I was honestly worried that you’d change the lyrics but I was delightfully wrong! The translyrics for this are surprisingly very close to the original yet they’re still catchy and rhyme! Also your voice… It’s beautiful. I love how whispery but staticky it sounds, makes for a wonderful pairing with Micchi’s cover for MARETU’s Magical Girl. (I love how you pronounce “heresey” in a way that it could also sound like “rotten hershey” as in the chocolate). **This is the part where it gets really long so if you don’t like paragraphs uhhh, sorry ;^^** Edit: The line _”Cut away the cancer and fill the hole, now tell me what do we replace it with?”_ honestly caught me off-guard, it’s different in wording from the original translation but I feel like it drives the message much more clearly than the original. I love how you changed the line _”It’s raining black somewhere in the station”_ into _”painting rain in their fainting pain”_ it’s such a good adaption of what’s essentially a Japanese phrase that can only be understood in Japanese. I love it so much… Edit 2: I do find it unfortunate that the section with all the bleeps had to be changed to just be about the “Teacher and Student”, rather than being vague and general to the point you could fill in the dialogue with any situation. I liked how in the original it was _”Did you know [x] and [x], then that means [x], which means [x], therefore it’s all [x]!”._ It was vague, the reporter never gave any specific details. Are they talking about the scholar? The idol? The by-standers? We’ll never know! But that vagueness leaves it up to the imagiantion of the viewer. Almost like a cookie-cutter “fill-in-the-box”. It makes a mockery of how rumours in the end are just people filling in the blanks and making stuff up along the way, using every possible trope to dismantle someone’s reputation. But that’s only one complaint! Everything else in this cover was executed wonderfully, I’m just a little picky about my favourite lines haha. (In your defence, your translyrics do serve that whole “fill-in-the-blanks” message that the original lyrics had so maybe it’s not all bad.)
Thank you sooo much! We really appreciate feedback like this haha. While I appreciate the compliments to my voice, a TON of work also went into vocal processing and mixing etc so we definitely cheated a bit dfjzfjd,, As for lyrics, certain producers definitely make it pretty difficult to transliterate and localize into an English setting, and PinoP is definitely one of them. His lyrics are always so in-depth and thoughtful, so the most Jacob and I try to do with the lyrics is present it in a way that exposes it to a new audience. It's a fun limitation to work around! Finding new metaphors that fit rhythmically and thematically while still staying true enough to the original is def the hardest part of that process, but also the most rewarding. I do really like that take on the "fill-in-the-box" original idea for that section more than what we ended up going with- definitely more food for thought! It's weird, since it's like singing words that say nothing, narratively speaking. Which is the point. I'd love to update to that in some sort of PinoP mashup track.. X number of years in the future. Many thanks for your kind and thoughtful words ^w^
"Rising like flies to a sweet demise until a candied carrion confides" when i say my jaw DROPPED all the metaphors and symbolism and making entire verses rhyme with AAAA rhyme sceme??? oh my godddd I'm in love with this cover you sing so clearly even when the verses move REALLY FAST. so talented!
not me abusing rhymezone to find as many rhymes as possible for shotgun rhyming- also man i wish i could re-figure out how i did the vocals and mix for this, I'm glad it came across well!
Thank you!! However... I hate to break some of the magic, but I'll let you into the secret: I sung it sliiightly slower and then did some post-production magic to put it in time.. I'm awful I know! xP
This is so good!?! Of course the mixing and vocals are incredible but I'm amazed by your ability to keep the lyrics consistent with the original but also make them poetic! Thank you for making this!
I genuinely came here expecting SO MUCH LESS than what i got It's PERFECT! You did a great job, the rhyming was so unexpected but it fit in so well and the lyrics tell the exact same story.. it's a sublime work.
I am Japan, but I was impressed by your translation and singing skills. I'm in the process of learning English, but I'm going to do my best with your covers. Good luck with your activities. : )
Lyrics - You didn’t hear this from me - There’s a student from the class next door, flirting with the teacher and then so much more. Some say the teacher’s touchy, immorals glore, rumor’s out so let the gossip pour. She’s found, chained underground, deranged and wound without a single soul around, but now she’s out about, unclothed and freely dancing. “Don’t forget to tag me in it!” “Don’t forget to send me all this!” Pass it on within this telephone game. Lost in translation, it all means the same. R LA LA PA PA LA PA PA PA LA Like hounds, we all chow down, the news we found, saliva now paints the ground, but now we’re feasting on lost memories, Overdosing on our precious ROTTEN HERESY. I’ll have a bite of this chocolate life, oh how the taste is so chemically divine… Who’s to say if it’s true or fake? Just dig into the saccharine lie. Sweet talk is all but an empty guise, the nectar that i’m after is finally mine. So you agree, now, don’t you? oh, of course, I think so too… How simple am I? …. Don’t you tell a soul about this - How about the idol in the news today? Falling for the teacher is just too cliché. Wanting to fit in, all the sheep obey, singing DAN DAN DI DAN DAN DAN DAN DI DAN The fight, within my mind, sinks in spite, and yet it all just won’t subside. Find the ace I hide deep in my sleeve, Smiling at the masses raining BOMBS OF JEALOUSY. Rising like flies to a sweet demise, until a candied carrion confides… Painting rain in their fainting pain, all so it would shrivel and die. I’m just a messenger gone awry, just selling to the masses their fetid supply So you’re like me, now, aren’t you? Oh, of course, i’m just like you… Hey did you hear about XXXX and XXXX? Well, I heard they XXX. And then it turned into a night of them XXXXing XXXX and XXXX!!! Cut away the cancer and fill the hole. So tell me, what do we replace it with? I’ll say the answer so listen close, and by my tail tucked away in sin. Looking away when IT comes this way, wishing IT stays when I shun ITS face. Tell me what you say when I ask you just what IT is?! Who cares? I’ll have a bite of this chocolate life, oh how the taste is so chemically divine… Who’s to say if it’s true or fake? Just dig into the saccharine lie. Rising like flies to a sweet demise, until a candied carrion confides… Painting rain in their fainting pain, all so it would shrivel and die. Sweet talk is all but an empty guise, the nectar that i’m after is finally mine. So you agree, now, don’t you? oh, of course, I think so too… Oh, how wrong was I?
