The first half of 1984 is peak AHS. Absolutely brilliant, one massive chase scene spanning multiple episodes, with new shocks and twists every few minutes. Criminally underrated.
I definitely agree with you on Roanoke being a great season to rewatch. I think the reason why I love rewatching this season so much is because it brings up the nostalgic memories that I experienced when watching this season, when watching it back in 2016.
I didn't like it at all until rewatching it. The first time around, when it came out, I really didn't like it or even finish the season. The format change really threw me for a loop and I wasn't vibing with the theme. On rewatch tho? I really enjoyed it. Not my favorite season, but it's very good and definitely overhated. I think there are a lot of people like me out there that would benefit from giving it another shot if they didn't "get it" at first
yeah it really could have been an installation of american crime story. trying to add supernatural or otherwise gratuitous horror to an already horrific part of american history was strange and is typical of ryan murphy’s tone deaf method of story telling.
roanoke in retrospect really is overhated/overlooked in my opinion. i agree with you it's so rewatchable bc of the pacing, some genuinely scary moments but still keeps the campy and at times humorous tone i love about classic ahs. it's the first and so far the only break in format (apart from maaaaybe double flopture) that simultaneously pokes fun at but is also a love letter to "based on true events" horror documentaries, the found footage genre and new england folk tales. if it was released today it'd give the franchise the breath of fresh air it desperately needs. definitely in my top 5 for sure.
Roanoke had a phenomenal first half but they ruined it with the second half. The return to the house made absolutely zero sense and all the characters suddenly had 10 IQ.
Yea Ive never been able to understand the criticism for the season. I think the pacing is well, the characters are good, the acting is iffy at times but it's nice. I never understood how it was confusing to some people
Just watched NYC again and I think it’s a near masterpiece. It has some missteps sure but it has some of the strongest characters, direction, and emotional stakes i’ve ever seen in AHS, definitely worth a rewatch
My ranking that no one asked for and changes everytime I think about it: 1) Asylum 2) Coven 3) Murder House 4) Hotel 5) 1984 6) Freak Show 7) Cult 8) Apocalypse 9) Roanoke 10) Double Feature 11/12: NYC & Delicate (didn’t finish)
apocalypse was solid, but it's disappointing that they wasted the "end of the world" idea on basically a coven 2.0 season. they really could have done a lot with the nuclear armageddon idea and post-apocalyptic setting but i mean they turned the season into something completely unrelated. that's one theme I hope they eventually re-do, as it deserves its own season.
Here's my Ranking 1: Coven (BALENCIAGAAAAAA!!!) 2: Freak Show (The most creative season imo, I love the time period its set in) 3: Asylum (Scary asf) 4: Apocalypse (I LOVED THIS SEASON SM) 5: NYC (I genuinely loved this season, its an inspiration for a novel I'm writing) 6: Cult (Love raging lesbians, cults and 2016 election) 7: Hotel (Over the top but iconic) 8: Murder House (Not a rewatchable season for me but amazing) 9: Roanoke (Mainly because mockumentary/found footage isnt really my thing) 10: Delicate (Interesting concept but not my fav) 11: Double Feature (Why... Just why...) 12: 1984 (Loved the second half, hated the first half)
Here's my favorite anthology TV series American Horror Story seasons ranked. 12. Freak Show season four 11. Roanoke season six 10. Double Feature season ten 9. Hotel season five 8. NYC season eleven 7. Cult season seven 6. Delicate season twelve 5. 1984 season nine 4. Apocalypse season eight 3. Coven season three 2. Asylum season two 1. Murder House season one
My personal ranking would be: 1. Coven 2. Murder House 3. Hotel 4. Apocalypse 5. NYC 6. Red Tide 7. Asylum 8. 1984 9. Cult 10. Freak Show 11. Roanoke 12. Delicate 13. Death Valley
first person to I've seen that also ranks hotel at 1. I love that season so much even when I re-watch it, it feels too short. Then coven, it was amazing back then and now its nostalgic.
