- This is a tribute video to my friend's BARN FIND 1986 Chevrolet K30. This squarebody truck is a 21k mile, 99% ORIGINAL SURVIVOR!
The truck is equipped from the factory with a Dana 60 front axle and a full floating 14 bolt rear axle both sporting 4.56 gears. The rear axle also carries the G80 locker. The engine is the LT9 5.7L 350 V8 mated to a granny low SM 465 4 speed manual transmission. Behind the transmission is the gear driven NP205 transfer case.
It is a fleetside longbed, optioned to a single rear wheel 1 ton. The truck also carries the Silverado trim package with factory air conditioning, intermittent windshield wipers, sliding rear window and two tone paint. This truck is also optioned with dual fuel tanks, skid plates, AM/FM cassette radio and tinted glass.

that is the pinnacle of pickups. the best ever made. should be proud of that it will outlast any of the new stuff. awesome
gentile joshsaved H it’s not really the pinnacle of pickups, it still has that emissions crap on the motor, and the exhaust sounds terrible, in fact it has no sound which is stupid if you ask me
@@evanjobe4249 good thing no one asked you.
gentile joshsaved my dad had a truck like this
Indeed!
This was the first Chevy pickup that rusted badly. No, it won't outlast the new stuff.
This truck is so pure wish it was mine.
beautiful truck! have to grease those universal joints every oil change
Your friend found a really nice barn find. I hope he still has it & kept the truck looking as sharp as it is in this video. Stay safe.
I had one of these 86 K30s but with the 454. It was a slow machine but a powerhouse.
100% southern 80s Americana. Also perfect example of the type of truck us young teenage boys got from our dads and grandpas in the 90s when it was our turn for the “hand-me-down” first truck.
Lucky lucky!
the best thing I have ever seen on RUclips. my dream truck.
+Squarebody Rescue Thank you for watching!!
Tell me about it lol, I think I just came in my pants
I recognize that winch setup. That would be for backing up to a round bail of hay with a fork that is mounted at the end of the bed with the tailgate off. The winch pulls the fork up, which pulls the round bail off the ground. Then you deliver the round bail to the destination and drop the fork down again.
A 350ci V8 with a 4 speed tranny and granny gear?? Hang onto that baby...you can't even buy trucks with a manual transmission any more much less with a V8. That is a sweet truck.
Yes it's a keeper. Trucks were trucks back then.
New Toyota Tacoma come with a optional manual tranny
@@DieselDog1982 my F350 powerstroke is a 6 speed manual transmission too it has a creeper gear and 5 high gears
Wish I still had mine, Mother Nature took her back
@@junkyarddog9129 That really isn't a truck!
4.56 gears with a 4 speed? ouch. probably the first truck that would truly benefit from larger tires.
WOW!!!! Looking at that original surviving square body work horse is better than having sex! Nice find!
I might have to disagree with that one lol
I wouldn’t go that far. Take this advice:
There will always be old trucks, but not always someone willing to fuck.
That winch is used for a round bale hay fork, too haul hay to cows. Farm truck nice and clean!!
It was common for people to have a winch setup like that for pulling things onto a trailer that was towed. As the roller was right there in the center in front of the tailgate, it was to pull straight only, not for winching things out of a ditch, etc. Most likely a car trailer, tractor puller, or as someone else mentioned, to pull a boat onto a trailer, but what a huge boat it would have to be, plus, most boat trailers have their own winch setup. The 4.56 gears were common to those older trucks so that they could pull hills and heavier loads with only a 4 speed. Back when trucks had 6 cylinders and 283's, 5.56 gearing was common.
would have gotten a thumbs up if you'd left the soundtrack out.
Its awful
G80 wow factory Easton locker 1 ton that's a hell of a truck
excelente camioneta, un gran tesoro que encontraron, verdaderamente es una sobreviviente. especial para seguir conservandola original. saludos.
