@DGR If you select the specific power up option, you can actually acquire the different character's in-game power ups, like different throwing weapon for Castlevania characters or different boss power for Megaman. The control also reflect their games of origin. It is really worth going more in depth with this game, I hope you make multiple episode of it.

Have never seen this game before. Looks awesome! Seems very replayable too, with all the character options and the ability to play levels from different games.
Ahahahaha yeah I tried it a bit but I gave up because I was using mega man a lot and it seemed really hard so I rage-quitted. Then I played the original levels on an emulator and realised maybe Mario wasn’t my thing.
The Megaman Music is (I think) the Museum level in Megaman And Bass. I couldn't hear it that well, but again, that's what I think it is. And as for the weird things you saw at the part where you're playing as Bill, I think the enemies are from a special Japanese version of Super Mario Bros based on a radio or tv show. Forget what it's called, but that's what I guess.
So nostalgic. I played this game growing up at my grandparents house and it just brings back such pure memories. I'm pretty sure this was how I played Super Mario Bros for the first time. Can't remember if it was this or the demo in brawl lol. But yeah super nostalgic and I wish this game was easily accessible.
This is such a great idea I don't understand how no one remastered and expanded it. It's crazy to think it's a relic from the Flash days! Great video, DGR!
The Etecoon being rescued by Samus is a great detail. Love those bouncy space monkeys. Rokko-chan being a playable alt for Megaman also makes me smile because those are genuinely some of the best fanmade Megaman games I've played. Sad that flash was killed off and we need ungodly necromancy to play classics like this again.
This is SO COOOOL!!! Speaking as a nostalgic 40yo who grew up playing these games on an actual 8-bit NES, this brings back a lot of memories from childhood
This game is CRAZY!!! Can’t believe how many different types of characters and game styles you could play as!! You taught me something new today, Dave!! I love it!!!❤️
tip: each character can do different things, such as link can drop bombs, and megaan other weapons, and if memory serves, in the past different variations of the characters could have different powers too. I wouuld highly suggest you go over the tutorial
A far as I am aware, exploding rabbit guy has been working on something else. Unsure if that still is the case do. But nice to see this again do. Love it.
@DGRDave There are apps that you can map your controllers buttons as keys on a keyboard. Such as mapping the D-Pad as WASD or A&B as Z&X. I highly recommend it. Hopefully he sees this The app I personally use is “reWASD”
I gotta say the "most ambitious crossover" in the title does tickle me a little in the wrong way, knowing there is other fan projects like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion or Super Mario Fusion Revival, which were so massively ambitious and complicated that they never got completed in the end. Regardless, the unfinished version of MKF was still a lot of fun, so maybe you would like to check it out.
MKF is actually still in development after all this time, for what it's worth. Definitely still worth checking out, even now. We did drop SMF:R a long time ago though, unfortunately. *That* project started to get a little overambitious at the end of its lifecycle, and by that point, we were all burnt out on it.
Used to play this a lot. Dave, I get that you wanted to show off each character, but you aren't truly showing them off until you start collecting their sub-weapons. Most characters have sub-weapons that only show up after you collect a fire flower. So, constantly switching characters like that REALLY hurts. Especially when some characters' basic attacks take multiple hits to kill an enemy.
There is still a lot things you never saw with the characters you picked. I think there is another button like a 'special' button you were unaware of. The top left near the character portrait for some characters would show certain items after getting power ups. Link got bombs, Ryu had his special weapon currency, Sophia got the Hover meter, Simon had hearts for special weapons, and other things like Bass being able to shoot multi-directional. Would love to see more.
Dave, couple things! 1. JoytoKey is a free utility that allows you to set up pretty much any Windows compatible controller to mimic keyboard input, which makes this game totally controller compatible. 2. If you want this game to run best, there's a standalone version of it available on the Exploding Rabbit forums. No webpage around it, no browser container taking up resources. 3. Play Haggle Man at least once.
Fun fact - If you use Steam and set up custom controller controls you can play any game with a controller. To do it you set up the game as a non steam game, open big picture mode, and enable the custom controller support (There are tutorials if you look them up)
I absolutely love the content that you are making! Though, you should try joy2key. You can bind controller buttons to the keyboard keys and it works really well. 😁
Try the freeware program JoyToKey. It helped me years ago to play this game. I did a video on this game doing so which sadly doesn't exist anymore (mean old YT took my old channel and lunch money) so it should work still. My old tutorial video for how to do this, is up on my current channel, but it's super easy to figure out. Helped me to play Sonic Mania when it was first on Steam also. Hope that helps! Great video as always
2 things: 1.) There's an option for tutorial pop ups. Those tell you the controls and the abilities of a character you play as. 2.) Maybe you could stream and make videos of these Nes games you havent played or beat, like Contra without Konami Code, Castlevania, and Blaster Master.
Thankyou for saying Bass's name correctly. As you had said the name, it's said like "Base" which is how you say Bass when you are talking about the instrument Bass. Reason that's said that way is because the Megaman games have music references in the names of it's characters, especially in the Japanese version as some names of characters lost it's music references of them. Such as Megaman being called Rockman in Japan, Protoman being named Blues in Japan, and in both English version and Japanese version, Roll is the name of a character. Hence Rockman. While it's still a reference in the English version, in Japan, Bass is known as Forte in Japan. And his equivalent to Megaman's Rush is known as Treble, while I hear that in Japan Treble is known as Gospel. While in the Battle Network franchise, the Battle Network timeline's version of Treble has it's English and Japanese names swapped
8:30 "I’m not actually sure what the powerup did for us." In the first Legend of Zelda, you could find two rings: one blue and one red. When you grabbed them, Link’s colour would change to the colour of the ring. The blue ring would decrease the damage you took by a half while the red ring would decrease it to a fourth. I’m assuming the powerup was trying to emulate this by allowing you to take two hits instead of one before dying, much like the mushroom in Mario’s games.
Simon Belmont's physics/animation reminded me of Link from Zelda 2. Link's physics/animation looked like Megaman. And Samus's physics/animation reminded me of Ninja Turtles.
