This is just what I need. I was just at the bookstore and purchased two of Hurve Tiller’s books. There’s so many books to choose from and distinguishing which one is best investment wise is always a hard task. Thank you for this! Will definitely check out some of the books in your list. Also, I’ve been read acting since I started my career in early childhood. My aunt who’s a librarian did this all the time when I was a kid so I was inspired by her to read in a similar way and I kid you not, it changes the game and kids love it!
I’ve been “read acting” for 30 years but didn’t know how to explain how to do it or the benefits of it to colleagues-thank you!!! Sharing this!!TTB member!

I have been trying to introduce lift the flap or slide books in my classroom some are for the students and some are just mine, but if they ask they may look at it. They have gotten good at not ripping the pages and learning how to ask a friend if they can’t figure out how to flip or slide a paper or place it make correctly. The word you made up for reading is something that I actual have used in reading my dad has always done that. It’s like acting out the book or changing ur tone to match the words. I loved listening to read aloud books that had different voices for each character but the person who does the voice is the same. Some times I adapt the words on the paper to match the reading level of my students or to shorten a page because some books have great information but not in a form where my students can’t understand or it might be written for a higher resign level. We read a book about how crayons were made and I changed it to a crayon speaking to them telling them how it was made and how it could get picked to go though a test to make sure it meets the needs of it users (them) but if it didn’t it was okay caus then it moved forward. Then When I was looking at Skalasket books I realize they have a book a lot similar to what I literally made up with the book I had assembly too. I will say one nice thing about being the states is books are more cost affordable or or you can secondhand thrift books that’s what I do for my classroom. I have traveled and taught in different countries that didn’t have accessibility or access to a lot of books so you had to utilize different grade levels that weren’t compatible or necessarily written for that grade level that you were teaching at so you had to make it adaptable when you were reading it to the students or one of things I did was place Post-it notes or something of The sorts in the book I did do Velcro dots with Velcro words covering up words that were too high level just not at the right level for the students I was teaching. This allowed the students to be able to read the books independently or look at the pictures on their own and try to engage with the words in the pictures but it was at their level. So when you were speaking about things of that manner I was like yes I’ve use that and I’m glad you given it a name. I did notice that reading to students in different countries is a lot different than places that I have worked at in the United States. I’m not sure if this is the actual thing or not it’s just what I observed the whole means about how we go about doing education is a lot different so sometimes it’s hard for me to revert back to practices here if that makes sense. So thanks for the advice.