So here's my ranking of all 12 seasons of American Horror Story. 12. Season 4: Freak Show with 13 episodes 2014-15 11. Season 6: Roanoke with 10 episodes 2016 10. Season 10: Double Feature with 10 episodes 2021 9. Season 5: Hotel with 12 episodes 2015-16 8. Season 11: NYC with 10 episodes 2022 7. Season 7: Cult with 11 episodes 2017 6. Season 12: Delicate with 9 episodes 2023-24 5. Season 9: 1984 with 9 episodes 2019 4. Season 8: Apocalypse with 10 episodes 2018 3. Season 3: Coven with 13 episodes 2013-14 2. Season 2: Asylum with 13 episodes 2012-13 1. Season 1: Murder House with 12 episodes 2011
Roanoke had an incredible first half with such a unique premise, but they massacred the second season with the ridiculous, absurd second half that made no sense.
With so many seasons out there today it feels hard for me to rank them in a good way...but I guess my ranking would be smth like this...: 12. Double Feature 11. 1984 10. Hotel 9. Delicate 8. Apocalypse 7. NYC 6. Roanoke 5. Murder House 4. Coven 3. Cult 2. Freak Show 1. Asylum
Every time I revisit ranking AHS seasons I always have to apologize to freakshow because I was like “nothing can get worse.” Boy was I super wrong. I’m a big outlier in the fandom were I dislike Asylum a lot. I like the demon and serial killer aspect but I hate the whole alien thing. I think it was trying to do way too much with everything that could be scary. I again have to apologize to Asylum because when double feature came out and Death Valley was airing I’m like “oh it could have been so much worse.”
My ranking: 1. Freakshow 2. Asylum 3. Coven 4 and 5 (equal ranking). Hotel and Murder House 6. 1984 7. Roanoke 8. Death Valley 9. Apocalypse 10. Red Tide 11. Cult NYC, haven't watched Delicate, haven't watched
If I was about to rank, that would be this: (For some reasons I haven't started watching NYC and Hotel.., so I'm ranking them out of ten.) 1_ Asylum (for sure) 2_ Murder house 3_Freak show 4_Roanoke 5_Cult 6_Apocalypse 7_Coven (stronger than apocalypse) 8_1984 9_Red tide 10_Delicate 11_Death Valley
I would rank it like: 1. Coven - First AHS season I watched, loved it from the beginning, I have seen this season like 5 times, maybe more 2. Asylum - Sister Jude 3. 1984 - I am a total sucker for this season, I love it so much, I always feel that it should have had 10 episodes with the 9th one being the massacre at the festival, I feel we were robbed of that, and the 10th one being the actual 9th episode, which I love 4. Freakshow - This one is just too good, some of the best characters 5. Roanoke - Such a fun surprise watching this for the first time, and it gets better when you rewatch it 6. Murder House - Really good, I just like others more 7. Cult - Liked it more on my 2nd viewing, this one is really funny 8. Apocalypse - Pretty fun one, but the ending just made the entire season pointless 9. Delicate - A complete mess, but it had very funny and campy moments, the ''It's my body'' scene is just hilarious 10. Double Feature - Have actually never seen the second half, but the first one was quite engaging, although the ending was infuriating 11. NYC - I have only seen it once and didn't like it at all, only one scene stood out to me, but I want to rewatch it. 12. Hotel - I have never connected with this season, I tried to rewatch it once and didn't make it past like 5 episodes, but I definitely need to rewatch this in full
Might be an unpopular opinion but I don’t rlly like coven. I think it’s really messy and I hate the whole love story between Zoe and whoever tf that guy was
recency bias! and i was only 18 when it aired and i think ive developed a stronger sense of what makes a good season since. even so, i remember rating some episodes as low as 5/10 back in the day. lots of 10/10 episodes in the first half though
