Just asking if anyone who might be a bit more informed as my MOS was Crypto tech in the Marines (Back when they had such things and didn't dissolve my MOS) I can't fathom that this mission is public domain...at least not yet?
@@mattz1230 Quite simply the military uses their own systems that are typically frequency hopping and then encrypted. It's been a minute since I have been working on this equipment or even in the military but the codes for these radios systems "were" updated no less than twice a day. In a mission like this, It is more likely that all involved with this mission contained a proprietary security key which allows only those involved to be able to transmit and receive each other. They are capable to go to civilian channels to talk to traffic controllers as well but wouldn't be on civilian traffic to perform a military mission. As this is the first time a Raptor has engaged a Air air to Air target with a AIM-9X missile, let alone any, I find it hard to believe that they were sharing that data with the general public...Hopefully I can get info from someone that understands military communication that could collaborate how someone was able to monitor and record what should have been at minimum a high level voice transmission.
@@repaid1 22 years in the Army. Familiar with comsec keys and loading. Again though- WHY would this be encrypted? What's the point? This is NOT the first time firing a Sidewinder-X, they have fired dozens at maneuverable drones. There was nothing classified here. There is no reason to use encrypted comms at a range that would give a intelligence device plenty of chance to scoop up the signal. In fact, it makes MORE sense NOT to use encryption. Everyone in the world conducts ground-controlled intercepts the same. We gave up nothing. But if we used encrypted comms, that balloon could- WOULD - intercept the signals. It WOULD relay those off-board to a satellite immediately. China couldn't listen in to us shooting down a balloon, but they would get our signals. And then, they'd have all the time they need to break them- and understand HOW we do encrypted comms. And THAT IS classified. So, I ask you to use your brain and come up with a legitimate reason to let china intercept our encryption and break it.
@@mattz1230 As I said encryption is updated at least 2 times a day, not the protocol of how it is encrypted (That isn't possible with the transmission). It would take the worlds fastest computers two days (+) to decipher the code of a single message Which is now 3 encrptions old and no longer used ever. That is randomly generated encoded, along with tracking and putting all the message together in the correct order as it jumped multiple frequency. I did go to Signal school at Ft. Gordon for my final crypto classes though. As for why it would be encrypted. I answered that somewhat. It was a military mission and was "Secret in intention" nobody knew of it till it was over. And as far as the Marines all our communications are encrypted even in training. The only time you would go to Guard/plain transmission is a emergency if your comms went down as a last ditch. As I said times may have changed as it has been 30 years since I served, But I was depot level repair for all Crypto at the time. I got out just as SINCGARS was coming in which I was trained for as well. Have a good one brother. Oh and we had already jammed the balloons transmissions days ago, so it could not transmit back home anyway
*SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT ....* 1) Intentionally waited for the Chinese to finish their mission. 2) Intentionally waited so the debris would fall into a highly damaging saltwater environment. 3) Intentionally waited to use an F22 which has a ridiculous maintenance ratio. 4) Intentionally chose the most expensive fighter to accomplish this simple mission. 5) Intentionally chose to use an expensive missile, rather than far more economical bullets. 6) Intentionally destroyed the very part of the balloon that is a treasure trove of intel, and scattered the debris in the ocean...rather than just pop the balloon and bring down the debris in a localized crash site ON LAND. *Does anyone NOT think Biden is owned by Tel Aviv, intentionally harming American security?*

It could have been taken out a week ago with a vanilla F15 using guns. Yes an F15 can fly higher than this ballon. Listening to the radio traffic you’d think it Bin-laden 2.0.
Maybe you (Dunning-Kruger) don't understand that the balloon was like 5 or maybe 8 thousand feet higher in altitude then the F-22 could go? Did you know that? Something ground-based might not be able to resolve a target at 65,000 feet up either ... are you well-versed in ground to air rockets and the like - or no?
Leave it to those who are actually intelligent , if yo can't see the obvious reason. We gained far more data by not doing so, or letting a 2 school bus size payload plummet 60,000 feet causing mass damage.

It was allowed by our government to stay up in the air, collecting all that data, which was delivered in real time back to China. Our government allowed it to fly over many different strategic military sites and did nothing until China was finished collecting our sensitive military and government data. Our own government allowed it to happen from Alaska, all across America and out to the Atlantic Ocean. It was deliberate by our own government to sell us out to China...AGAIN!

This intrigues me as I am at a loss on why this audio traffic isn't encrypted as per military traffic during a mission? Would be interested to know how you obtained audio on a guard channel? Just asking if anyone who might be a bit more informed as my MOS was Crypto tech in the Marines (Back when they had such things and didn't dissolve my MOS) I can't fathom that this mission is public domain...at least not yet?
Why would it be?
@@repaid1 It was not secret. It was announced prior to the shoot down.
I didn't realize shooting down a balloon was so complicated. Of course if I'm this F-22 pilot, I would just NOT brag when I get back to the squadron.
F22 pilot, base we have a splash one. This stealth shit really works we snuck up on it and it didn't try to evade us or shoot back.
*SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT ....*
1) Intentionally waited for the Chinese to finish their mission.

Why didn't they use the 20mm on the raptor instead of a $380,000.00 Aim9???
Would’ve been too messy people could’ve been hurt
Guns hit at over 2 mile vertical separation would be difficult and more like a shotgun. Surely the intelligence community will want to examine the sensors after they are recovered, and they don't react well to 20mm cannon rounds.
@@JohnShalamskas And they will be better off after getting hit by a sidewinder?? 🤣🤣 There isn't much excuse for spending a damn million dollars or more to shoot down a damn balloon! This was a dog and pony show!!
Those were my thoughts exactly hell they could have sent a helicopter up there with a door gunner and just mowed the balloon down
@@Noneyurbusiness That balloon was at 60-65 thousand feet up. No helicopter is going that high.
My opinion is that they were using the balloon to scan for underground facilities
The really sad part is that we had to use the worlds most advanced fighter aircraft to shoot down an all but stationary object. The army could have launch a ground based missile to take this thing out. I’m still trying to figure out why it wasn’t shot down in Montana. There’s like 11 people who live there. The Whitehouse claims the military was concerned about collateral damage. Damage? Of what? A cow?
I spent 22 years in the USAF flying AWACS and this was the dumbest thing we’ve ever done.
A few more balloons and this pilot will gain “Ace” statue
It’s too late. Ive seen all of the strategic McDonalds locations.
The US will soon launch a balloon defense initiative Project Dart. The dart program was conceived after a high-ranking official visited a local carnival where they were giving away prizes for popping balloons.
Great that you have this up - but I wonder why the audio keeps cutting out and what the source of the background noise is during the times it cuts out. What kind of receiver did you use to capture this?

BINGO !
1000 rounds of 20mm cannon has been tried on a balloon before, and it took days to finally deflate - hundreds of miles away.
This "balloon" was not at any pressure at that altitude because its inside pressure is at equilibrium with the atmosphere @ ~60,000 feet, and therefore it will not "POP" like a party balloon does here on the ground.
60,000 + FEET Scott. Poke holes in it…? 🤣
They didn't want it recovered because then it would be obvious that it was just a weather balloon.
