009 Sig bottlings were heavy! No idea whn the lighter ones would start. Possibly new distillery style could be much lighter.
Something different for a Dailuaine! I'm more a fan of sherried whiskies, The Red Cask Co did a couple of 9yr old Dailuaines recently, a PX and an Oloroso, both were really good I thought. Auction is probably the only option for these now, I got some for around £50; well worth it.

Yeah, it does need a bit of time. But once you have a few glasses over a few nights, it does walk into its own a lot.

Yeah, the experimental stuff isn't always good. But we live and learn

Thank you for sharing that last dram, metaphorically, of course. I've never experienced that combination of flavours on anything before. What a find!

Auctions are finally a buyers' market!
