Helpful Tip: Set up Block, Art, Library Centers before school begins, then cover 3/4 of the shelves with butcher paper. Reveal more supplies/activities as the first weeks go by. This way you aren't storing materials. I have done this for years in preschool and kindergarten. Surprisingly, the kids rarely notice the hidden shelves!
I am cracking up! I was in 5th grade and now I’m teaching 3&4 year old preschool! I’ve watched so many of your RUclips videos. I’ve ordered a puppet and a microphone. I am so thankful!
I am new Early Childhood Special Education teacher. My students started late last week. I thought I was wrong for allowing them to wander and explore the classroom space for the first two days. I wanted them to get comfortable being in the classroom and around myself and the paraprofessionals especially since they mostly cried on the first day. Tomorrow starts the first full week of school for us. I wanted to begin working on procedures and routines. I feel like in the first two days we were able to pick up on some of their habits and what some actions mean. I'm very excited at this opportunity to learn from your lesson plan as I was trying to figure out how I was going to teach them about the classroom and centers in small pieces because currently they have not shown any interest too much in the centers but they love the sing and dance videos. Thank you.
Thank you! I owned and operated a home preschool business for 15 years and continue to “read aloud” via this youtube channel. I just accepted a position at a school and will be taking over a classroom that has 20 years of clutter and supplies in it. This video as so refreshing for me as I agree with everything and I will definitely be using your first 10 day lesson plan!
I'm a brand new teacher starting PS in a Reggio school. I've been so worried and stressed in the build up to the start of this year as it's hard to know exactly where to start. I know maybe some elements can't be used in my school but I wanted to say thank you so much for your careful and concise explanation and resources I can scaffold my first couple weeks from, I feel much better about starting the school year simply and that the kids and I can build up as we go 🙏🏽
This was my first day of pre K - 8th. I felt really defeated before I watched your video. Thank you so much! 💗 I’m going to push through these first day behavior obstacles. Soooo helpful. I’m going to get to know my student’s needs for enrichment! And I feel confident explaining this approach to parents and admin. 😘
This is also helpful to special education teachers. I’m a self contained teacher k-4 and yes my students cut their hair and try to eat glue. Very helpful. Thanks a bunch.
Lol… I was hired as a pre-k teacher 2 days after school started because they had to upgrade the other teacher to kinder! 😬😂 It was also my first year… and definitely a learning experience! Going on 4 years now and love it! Your courses and tips have been super helpful and life savers! Thank you! 🙏
I just got hired as a preschool English teacher in Japan! Although I’m mostly a teacher’s aid that also teaches an English lesson, this is so incredibly helpful! Thanks for helping me feel a bit more prepared 😊❤️
I'm a middle and high school teacher, with a Early Childhood Major, but never work in my area. I obtained my degree 17 years ago! Just got hired as a Pre-K teacher. Classes will start in 2 days. I'm lost in space.
Congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of Pre-K! You're definitely in the right place. Go back and watch past episodes of the podcast when you have time. If you want something more in depth then you might consider looking into my mentorship program, Teaching Trailblazers - we have lots of students who have moved down from upper elementary grades, but middle and high is an enormous jump. teachingtrailblazers.com/
I just sent my email to you! This is my 8th year having a home daycare and I’m starting out a preschool program out of my home so I’m trying to figure it all out! Thank you!
You have a new subscriber 🥰. Precious advice right there! Thank you. I have a question though, how to handle crying, kicking, angry...children without losing the control of the whole classroom? Thank you
Hi Venessa!! I'm so glad to see you back. Posting on RUclips. Great information and tips. You look great very pretty. You grew your hair out. Looks good on you
The internet will always find ways to swallow emails :) Please reach out to customercare@pre-kpages.com and they will get it to you. Thanks for your patience.
Ok so what to do when your district no longer thinks a certified teacher is needed in Pk??? Loosing my mind trying to teach moms off the street the basics with full inclusion at 18 with 8-10 being special needs Pk students… in for profit program with a requirement of using Golds strategies. Let’s say kids are far from ready for kinder…. Trying to provide visuals for routines simple activities and basic ADL’s. Thank you for the simple ideas to slow down the class and work on routines and transitions. I love the first 10 day lessons. This might be what I support these paras to do all year.
Covid has changed everything so much! We aren’t allowed to have dress up out, only things that are safe to bleach at the end of the day, no sensory table, etc... Plus we do ECERS, which say that we should have a lot of stuff available at all times for each student. For my autistic and ADHD children a lot of stuff is overwhelming and over stimulating to them. Plus, my last day of the school year was Friday (we go all year). 😁. Thanks for the great tips!

It depends on where you live and which type of preschool you teach. I taught Pre-K in a public school, so I needed to have the same teaching degree/certification as all K-12 teachers, plus ESL and early childhood certification. If you wanted to teach in a private preschool the requirements may differ by school. For childcare programs it depends by state, but typically no degree is required.
Not sure about art specifically, but there are TEKS (Guidelines) for PK4 and TX guidelines for 3 year-olds as well: tea.texas.gov/academics/early-childhood-education/texas-prekindergarten-guidelines (pre-k) and childrenslearninginstitute.org/resources/itelg/ (for infants- 3 years of age) If you go with process art/experimentation and exposure for 3 and 4 year-olds you can't go wrong.

what kind of education is required to become a preschool teacher?
It depends on where you live and which type of preschool you teach. I taught Pre-K in a public school, so I needed to have the same teaching degree/certification as all K-12 teachers, plus ESL and early childhood certification. If you wanted to teach in a private preschool the requirements may differ by school. For childcare programs it depends by state, but typically no degree is required.
I teach Art. I will have PK and maybe 3 year olds. What would you teach and how? Do not have a clue. Frustrated. No TEKS or how to teach that age.
