I bought HDO2s and was pretty underwhelmed. Then the Sky04X came out and I decided to give them a go.
The Skyzones are definitely better, but I do miss the wider IPD, better nose section (this part of the foam always wears out for me, but the HDO2s wouldn't) and ability to get the whole screen in focus.
In every other way the Skyzones kill the Fatsharks. A power button that works, actual firmware upgrades for goggles and module, better DVR, on screen display, rapidmix module, built in head tracker, USB-C, ability to use 18650s, USB-C and 3S+ for power (7.0V warning that can't be changed and rated for 2-3S/supplied with 18650 case, seriously WTF Fatshark?), more adjustment of display and fan, no stupid SD card placement, better colours, no 3D printing module covers that are nearly impossible to fit and remove (I ran a pro58 module with Achilles), I keep finding more advantages as time goes on...

    • @24kJames
      @24kJames 3 года назад +1

Yeah, I guess Nick didnt run into any of the multiple issues that exist in the 04X. I've had my 03Os for over a year, and picked up the 04X. In comparison to the 03Os, for me the 04X are awful. Bulkier, heavier, fit isn't as nice, the ipd and focus adjustments move out of position during any regular handling so every time you pull them down you have to make four different tweaks to get them back, and with 20/20 vision it just unnecessary extra hassle, the convex inner lense is more difficult to clean when they get dirty, and it's gonna wear over time so they imply a finite life where the 03Os have the neutral diopter for protection which easily wipes clean, and can be replaced easily and low cost, and I couldnt get a crisp view of the screen edges, they are so big I have to literally look my eyes nearly to their limit in different directions for each OSD element at the edge which means I'm looking completely away from the video feed that's opposite the OSD element, the auto scan is slow as molasses and I use auto scan to get me close, then click channel once or twice if needed, color doesn't look as good out of the box as the 03Os, but thay can likely be adjusted, the rolling and tearing issues with the receiver meant I couldn't fly over a third of my fleet with the 04x, they dont have the front pointing camera, took the rgb led away which I actually like to have on the 03O just for fun, and when I tried to use a third party receiver, a tbs fusion module, it was completely incompatible and wont fit even if you cut the goggle up because youd lose the scroll wheel on that side, and apparently no other 3rd party module except the rapifire fits in the bay (what is the point then?!) and the scroll wheel indexing "clicks" are not precisely synced with the menu selection indicator, and they are tiny, the fitment/alignment of the housing halves is pretty bad, much like the early 03Os... all this for friggin $500. I'll stop there. Honestly if you are coming from 03Os the 04X, even when they eventually fix some things, have very little to offer, and some of those items may be considered subjective and will not receive further attention. The 04X are so different from what the ads and the manual propose they are that they easily qualify for chargeback. The inexplicable module incompatibility alone qualifies them. I brought this and the screen tearing/rolling problem which made them flat unusable with some very popular cameras, to skyzone's attention right away and when I still hadn't received a reply after 8 days, I contacted the reseller who also reached out to skyzone, who finally replied a week after that (into the third week for reply!) by which time I was already over it, and requested the return shipping label. Truly do not sweat it. Imo, you still have the better of the two goggles. 03O's a tough goggle to top. Interesting you dont see much of these issues mentioned until you dig deeper, but no surprise. If you look at the feature spread, and the timing of each brand's goggle release, it smacks of collusion. Imo...anyway, enjoy flying in your top shelf 03Os. You ain't missing much, if anything at all, from the 04Xs.

@@24kJames your comment is like supr long so imma read it whole tomorrow but as an owner of sky04x I... 2 face plates to fit , yes thay a little bulkier but just little , who tf uses autoscan anyway , since the ipd is racheting it can't move with just handling , the focus adjustment is nice but moves a little when you clean the lense , fov is personal but I can comfortably see the whole display , the receiver has 2 modes , one is with image processing = the reciver makes the image not roll and combines the signal from bought antenas. If the camera and vtx are baaad and thay have off time pulses it can confuse the receiver module (rapid fire and fusion ect suffer the same btw) and you will get rolling and bad image , that's why there is a diversisity mode in the menu that makes the receiver act like old school receiver , so you wont have any problems with bad cameras

I did manage to use them on a few races, but my old Attitude V5's seem much more crisp despite the smaller FOV. I've fussed with the focal adjustment over and over and can't seem to get it right. Me too bro! And converting to digital DJI V2 goggles after the reviews hit! 😎🤘
These people that can't see the future of our hobby blow my mind talking about spending 400+ bucks on a new set of analog goggles when about 50% of the new products coming out now are digital FPV products! They're NUTS! craZy as hell! 😩
That's a damn good way to throw away 400+ bucks in probably 2 years, and have no resale for them either! Dumb, just plain dumb.... Especially when DJI's V2 goggles are $569 retail, so for $169, or way less when you're talking HDO2's with Rapidfire, hell, that's the same cost! No friggin way!

