    Ringo didn't just lose one band mate though, he lost two, both John Lennon and George Harrison.

    Of course the break up was fluid, but what the tape shows (which isn't new btw- Harrison mentioned it in an interview around 69-70) was that the Beatles were winding down; they WERE coming to an end. None of them were willing to face it yet. The Beatles were clearly involved in an artistic and business power struggles which weren''t going to go away. Here are some rambling thoughts on the topic. As to who wanted out the most- I think John came the closest to wanting out the most at that time precisely because his Cold Turkey single was rejected by Paul (which reinforces his- I'm too restricted in the Beatles argument). Add to that his appearance at the Toronto festival ( I enjoy playing with other people and focussing on Yoko) and he's ready to to bail, yet he still hedged his bets by staying silent. Harrison is resolved to benefit from the gain of the Band, while also clearly being annoyed by the dynamics of the band and unwilling to submerge himself in the way he used to. Pauls miffed that his temporary leadership of the band was at an end and pretty frightened by the possible end of the band, yet determined to not back down on what he wants. His attitude about his solo album's release date. was stupid. His solo album SHOULD have been pushed back. The other three are determined not to be managed by Paul's brother in law, which brings in Klien, and means Paul leaves off running Apple and George is the only one of the other three to exercise any artisitc/management control at Apple. My take is that it was George who pushed for Paul's album to be pushed back and for Spector to be given a free hand on Let it Be. Two decisions which antagonized Paul. Ringo, John and George all had to be fed up with McCartney's disastrous ideas; the MMT TV Show, Apple, and the Get Back album. So now they were clearly trying to clean up his messes. This opened the door for Klein, who Paul was bitterly opposed to. McCartney's announcement was a way to try and assert control again. Paul needed the band more than the others, but he also had an enormous ego that he felt was being submerged. He'd tried to back off, tried to be less bossy and more accomodating, but he couldn't stick to it. I think George was far more willing to stick around in 1969-70 then the other two (Ringo was always in), but I think his motivation was more focussed on what a disatxorour time business wise it would be to break up. He certainly wasn't going to play back seat like he used to do. So I think George, Paull and John were quite willing to let it end. What would have been better would have been if they had all just owned to the fact that they were done and looked for a way to go out in a way they all agreed to and if that meant doing one last album, then do that, and if not, not. But these were guys in their late 20s so they were petty and bitter and communicated poorly. And John and Paul had insanely huge egos by this time, the new wives didn't help. Meanwhile, Georges hubris was fairly healthy as well. A year off and then a healthy discussion btwn the four about how to go out would have been wise, but Paul couldn't let it be (sorry) with Klien and John was ready to quit publicly at any moment. What is true is that Abbey Road was their last collective partnership musically and a great one to end it with. Let it Be was a nice a coda. .

      I did. The crazy expensive ones I think included a signed lithograph or something. There were "cheaper" seats (under $100), but I don't know if there were many of those available.
      Yeah, "What's My Name" does have a country-rock vibe to it. Not a bad thing - it fits his style!

    I believe God himself did not permit any additional Beatle work following Abbey Road. How could they possibly top, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”? What a way to end a journey. A perfect ending to a perfect band. America needs The Beatles again. They were all about innocent love. Innocent love of self, others, and community. Now that would truly, “Make America Great Again”. Peace and love!

    What do you all think of the false paul story/death of the real paul in 66? True or false?

    • @gregbenedetto6316
      @gregbenedetto6316 4 года назад

      I lived through that. It was totally bogus. The "clues" were at best, circumstantial and some weren't even there. More like what conspiracy theory fans wanted to see and hear rather than the truth. It also gave some opportunists their fifteen minutes of fame promoting their own ideas and never really panning out. Paul McCartney is most definitely alive and doing quite well.

    Interesting. Think John was a loose canon in 1969. Clearly he broke up the band and imagine he had regrets. Stones played the game much smarter. Egos.

      I think there was too much individual talent in The Fabs for it to be contained any longer (think of George's remark of making 'All Things Must Pass' being like the relief one feels after going to the bathroom). No other band that I can think of has had that kind of talent within each person in the band - including The Stones and The Who (both of which I like a great deal - actually, I love The Stones' Sixties 'A' sides).
      Another couple of considerations are that John was taking heroin around this period, and was also in the throes of feeling what working with someone else (Yoko, and then Clapton, Spector and so on) could feel like (he commented on how liberating it felt to hear people other than Paul, George and Ringo backing him).
      So, for those reasons, and several others, I think that The Beatles had to end when they did. I think it is also notable that music full of (mostly) hope and inspiration was naturally fostered in the 60s, and I wonder if it could have survived in the dismal 70s, with the Oil Crisis and terrorism setting much of the cultural stage.

      @@drutgat2 yes and no.. Plenty of other talented bands took a pause for solo careers. Then you get together again. John made a bad decision to get into full blown divorce. All in the history books now. Long time ago.

      The Stones made more money than the Beatles by swallowing their egos, the Beatles totally fucked up because of their egos, of course without those egos they wouldn't still be the Best Band in history. If the Stones had disolved in 1970 they would be remembered as a good band that's all
