When I was a teenager, I was always a fan of "stutter edits" and had wondered what they looked like visually. In the summer of '86, my prayers were answered when "Paranoimia" (f/Max Headroom) hit the streets. I was instantly hooked on Max and The Noise. I then started going through their back catalogue, purchasing "Into Battle" and "Who's Afraid" (which I still have) when another track grabbed my attention: "Close (To The Edit)'. I was a teenage amateur editor (on cassette mind you) and seeing a song with 'Edit' in the title, completely blew me away. I lived in a small midwestern town and never heard of the Art of Noise before. I'm still a fan to this day.

Paranoimia one of my favourite Art of Noise tracks, cant wait to hear the remastered version. Would love to hear some new material in the same style as the 1984-1986 releases :)

It's great to see this clip, a nice insight to these two gents at work. I've been lucky enough to meet both and the humour was the same, lots of banter and always seem to enjoy the business which is rare.
I can't wait to hear the remastered edition and the bonus material from the archives , and excited to hear they're doing the same with other China releases soon.

This for me is Art of Noise, not the poetry spouting stuff from Paul Morley, the mainstream rap of 1999's Metaforce or the endless drum and bass remixes. Somewhere between that and the 'novelty band' bit (which I also loved), it was the albums from 1986-1989 that was the REAL Art of Noise for me. And JJ is the heart of that. Without him, with Anne alone, with too much Paul, it's just not the same. So pleased he's still a dude.

100%. AON without JJ & Langan is like curry without the rice. A dog without a bone. A hooker without a trick. You get the idea ;-)
When JJ and Gary left, the act just wasn't the same. Gone was the quirky samples and obscure surrealist use of them, and all that was left was Anne's melodies, which ARE nice and I'm a fan of, but it was never the AON for me from then on.
The Seduction Of Claude Debussy, even though it had some lovely melodies and those beautiful links spoken by Sir John Hurt (RIP), the album as a whole just seemed 'up its own arse' for the arty farty b*llocks yuppy types over at wine bars with their Managing Directors drinking Gin & Tonic or warm apple piss tea.
I would LOVE it if the original members got back together for ONE ALBUM & recreate the magic together with JJ's & Langan's samples and full elements to it. PLEASSSSSEEEE!!!!!

While Paranoimia was really what hooked me, 'Seduction' is my favorite AON album over all. Honestly, it's the early 'Into Battle' experimental noodling that I listen to the least.

@@arothmanmusic - Beatbox and Moments In Love are absolute all time classics IMO from 83-84. I also love some of their later stuff like Legs and Paranoimia.

@@arothmanmusic i feel the complete opposite. 1983-1986 is what the real AON was all about.

I miss The Art Of Noise. This album reminds me of a time just as I was about to leave my home town to venture to London to start drama school way back in '87. I never wanted to be a fuddy duddy older person & I promised I'd NEVER say this but......the music back then was way better than the crap now!! There....I've said it. DAMN YOU LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOONS!!!

    B) there is an wonderful and sad synchronicity at work here on "Something Always Happens", it's a bit of a trainspotter/geek footnote but one of the astronauts on Challenger was working with Jean-Michelle Jarre:
"The last track on the album was originally scheduled to include a saxophone part recorded by astronaut Ron McNair on the Space Shuttle Challenger, making it the first piece of music to be recorded in space, but on 28 January 1986, 73 seconds after lift-off, the shuttle disintegrated and the entire Challenger crew were killed. The track was dedicated to McNair and the other astronauts on board Challenger."

So could this edition be described as remixed or merely remastered? Did they go back to the original multitracks or just re-EQ the stereo masters?

I bought the JJ Jeczalik sample CD back in the 90's and I think I paid something like $99 U.S. for it and recently went to use it and it has CD Rot... :(

    • @NeilVanceNeilVance
      @NeilVanceNeilVance 7 лет назад

Man I bought it also back then ... I thought it was poor value for money, I thought it would give me some slight leaks into the classic AON raw samples, but I found it rather useless. I sold mine on ebay 5 years ago. I thought CD rot was more apparent on CDR's etc, not actual proper releases? ... I ripped my CD to HD before I sold it but honestly, for me there is no content for me to use.

Art of Noise, you've created some amazing tracks back in days, this one I'm about to mention is my favorite, but its only 02:26 minutes, the title "Something always happens",i would've love to hear another 4 minutes added using the same Synths from the 80s, today's electronic instruments just don't have same warm quality sound, amazing how folks could afford the Fairlight CMI.

The best album ever that got me into synthesisers and music college, made by total legends, my dream is to own a Fairlight but it's a bit out of my price range.

I know this is a promo tool but seriously and genuinely I'am so pleased to see JJ and Gary together here today! ... Anne would have been the iceing, but I guess JJ and Gary better pull something from that Garbage Bin again and call that same number! xx. ps. IVS was the album I mostly enjoyed listening to in a sunbed with the headphones on. Such a great time! (edit) Will we ever see JJ, Gary, Trevor and Anne together in the same room sometime soon?