I was waiting for this video since the “what is your favorite thumbnail color” hehehe Before watching here is my top: Cult Hotel Coven Asylum Apocalypse Freak Show Delicate 1984 Double Feature - I Mrdr House Roanoke Double Feature - II NYC out of range: it’s the only season of AHS I’ve never watched, I want it to, but, it went under my radar 😳 PS:. I maybe biased though Hotel, my cat is called Gaga
This would be my ranking 1: Coven 2: Asylum 3: Murder House 4: Freak Show 5: Roanoke 6: Apocalypse 7: Delicate 8: Hotel 9: 1984 10: Cult 11: NYC 12: Double Feature
1. ASYLUM 2. FREAK SHOW 3. NYC (A season that has been terribly underrated by most of the fandom and that has reflected a lot of ignorance about the subject it deals with, as well as homophobia and internalized homophobia in the viewer). 4. DOUBLE FEATURE (The fact that I love it doesn't excuse me from thinking that I would have enjoyed both stories better as two long, independent seasons of 10 episodes. The streaming era has hurt AHS because the short format doesn't suit it). 5. CULT 6. COVEN 7. MURDER HOUSE 8. HOTEL 9. ROANOKE 10. 1984 (I love slashers and enjoyed it a lot, but I have a thorn in my side because this season has the biggest plot hole of the series with the presence of Richard Ramirez immortal and eternally young, unlike the one who appears in Hotel. In fact, this season was going to have 10 episodes and they shortened the ending for some reason. I can deduce that originally there was going to be some twist in homage to Scream 2, which would be very logical in this season). 11. DELICATE 12. APOCALYPSE (The fanservice season that had the bad luck of being filmed in California despite the fact that 60% of its story is a flashback set in New Orleans. The interiors of the Coven house that they recreated were very bad. Even so, it is a very funny season with very careful connections. I would have liked to see more scenes of the apocalyptic world and destruction).
my ranking: 1. asylum 2. murder house 3. coven 4. hotel 5. roanoke 6. freakshow 7. cult 8. apocalypse 9. 1984 10. red tide (first 5 episodes were so good i was so devasted to see the rest of the season) 11. nyc (i stopped watching after the first two episodes) 12. delicate (didn’t get past the first episode)
13 - Death Valley ( please never do this again ) 12 - Delicate ( what happened? That’s not a rhetorical question what actually happened ) 11 - NYC ( boring and forgettable ) 10 - Red Tide ( super underwritten) 9 - Apocalypse 8 - Cult 7 - Hotel 6 - Freakshow 5 - 1984 4 - Murder House 3 - Roanoke 2 - Coven 1 - Asylum 👑
I appreciate your ranking; IM0 coven while better than Roanoke (agreed) is the first AHS to lean into comedy. Top 3? Asylum is extremely creative ; coven is extremely well written and 1984 because the slasher genre is extremely well critiqued with a unique AHS tone. Worst 3? D/F is extremely disjointed the scifi plot shoulda been fleshed out and the salems lot homaged half shoulda been ditched; Delicate has an extremely drawn out weak story being a rosemary’s baby lite; NYC the subject was handled well and felt more like a made for cable like tv movie as opposed to AHS so while it gets kudos for its deserved remembrance it feels individualistic and not encapsulated within the AHS tone.
It used to be super easy but it's getting diffucult...to rank what's worse :P I think it will always be 2,3,1&4,6,8,9,7, 5 but the more the seasons go, the most diffucult it gets. I misjudged season 11 and I regret it. But there are times when Ryan must learn that sometimes less is more. They started Red Tide so good, the 5th episode was EPIC but 6? Not to mention Death Valley. The season ended and I was like "ok, there must be another episode". Plot twist, there wasn't. NYC, it was good but still it felt all over the place sometimes. Delicate... lowburn and cliché AHS used to never be cliché. So if I had to rank them, from best to worse: I'd go 2,3,1,4,6,8,9 (i hate the supernatural elements), 7,11,10 ((just for Red Tide), 5 (too many ideas scattered together, it was all just aesthetics) and 12 (it was boring for god's sake). Hope I didn't forget one.