Milcrate82, celso guajardo villarreal Saids That: Excellent truck, a great treasure they found, is truly a survivor. Special to keep conserving it original. Greetings.
+celso guajardo villarreal Gracias amigo!
celso guajardo villarreal
Yo tengo una 1987 y está muy deteriorada
Pero espero arreglarla pronto
✌🏼
El Fantasma excelente, a restaurarla, ya que son muy buenas camionetas. Saludos.
sweet find that one, a keeper for sure !
+TheCanadianBubba Absolutely a keeper!
an absolutely fantastic truck ...........i had one and really miss it..............they are bulletproof
I can't even explain how jealous I am. .. I love heavy duty trucks and that is friggen mint! You take care of that and maintain it and it'll last the rest if your life. None of that excessive electronics and bull shit, just a well built solid ass truck.
MMGJ10 🍻
I'd love to find a truck like that. Best part was when I saw she is a manual. Perfect truck.
He
33-12.50 tire and the truck is done. A little taller tire would help on the highway with a 4.56 gear. Nice truck.
What a beauty! That's what a truck is supposed to be! Sad that today's trucks come with giant sunroofs, huge touch screens, heated seats and 22 inch rims and have seemingly lost sight of their intended purpose
What a beauty. Wish they still made them like that.
Back in early 1987 I ordered a Chevrolet K30 very similar to this truck. Mine was black with dark gray down the middle. Tilt steering and all the options. 4-speed manual transmission and the 454 big block. Bad ass truck. Only problem she would quit running while driving. Just quit. Wait a few minutes she'd restart and go. Quit again eventually. Chevrolet never figured it out. I traded it eventually. Big block and the 4-speed manual was a blast when she ran.
I will not rest until my squarebody looks like this again
That truck is perfect! I’d so love to find me one like that!
The winch and brackets at rear of truck are for a hay fork to haul round Bales of hay many of my chevy's have had same set up
for sale?
Had a '81 K30 Suburban, 454, 4 speed 4wd with granny gear, Silverado with front rear a/c and absolutely loved that rig.
I have only dreamed of finding a truck like this.
Nice, love that skyblue color, usually folks restore these and paint them some god awful lime green. also lucky that the interior didn't get ate up by mice!
Geez Dana 60 , 14 bolt 4.56's, 4 spd, 4bolt main! Everything you'd want if you built one!
Would trade a 2019 and 2020 silverado for this bad girl!!! She's a beauty😍
WOW! Flashback @ 1:14 notice the sticker.
Smith Chevrolet located at 1221 Broadway, SA, Texas was the oldest Chevy dealer in the state and #2 or 3 in the nation IIRC. They had a showroom just for truck called the Truck Mall..I bought my 85 and 86 there.
I worked at Smith from 79-81 and my best friend worked in the truck mall from 81-89. He was consistently one of the top truck sellers and sold many 4X4's to farms and ranches in the S. Texas area. Our boss was in charge of ordering all truck inventory.
Having a truck with the granny 4 speed in inventory was not unheard of but it would have been rare. However, they did a lot of special orders for farm and ranch customers.
Smith is gone and it's all condos now. They were family owned and one of the few decent dealerships in the city. None of the usual lie and hustle BS. Some salesmen tried and were caught were fired on the spot.
What no cup holders! Back in the day the cup holders were indentations in the glove box door when open. What a great truck! I remember them well!
Absolutely beautiful blue. Perfect options.
That looks like actor Kurt Russel's pickup that he just sold recently at auction...but Kurts has a 454 CID engine wereas this one is a 350CID ...very nice regardless
Wow, that is what my interior looked like at one time so long ago. Except for that clear cover on the seat. I have never seen that before. It reminds me of sofas from the 70s and 80s !
