Pierrepoint was too methodical and exactingly ethical with his la-di-da 'long drop' hanging protocol. This grew tedious in the stressed and vengeful atmosphere of 1945-47, so the judicial authorities drafted in an approved American cowboy named Riley or something, who let them dangle.
Don’t you think justice was more important than revenge. Would you have had her torn apart by her own dogs? Woods was an imbecile. Pierrepoint was a professional who took pride in his work.
Woods stated that he was an experienced hangman, which turned out to be a lie. He never executed anyone before these executions. Pierrepoint however had ample experience. He did the executions providing dignity and a quick death.
Not beautiful, but good-looking. That picture is one of her after capture. I'm assuming she was probably scared, got little sleep, and went through interrogation . I think she was evil bit. If you look for enough pictures, you'd see a few where she was attractive. I wouldn't say beautiful. At least not by today's standards. Maybe in Europe in the 40s, she may have been considered but not by me!
I'm curious, what does David Irvine say about Irma? There's a book, " The Nazis Knew My Name", by a former prisoner who was one of Irma's pets. I met a former prisoner who'd been camp interpreter in Auschwitz. She said Irma had been very kind to her when she fell ill. She also emphasised how beautiful she was, " like an angel". All Irma's contemporaries praise her looks. Personally, I can't see it. Compared to the plug-uglies she worked with, yes, attractive, but judging by photos, very ordinary. Maybe she just wasn't photogenic.
Even her dad didn't want anything to do with her...she's a horrible woman, don't let her so called beauty fool you...Even a gaurd in charge had to tell her to quit using her whip, that should tell you something about her...
I suspect so. They wanted revenge and got it. She was pretty much a failure at everything except being a concentration guard. She probably did deserve the death penalty. I often wonder if these people had a clue what would happen to them when Germany inevitably lost the war. I always wonder what they were thinking was going to be their future.
She was not evil she was just another victim defending her people from what they believed to be Total evil and to destroy evil it takes another kind of evil. You would have done the same thing if ordered. You really think you would have been nice.No you would have followed orders and that was the order of the day.She did her best to impress. If you are offended then you must not believe what they believed. You are just judging other people's beliefs.Stop judging others and you will be enlightened read a book and you will learn things that increase your knowledge about other ways of thinking.
What about the poor prisoners, the people, including little children who died, the ones who starved to death and just dropped dead "like leaves falling off a tree"? If you don't want to hear about "this poor woman," you can stop watching.
My grandmother was an Aufseherin. She was freund of Irma Grese and said she was very nice farm girl who has been badly misrepresented. She trained with Irma Grese and other girls at Ravensbrück and they served together at Auschwitz-Birkenau before Irma went to Belsen. Oma was clever and fled the kamp before the end and blended with refugees and taking another name, so she survived. So very lucky, ja. Lived to be age 92. You must remember many of the SS Aufseherinnen were naive working class girls who thought they were doing their duty and it wast difficult task indeed. So, they should not be so harshly maligned. As for the pieces, there was not enough food to give them and had to be euthanized to prevent hardship. Some of them were unruly and that's when cane or whip had to be employed to maintain order, unfortunately, so it is not as evil as they say. Anyway, these were horrible times, and it is regrettable it all happened. If born in different time and place they would have had ordinary lives.