my personal ranking: 1. Coven 2. Asylum 3. Roanoke 4. 1984 5. Apocalypse 6. Murder House 7. Red Tide 8. Delicate 9. Hotel 10. NYC 11. Cult 12. Freak Show 13. Death Valley
Her is my ranking, it’s a bit controversial but idc, my favorite recent season is delicate because of the unique vibe and soundtrack but i really love the vibe of all the AHS seasons and the actors! I really enjoy your content💗 will you ever do any more scream queens video? 1 coven 2 delicate 3 apocalypse 4 1984 5 double feature 6 roanoke 7 freak show 8 cult 9 hotel 10 nyc 11 murder house 12 asylum
Very well considered ranking and a fun video. Just a quick couple of corrections though: Freak Show was set in the 1950s, not the '40s, and its location filming was done entirely in New Orleans, not Florida, where it was set. My ranking: 1. Asylum 2. Freak Show 3. Murder House 4. Roanoke 5. Coven 6. Apocalypse 7. Cult 8. NYC 9. Hotel 10. Double Feature 11. 1984 I haven't seen Delicate yet.
My favourites are the first 3 seasons, apocalypse and some parts of hotel (the story really fell off in hotel tho) It's a shame that apocalypse ended so poorly but tbh it is really fun
I stopped watching AHS on streaming platforms because of the creators' ongoing support of I$real, along w it's treatment of POC actors, and also questionable behaviour from cast members (Ms Roberts👀). I watch them exclusively on pirating sites lol. I found Delicate to be super underwhelming ngl. I liked how it started, but the ending pissed me off. I couldn't get through apocalypse either, it was so boring and cringey? I did not enjoy it.
I love that Roanoke and Hotel is finally getting recognized after getting shitted on for years! 🥲 My personal rankings would be: 1. Coven 2. Murder House 3. Asylum 4. Roanoke 5. Hotel 6. Freak Show 7. Apocalypse 8. Cult 9. 1984 10. Delicate 11. NYC 12. Double Feature
My personal ranking: (also take on the seasons) 1. Cult (love the psychological horror, I'll always rewatch this. there just so much i enjoy with this season) 2. Asylum (just so amazing, as a psych student, the theme of mental health really hits personal) 3. Roanoke ( honestly to me is the scariest season besides Asylum) 4. 1984 ( classic 80's horror slasher like common! such a good summer or halloween type season to watch!) 5. Freakshow ( beautiful cinema and emotional af. Was the season that really got my attention and love for AHS though coven was the first season i watched) 6.Coven ( badass season. classic AHS. I'm over the witches theme a bit but always this holds my heart) 7. Hotel ( really good season, very campy horror and beautiful in its own way. SALLY my ultimate fav character) 8. Delicate ( I enjoyed it, it was interesting but could have been better if they stuck to the book instead of the whole satanic cult) 9. NYC (as a gay man, it really did feel personal and needed to discuss as it literally is an American horror story. Though i didn;t live through it, its just so tragic to think about. do hate that it didn't represent more groups within the LGBTQ community and people of color. would have bump it up higher if so 10. Apocalpyse ( was okay, was more interested with the end of the world stuff but was cool to see Cordelia and loved Venable) 11. Double feature ( Red tide has so much potential til that ending! Death Valley, just.. i guess) 12. Murderhouse ( im sorry, im just so over this season. will always respect it because its what started the show. Obviously moments in the show that i will never forget ( Tate and the school massacre, Violet finding her body. But also moments that bothers me, especially violet and tate relationship, its so toxic)
here's my ranking of all seasons based on MY OPINION. (I'll split death valley and red tide) 13. Death Valley 12. Delicate 11. Red Tide 10. NYC 9. Apocalypse 8. Murder House 7. Roanoke 6. 1984 5. Freak Show 4. Coven 3. Cult 2. Asylum 1. Hotel
Let's cut to the chase. _Delicate_ has easily replaced _Roanoke_ as the worst (both literally unwatchable), with _Cult_ not far behind. AHS has never lived up to the success and critical acclaim of _Coven_ (being the best), _Freak Show_ , _Murder House_ , and _Asylum_ (in that order). Class dismissed.
Loved Roanoke too. I don't get the hate towards it. I think it's just people trying to br "trendy"
Roanoke though not the BEST season but is definitely is the SCARIEST season!