The difference is not in the resolution, but in the colors. The colors coming from the cameras are just fine (this, of course, is dependent on which camera you use). The OLED panels make the blacks more black, and the colors more vibrant, just a better flying experience :)

Color In my sky04x vs dji is definitely noticeable. Sky04x no doubt has better color, and dji is flatter (believe me, it is better..) But ofcourse, it's "analog". I dont have a problem with analog.. Both systems are flyable IMO.

Being in the hobby for 4 years, IMO buying ANY analog goggles even close to $400 bucks is a very short term purchase and a huge waste of money! With the future of the hobby being digital, spending a lot of money on analog is a huge mistake. Analog will die in probably 2-3 years... and when I say die, I mean it will be absolutely gone! 😳
I was in the electronics industry for well over 30 years, so here's what happens... Digital will be coming out with new products, more companies come out with their version of digital FPV, and sales continue to grow at a fast pace. What gets left behind and doesn't grow, but loses sales? Analog! So, manufacturers see slower and slower sales of analog so they stop producing as much, and then discontinue the slowest selling SKU's, and eventually stop making them altogether. IT HAPPENS TO EVERYTHING SO DON'T THINK IT WON'T HAPPEN TO ANALOG FPV!!!
Ask yourself this: How many analog cell phones are there still in use? Haahaa, those have been completely gone for well over two decades! How many people are still using CD's? Almost gone too! How about CRT TV's? The deep ones with the picture tube? Zip! Might be still in use, but how long has it been since the manufacturers stopped making them? Ages! Standard definition DVD's are almost gone too! How about small non-solid state hard drives (boot drives)? Camcorders nearly gone themselves, but ones using a medium, like a tape, CD, etc? Gone! Heck, compact cameras are gone! Just DSLR's are still here and believe me, not doing well! We've heard rumors Nikon could go out of business! Bulb using flashlights? incandescent light bulbs?
How about for our hobby... The F3 chip based flight controllers!
Flight controllers with Cleanflight. (many of you might not know what that is!) This is a good example of a product from our FPV hobby that was the software on flight controllers when I started 4 years ago this month. It's been gone for about 3 years! Betaflight came out, and it died very quickly! Sure, I think it's still here, but not really because almost no one uses it!
Analog will die too, not quite as quick as Cleanflight, but close! Digital will dominate our new products, look now ... it practically is already, with close to 50% of new products coming out made for Digital FPV. I think it might be even more than 50% already... if not, it's damn close. What happens when 100% of new products being released are Digital FPV products?....?....?
    ANALOG IS DEAD! 😱
So, we're half way there! And you're even considering buying a new set of analog goggles costing over $400 hundred bucks???!!!
    YOU'RE NUTS! 🤪🥴🤯
If you think you have to buy analog goggles now, buy a good cheap pair of box goggles to use short term, but don't throw away $400+ on expensive analog goggles with analog 50% gone already!
Just trying to $ave you from spending $400 bucks on something that will be worthless in probably 2 years! But, go ahead and waste your money, I don't giving a flying dUCK! LOL 🦆🤣🙄

All stuff is brand new and never flown. When I plugged fpv to the power, it only supplied power to fpv units (no esc or motor) and "the line" still ther. I began to think that it is somehow connected to NTSC/PAL mode conversion, but I can only try to choose either PAL or NTSC on cam's menu (goggles and VTX have automatic switch for this). I mean, I can live with it. It is barely visible and transparent enough not to notice it during a flight.

@@NickBurnsFPV I also recorded a video via sd card on the goggles and "stripes" appeared on the video. This made me think that the problem may be with VTX transition. If you analyze how a signal travels inside goggles, first it goes from RTX through recording module and then gets displayed on OLED, so display has nothing to do with this problem, or am I wrong? If this is the case, then goggles are fine.
