i am installing an electic lock into the tail gate of my 96 dodge ram 1500

This is a fine idea, I didn't even realize that an electric option was available. I have a cheap tailgate lock mounted where the handle goes, similar to what you went through, without control from inside. Great video!
Whenever I haul a load of dirt or gravel, some of it spills in the crack between the bottom of the tailgate and the bumper. In your case that debris will hit your wires. You might consider protecting those wires with rubber or plastic loom for durability.

Thanks for this video! Is there a way to add a key backup? Being locked out of the bed would be unfortunate if the vehicle battery dies!

very cool mod.... I did not know either about an electric option for my tailgate... I all ready have keyless entry from factory on my 98 ram larime. can this option be added to my system all ready?