Roanoke is awful and unwatchable in my opinion
I didn't like it at all until rewatching it. The first time around, when it came out, I really didn't like it or even finish the season. The format change really threw me for a loop and I wasn't vibing with the theme. On rewatch tho? I really enjoyed it. Not my favorite season, but it's very good and definitely overhated. I think there are a lot of people like me out there that would benefit from giving it another shot if they didn't "get it" at first
I personally enjoyed NYC but felt like it should've been in a different series
yeah it really could have been an installation of american crime story. trying to add supernatural or otherwise gratuitous horror to an already horrific part of american history was strange and is typical of ryan murphy’s tone deaf method of story telling.

Actually you are the one being a contrarian. It's overly hated because it's awful
Great ranking. Mine would be

Freak show controversial opinion but it’s my favorite season
Love your ranking ! And the way you speak
It’s like they don’t care anymore. The new seasons. Big budgets and hurried scripts Ryan Murphy has too much on his plate
They need 1 more FANTASTIC modern season. 🔥
@@BensUniverse they could def bring it back
Yes!! This is a really great ranking!!
apocalypse was solid, but it's disappointing that they wasted the "end of the world" idea on basically a coven 2.0 season. they really could have done a lot with the nuclear armageddon idea and post-apocalyptic setting but i mean they turned the season into something completely unrelated. that's one theme I hope they eventually re-do, as it deserves its own season.

(The fanservice season that had the bad luck of being filmed in California despite the fact that 60% of its story is a flashback set in New Orleans. The interiors of the Coven house that they recreated were very bad. Even so, it is a very funny season with very careful connections. I would have liked to see more scenes of the apocalyptic world and destruction).
my ranking:
1. asylum
2. murder house
3. coven
4. hotel
5. roanoke
6. freakshow
7. cult
8. apocalypse
9. 1984
10. red tide (first 5 episodes were so good i was so devasted to see the rest of the season)
11. nyc (i stopped watching after the first two episodes)
12. delicate (didn’t get past the first episode)
Wow, I feel murder house is the EASIEST season to rewatch imo outside of Maybe Coven
Do the same with American horror stories episodes
Another review putting Double Feature last 🤦♂️ it was great
13 - Death Valley ( please never do this again )
12 - Delicate ( what happened? That’s not a rhetorical question what actually happened )
11 - NYC ( boring and forgettable )
10 - Red Tide ( super underwritten)
9 - Apocalypse
8 - Cult
7 - Hotel
6 - Freakshow
5 - 1984
4 - Murder House
3 - Roanoke
2 - Coven
1 - Asylum 👑
Freak show is far better than cult, apocalypse, 1984, and nyc. I respect your opinion! But the 5 five seasons will always be the best
Apocalypse is definitely way worse than anything they’ve done. That season feels like a parody, and it gets worse, and worse, and WORSE.
Im glad to see Roanoke getting some love, but girl this list is so gen z coded lol
my personal ranking:
1. Coven
2. Asylum
3. Roanoke
4. 1984
5. Apocalypse
6. Murder House
7. Red Tide
8. Delicate
9. Hotel
10. NYC
11. Cult
12. Freak Show
13. Death Valley
Delicate was by far the worst for me. NYC is so so underrated. It's truly an overlooked masterpiece. Delicate being the follow up was truly tragic.
You should rewatch murder house it’s a masterclass imo that the show just never lives up to.
Her is my ranking, it’s a bit controversial but idc, my favorite recent season is delicate because of the unique vibe and soundtrack but i really love the vibe of all the AHS seasons and the actors! I really enjoy your content💗
will you ever do any more scream queens video?
1 coven
2 delicate
3 apocalypse
4 1984
5 double feature
6 roanoke
7 freak show
8 cult
9 hotel
10 nyc

12 asylum

You lost me at apocalypse being 8
Best AHS ASYLUM
Worst AHS ROANOKE
Very well considered ranking and a fun video. Just a quick couple of corrections though: Freak Show was set in the 1950s, not the '40s, and its location filming was done entirely in New Orleans, not Florida, where it was set.
