what a great job editing it all together. i just ordered an R6 and it will be in my hands Friday ... think this is why RUclips thought i might want to see this video. i just hope I can edit the files on my computer.
Funny coincidence! Thanks! The R6 is a great camera! I’m sure your computer can definitely handle the 1080p files. 4K you may need to make proxies depending on your processor and graphics card, but you can always upscale 1080 to 4K and it looks just as good.
This looks fantastic , I’ve just started shooting in clog and clog 3 recently and can get nothing like this in clog 3, my footage looks incredibly grainy in shadows, have u any tips to shoot on the R6 in clog 3 thanks 🙏
I had the same problem when I started using log! It usually happened if I under-exposed and tried to recover that information by boosting the shadows in post. Try over-exposing by just a little bit. No more than a stop over. I recommend using the zebras tool the camera has to help or if you use a monitor use waveforms and false color. Hopefully that should make your images less noisy!
Hi JayJay, it really comes down to the skin tones and greens in your image. BT.709 seems to add a lot more saturation to oranges and reds in skin tones while in Cinema Gamut those colors are muted a little more and feels just more natural. The greens in BT.709 are also more saturated and look more like true green. In cinema gamut the greens have a little more yellow/brown hue to them. It really comes down to preference and you can always adjust in post.
Seriously this is a piece of art regarding documentaries shot on a R6. Love to see how you took advantage of the new clog3 and cinema gamut! This is a clean edit, superb music choice and execution! Wondering if you would share your AF settings or in general the video settings because I often find myself struggling with too inconsistent focussing with the adapted 24-70 Sigma ART lens.
Thanks so much dude! Really appreciate it! I usually shoot on default autofocus settings but under some circumstances I lower the sensitivity and even the speed during subject busy shots.
Great Video this is giving a very indie vibe like Dazed and Confused or Everybody wants some. Can you make a video on your color grading and exporting process?
Hi Eric so i am getting a lot of noise with c log on canon r6 and even more with c log 3 ..I mean its worse than EOS R ,actually the eos r had very minimal noise in shadows..i was wondering do you have the same issue with r6? i tried to shoot at night with clog 3 at 1000-1200 iso and the footage is unusable ..never had this issue with eos r
Hey John! I had that issue a little bit at first and found out that I was underexposing the image in clog. You want to overexpose and bring down your shadows rather than have to lift them up in post. If you lift up underexposed shadows that’s where you will find the noise. If you overexpose and bring the shadows down then the noise is minimal. Also in clog 3, try shooting in ISO’s 800, 1600, 3200 and 6400 depending on you lighting situation. These will display less noise since they increments of the Base ISO which usually has less noise. 1000 and 1200 ISO will have more noise the 1600 because at 1600 it is double the base ISO of 800 for clog 3 so it cleans up a lot of the noise
Thanks a lot@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker . I didnt know that about the double iso. Will try it out asap thanks. And yes i underexposed my footage this time, not sure why but i feel that r6 in general exposes darker than the R in both video and photos. And i still cant get use to it..Even the display looks darker to me for some reason. But when i get it right the 10bit quality and colors are next level with r6...but when i get it wrong footage is unuseable.i quess i need more practise
Definitely takes some practice. It took me a bit to learn how to use clog correctly and get proper exposure. Trick I use for video is pushing down on the photo shutter button and it shows the exposure meter. I also shoot without the view assist on so I’m seeing what the straight log image looks like. I do one test with the subject up close and another with how I want the shot to be to see each exposure level. I never used the EOS R so I can’t say about the exposure difference between the two cameras, but I think with more tests you’ll adapt to the R6.
@@EricMaloneyFilmmaker thanks for the advices Eric. did you find any good canon luts for r6? if you have a link that would be really helpful:) Thanks again
I’ve been loving Clog 3! Nope, I didn’t use a canon lut. I just added shadow and a little contrast. Upped the saturation level a bit and tweaked the color hues using curves to get the result I wanted.
Looks like a movie:) what lens did you use? I quess you shoot this one in 10bit? I have the canon eos r and i am thinking to get the r6 not sure if it worth the upgrade, what do u think? Thanks
Thanks! Yup all 10 but footage! I shot this mostly on the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and a little on the Sigma 100-400mm. That’s a good question if it’s worth the upgrade. I guess it depends what you feel you need. If all you want is 10 bit color then you can buy a Atamos Ninja V for 1/3 the price of the R6 and get that. But if you want the all the helpful features like IBIS, improved autofocus system, Clog 3, and full frame 4K then I think it’s worth the investment.
Wow actually discovered your channel cause of the video with the canon t7i! So you got a new camera! I'm also thinking about the R6, how do you like it? :) with which program do you edit? And how was the overheating while recording the footage? I have some more questions but that would be too long here :D
Thank so much for watching! Yup I picked up the R6 back in January because I was looking for something with more dynamic range, better autofocus and a few other features. I’m really loving it. I’ve shot a lot of content with it this year and it’s been super reliable. Autofocus works great, lowlight performance is spectacular and the dynamic range is just what I was looking for. I haven’t shot much 4K so no overheating on my end, but I also do t do a lot of long form content. I used Adobe Premiere Pro for editing videos and it’s been working pretty well for me, may switch over to Davinci Resolve just so I do t have to pay the subscription fee. I’m happy to answer any more questions you may have :)
Thanks! I usually bring my shadows and blacks down first till it looks right. Not crushed, but to where there is still a good amount of detail but creates natural look to them. I then add some contrast, but not too much. Just a little bit so my highlights aren’t blown out a ton. I then add a good amount of saturation and some vibrancy then I color grade to what I think best suits the scene.
This is amazing! Well done. I am selling A7iii due to poor skintones/color. Getting the R6! Any lens suggestions for shooting sports (indoor/outdoor) and short documentary style interviews?
Thanks so much! The R6 is a really great camera and I hope you enjoy it! For lenses I tend of adapt EF lenses. So my go to lens is the sigma 24-70 because it covers a variety of focal lengths I like for all projects. I have used it for documentary interviews but you may want something with a little longer focal length. If you want a good lens for documentary and sports you might want to to look at the sigma 70-200 f2.8 for ef mount. It cost less than the canon version and has great image quality too. It’s good for both outdoor indoor lighting situations with the f2.8 aperture.