Beautiful truck, And to see one all original and not all lifted or what not and just to see it like it was off the showroom is just amazing!! Thanks for sharing
That son of a gun is gorgeous amazing it looks so good respect for the original owner for taking care of his stuff
Beautiful truck I'd leave it original I've got two of my own a 78 shortbed 350 SM465 NP 205 10 bolt front 12 bolt rear with 4.10 gears and 35s and an 86 M1009 military Blazer with a 6.2 diesel TH400 208 and 10 bolt front and rear with 3.08 gears and locker in rear .
That’s a great truck! Thanks for the video.
Beautiful! Coming from a Ford guy
This truck right here folks is a REAL truck I had a 1977 C-30 w/4spd,V8 and 4.56 gears that thing was a beast!
What a score !
If you were me I'd go all around the truck and pump the anti- rust waxy oil every where .
30 years is a long time for metal to go without a being restored so you'll have some rust growing where your unable to see it lurking . Good one man
wow, what an awesome looking truck!!!
Back when they took pride in what they were building.
I have an 86 and an 07 silverado the 07 is better in every way except the cool factor.
Gorgeous truck . It’s a shame stick shifts are not around anymore . I miss those days
That's country! what a gem you found!
That's a sweet truck!! I have a 82 Scottsdale that's original. I grew up in that era. I love these truck's!!
Veery nice truck, not many of them left like that, I wish GM would bring back the stick !!!
I haven't seen many restored ones in that kinda shape! What a beautiful truck
Beautiful truck, that's a keeper 👍
Manual transmission converted to Automatic at 3:13
What makes this truck even more nice is the manual transmission if it were like a 700r4 it would be just another nice oldie automatics are a dime a dozen
Nice I'm not a huge fan of the newer chevys but I like the 80s square bodys and the earlier ones.....
AGREED 1980s SQUAREBODIES ARE THE BEST ALONG WITH THE FIBERGLASS GMT400 CHEVY TRUCKS THE NEWER TRUCKS ARE TRASH.
Simplicity at its best, I got one c20 6.2L very old and not pretty but still running ok, few mechanical issues but runs ok.
I dont think I've wanted anything so much in my entire life
So that's what my 87 should have looked like, beautifully solid truck
Beautiful truck
The guy that bought this truck new, knew what he was doing. Only thing I would have done if it was me was to go with 3:73 or 4:10 gears. Obviously it was bought to be a farm truck, even though it doesn't look like it.
I love this truck. Just a perfect old heavy duty truck. I'm jelly
That’s one sexy pickup. I had a 77 Chevy 4x4 short bed, 4 speed manual in 84. That brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing.
Thats a awersome truck
with the fair-lead at the tail-gate, the winch would pull equipment onto a trailer (race-cars or tractors etc.)
Super nice truck! 350/sm465/np205 makes a great setup! Never seen those clear seat covers before. Winch in the back? Was it a repo truck?
+Farmboy's Garage We don't think it was used as a repo truck. The man my friend bought it from, he bought it from the original owner's estate. There was mention of the original owner using it for pulling boats. But that winch is WAY overkill for a boat that truck can pull. So really we don't know. Probably never will. We're going to try and adapt it to pull broke down choppers into the bed. WAY too much winch for that job too, but it's already there and it does work.
milkcrate82
Probably had a small or possibly fold down wrecker, maybe for parking garages.
K30, Hank Williams & Star Bucks.. I call that relaxing too
Love the lights on the tailgates of the 30
BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!what a find. I own a 82 chevy c30 crew cab dually.I have a buddy who has had alot diffrent chevys like this. Some nice some not but he ALWAYS DESTROYS them. He has my grandfathers 86 gmc c30 long wheel base wrecker he bought it from a guy that my grandmother sold it to quite few years ago. He got to it b4 i could Made me sick cuz i know how its gonna end up
The's were the trucks I grew up around. So cool you found one that nice. I would cherish it and pass it down to my son.
Winch is for pulling things up into bed or on a trailer. I do small engine repair. It is a must have for non running equipment. I could see using it for cars if it's heavy enough. Looks like it may be.