My ranking:
1. Asylum
2. Freak Show
3. Murder House
4. Roanoke
5. Coven
6. Apocalypse
7. Cult
8. NYC
9. Hotel
10. Double Feature
11. 1984
I haven't seen Delicate yet.
Buddy have news about season 13 of ahs
My favourites are the first 3 seasons, apocalypse and some parts of hotel (the story really fell off in hotel tho)
It's a shame that apocalypse ended so poorly but tbh it is really fun
FINALLY SOME AHS ROANOKE LOVE 👏👏👏👏👏
🎉
Bro look at the camera
I stopped watching AHS on streaming platforms because of the creators' ongoing support of I$real, along w it's treatment of POC actors, and also questionable behaviour from cast members (Ms Roberts👀).
I watch them exclusively on pirating sites lol. I found Delicate to be super underwhelming ngl. I liked how it started, but the ending pissed me off. I couldn't get through apocalypse either, it was so boring and cringey? I did not enjoy it.
I love that Roanoke and Hotel is finally getting recognized after getting shitted on for years! 🥲
My personal rankings would be:
1. Coven
2. Murder House
3. Asylum
4. Roanoke
5. Hotel
6. Freak Show
7. Apocalypse
8. Cult
9. 1984
10. Delicate
11. NYC
12. Double Feature
My personal ranking: (also take on the seasons)
1. Cult (love the psychological horror, I'll always rewatch this. there just so much i enjoy with this season)
2. Asylum (just so amazing, as a psych student, the theme of mental health really hits personal)
3. Roanoke ( honestly to me is the scariest season besides Asylum)
4. 1984 ( classic 80's horror slasher like common! such a good summer or halloween type season to watch!)
5. Freakshow ( beautiful cinema and emotional af. Was the season that really got my attention and love for AHS though coven was the first season i watched)
6.Coven ( badass season. classic AHS. I'm over the witches theme a bit but always this holds my heart)
7. Hotel ( really good season, very campy horror and beautiful in its own way. SALLY my ultimate fav character)
8. Delicate ( I enjoyed it, it was interesting but could have been better if they stuck to the book instead of the whole satanic cult)
9. NYC (as a gay man, it really did feel personal and needed to discuss as it literally is an American horror story. Though i didn;t live through it, its just so tragic to think about. do hate that it didn't represent more groups within the LGBTQ community and people of color. would have bump it up higher if so
10. Apocalpyse ( was okay, was more interested with the end of the world stuff but was cool to see Cordelia and loved Venable)
11. Double feature ( Red tide has so much potential til that ending! Death Valley, just.. i guess)
12. Murderhouse ( im sorry, im just so over this season. will always respect it because its what started the show. Obviously moments in the show that i will never forget ( Tate and the school massacre, Violet finding her body. But also moments that bothers me, especially violet and tate relationship, its so toxic)
Ryan just needs to give it a rest tbh or come up with something new
Am I the ONLY person who hates hotel 🙄
Its 100% in my lower ranks its just so scattered
Its 100% in my lower ranks its just so scattered
No I hate it too
It's so good though minus the real life serial killer stuff
I don't hate it but coldnt get into it. It's way too boring for me
I had to stop watching after you ranked freak show 10th. So im done.
Hotel at 1 is wild 😭
here's my ranking of all seasons based on MY OPINION. (I'll split death valley and red tide)
13. Death Valley
12. Delicate
11. Red Tide
10. NYC
9. Apocalypse
8. Murder House
7. Roanoke
6. 1984
5. Freak Show
4. Coven
3. Cult
2. Asylum
1. Hotel
Hotel is the worst season for me 💀 roanoke, asylum, coven, freak show are my favorite
NYC was also an amazing season I love the more human seasons tbh
My personal ranking
1. Hotel
2. Coven
3. Apocalypse
4. Murder House
5. Delicate
6. Asylum
7. Freak Show
8. Roanoke
9. Cult
10. 1984
11. Double Feature
12. NYC
