Australia’s rain relief - Who gets wet weather & who misses out

- A cold front is crossing the southern half of Australia with rain and showers stretching from the Southern Ocean into NT and QLD even. But the bulk of the rain will be in the southern half of WA, SA, VIC, NSW and TAS.
*CORRECTION: Please note that the date in the last rain map should read May 30, NOT May 23... the map is up to date, the onscreen label is not! Apologies for the confusion.
An east coast low should form this weekend and stick to the south-eastern corner of Aussie next week - potentially bringing rain relief into TAS and VIC in particular. TAS your rain isn’t yet locked in but the potential for over 80mm is there in some locations in the east if that low drifts down. It’s a similar story in eastern VIC.
We cover Australia’s weather for the next 7 days including a 7 day rainfall map to make sense of it al.

- Our NZ ClimateWatch video is out on Friday May 31, taking a closer look at the bigger picture of air pressure around Australia too (even though it’s primarily a NZ based video).
- Due to King’s Birthday Weekend we have no Australia video on Monday. If we can we’ll do another video on Tuesday, otherwise our next update will be one week from today.
I don’t normally like the rainy weather but man, it’s so dry here in Hobart, we could use a soaking! 20 degrees here on May 30th is unheard of!

I notice you use a different map for Australian forecasts. The one you use for New Zealand has Australia lattitude adjusted : that is Sydney and Geraldton are on the same line. :)
Hi there, we don't adjust anything other than the central view. With the globe being...well...a globe...it means some places get stretched a bit funny. We never manipulate maps - all we do is focus on the weather, which sometimes surprises people about where they lie on earth.
Been camping in the Vic mountains and High Country the last few days just before the snow sets in for winter. The water tanks are empty, the springs out the side of the mountains that are usually reliable year round are dry, the farming land is dry, the rivers and creeks are running low. Definitely need the rain in North East Vic, good to see it's on the way!
You also managed to fly pretty much directly over my place in the Melbourne flyover, I can see the lights of my street and the footy field 250m away from me. Benefit of being right next to the flight path in and out of Tullamarine

Hi Phil, about 10 days ago you showed us the big picture weather map of what was coming for Australia. You said RAIN for a very parched Adelaide, and the rest of SA, by Thursday 30th May. You were absolutely spot on, it's raining well today! 🎉

Great work Phil. Cruise a bit east of Melbourne, in your 737 and take a look at the airforce base at Sale Victoria. Watch out for the odd Pilatus PC-21 trainer that seem to love doing G force conditioning/stall recovery above our place in Bairnsdale.
Is Sale said like the word "sale"? I've flown over it several times (usually Sydney to Hobart). Always curious if it's "sale" (as in "sail").

Hopefully, your flight sim has omitted the Max versions of the 737, otherwise you wouldn’t have much time sight seeing ….. rather, trying to stop the nose pointing straight at the ground🛩️