The winch was probably for pulling big hay rolls onto the trailer it was pulling, definitely a farming setup
I bought a 91 blazer last year with 71k miles on it for 1500 .almost same blue as this pickup. Super nice and paid less than what winch on front of it is worth. No longer stock though. Has 4 inch lift and crossover steering. Getting headers next ,then twin stick 205 t case and final add will be a vortec engine
OMG, what a beautiful truck. I wish my 82 looked half that good. I use it too much though.
Nice truck. 4-speed is a +
Beautiful Truck 😍
CRAZY NICE !
I had an 83 just like that, But with a warmed up 468. 6 inch lift, front LSD and 36.5's. It was a beast. Would pull a 10k trailer and not even now it was back there! It definitely needed dual tanks. She was a bit thirsty!
Brutal truck i should know i drive a mostly stock 87 Chevy Silverado v10 with a 5.7 liter v8. And love my square body your friend is very lucky to find the v30 very rare from what I seen and heard.
What a friggin beautiful truck I thought I did pretty good go finding an 2002 Silverado with a 5.3 5speed and about 62000 miles on it from the original owner. Oh and its a four wheel drive as well.
That truck is freaking gorgeous.
I have a zero rot 84 CUCV M1008 W 16K on the clock, shes sun burned to all hell inside but the same axles 4:56 no locker up front but detroit locked rear. She chirps 2nd gear sometimes on her own w the TH400 w the 6.2 diesel. top speed is 55 and 56 downhill. 37-40" rubber will be the regear
no rust and found in texas,I'm in texas too and i have a 1995 gmc Z71 single cab and its rust free and i used to go mudding big time but always came home and cleaned it for days.i would lift that truck and put at least some 38's on it.thats weird it has 4.56 gears,i have those and I'm running 35 inch mud tires,i want to go straight axle big time,i hate the IFS always messing up.nice truck man
Those arent rare at all typical truck in tx u can find those anywhere no one will be lookin at u in that
I’ve had three of that body style but none 4x4. Very nice find. Only problem with these was the gas tank on the outside of the frame. Just a safety thing but I guess not as bad as a 1970 with the gas tank behind the seat. Still best trucks ever built.
Damn It!! I Just Drooled All Over My Phone!! I Have Never Seen An Original Un-Cracked Box Chevy Truck Dash!!
the way trucks were meant to be built..
Cool truck, I've a 82 k10 all original. Even found the paperwork where mine was purchased new in glove box. All these trucks are cool as shit and scream old school to me.
BADDASS!! Great video, the only 86 Chevy I had was a c/10 2 wd 305 sbc
Wow you are one lucky man. Congratulations on that truck
What a clean old truck.
This is why I am re-doing all the sheet metal on the 86 K10 I bought new in 1986! Not a truck on the road that I would trade for it :--)
Wow ! With a manual transmission 👍! Love love love it ! This real truck was ment to do real work, thusly the 4 speed, 4.56's and winch in the bed. The person who set it up most likely drove a car when not dragging houses, trees, barns and anything else that needed to be moved down the road.
Please skip the music next time !
That's awesome congratulations on finding that I've got an 82 like that with a 6-2 diesel I bought in 03 with 21000 miles on it it's got 46,000 on it now It's not a good shape as that one but for as old as it is it's in perfect shape to me enjoy it and never let it go
Sweet just bought a pretty soild 84 Silverado truck with a few places.this truck got mine beat.
Sweet truck that thing will last you the rest your life long as you take care of it She’s a real beauty
What a great find. That's a keeper!!
Love the trim around the windshield. Ppl think they can LMC their way to this. No way. Cheap crap that rusts and has fitment issues.
nice looking truck!!!
I'm jealous for sure!
I got an 85 half ton, same blue color, going to do a ground up someday! got a lot of compliments in that truck!
Long live the square bodies!
🚗😎👍 They made that body style from 1973 through 1987.
