- Reliving my youth by getting hold of an old record player circa 1960's. Bought on Ebay as non working. After the video I cleaned out the speaker and found a 2.5" spring stuck to the magnet which looks like it may have come loose somewhere - Any ideas - I'm thinking maybe the arm section.

The valve is either an ECL86 with a 6.3 volt heater or a UCL86 that uses a high voltage heater. Often used with a tap on the motor. In the long term you will need to replace the filter cap and the linking cap between the 2 stages of the amplifer.
Thanks for the tips. I will open it back up and check. I have it back in storage until I have more time to use it again, just been gifted my dads old vinyl singles. I would like to find a centre spindle for it but I don't know the dimensions and whether I could you one from another Philips based record player.

Thanks I thought it safer to play a b-side rather than a well known track. I always thought the b-side was unusual and fun!
to use the record player in automatic you need the longer spindle. to play 45’s without the longer spindle you have to keep the arm (not the tonearm) up

I've got a 1970s PYE gramophone and it works fine with radio and record player working but on the ice records the turntable vibrates and I have i keep it steady for it to work. i don't wanna pull it apart to put some grease or something in it because my grandmother got it brand new and she has died now and I might break the record player.
Thats a shame. Maybe you can look into having it serviced by a professional. It is possibly a good time to have the capacitors replaced as well as it greased up! I did this to an Ultra record player from the 1960s which my parents now have and are using. If you watch a video on the Optonica reciever I did you can also see what can happen if you do not keep the electronics serviced especially after a long period of time...
