Again, I really appreaciate you talking about your lines and going through them and even helping each other. This really helps people follow the match without either overexplaining or being too fast.
Something I think I'd enjoy in the future is if the actual point totals of the cards being talked about popped up in the edit when they say what their pointed cards are. Wheeler talked about Thoracle possibly being overpointed and it would have been nice to be able to see what it's currently at.
Well thassa is currently 6. So when wheeler said he had an illegal deck. He didn’t because his points are thassa 6, gifts 1, tainted pact 1 mystical 1 and intuition is 1
Welcome to Canada! Filmed in November (I presume) and yet both hosts are in shorts and short sleeves. As for community engagement, my go to for "name a card not in the deck" is always Borborygmos Enraged.
Serge talking out the Gifts Split in Game 1 is one of the reasons I never miss an episode of North100 Showdown. I don't really play anymore, but this is the kind of Magic playing I was doing with my pals at the time and it really brings me back.
This was great, I also really enjoyed the game where they both had almost perfect knowledge of each other's hands. It's great seeing how they play around everything
One of my favorite North 100s ever. Something about this matchup (and watching Serge power out some God-tier advantages) was so fun! More Combo, please!
*swallowing the engagement bait hook line and sinker* My Consultation card name is The Cheese Stands Alone. I'm aware that you have to name a card legal in the format (normally a basic land outside of the colours I'm playing)
10000% taking that consultation, especially if you have Daze and Misstep backup. It's very easy for Wheeler to just kind of draw Oracle or a tutor for it and Duress is good at clearing the way for it.
I was commenting about trying the chump block->reanimate snappy line but then Ben pointed it out himself Knowing Serge had shaman in hand to hate on gy, I would have risked it
I'm glad they discussed the play decision around picking up the DRS for the ninja because in the middle of it I couldn't believe it was the right play. But also gotta race to the end and also I don't have nearly the experience these players have.
I was wondering if there was a way to overlay the number of cards in hand. I never noticed it before but in an episode like this knowing the amount of cards in hand feels like it would make a much better viewing experience
I had a bit of a chuckle at Serge having two open mana after Malcolm was bounced right after he was talking about how he knew it had flash but Wheeler was tapped out. As always, was quite entertaining during the work doldrums
Small suggestion for the production crew - showing the points value of pointed cards when they pop up at the start of the episode would be interesting/useful for less-invested viewers!
It not that what he did was wrong (Scry 2, put one on top, one on the bottom, then draw the top card), so much as he wasn't clear what he did. It looked like he scryed 2 and put one on the bottom because he left the other in his hand. He shortcut in a legal fashion but it wasn't clear to Wheeler what actually happened, which is why he asked if Serge drew his card (because he never saw Serge draw after he put the one on the bottom.). Don't do that, it's really easy to accidentally cheat (or appear to cheat) in a real game.
Personally I like to name "Shallow Grave" with 80 cards left in my library for the win and then exile it in the top 6 and lose instantly, but that's just me.
Thanks for the great games, I have a question: Serge knew what combo deck he was facing so he knew what combo pieces to attack, was that a huge advantage or only a bit of an advantage ?
So obviously I can't directly speak for them, but from my own experience people tend to know about the general combo decks of the format and what cards they need to watch for so on average it might give you a tiny bit of advantage for them not to know, but not as much as you think. Being unknown is more important for the decks playing rogue combos that might have less protection or interaction for their win.
Serge, I gotta tell you, I was not a fan of you taking the Demonic Consultation and leaving the Top in his hand. But the fact that you had 2 counterspells to back it up makes me 100% agree with your plays. I would have done it just the same way.
I think you just take Demonic. While there is a lot of pressure to figure out how you get into the late game with Top up, there's time for interaction and decision making to get there. It's not out of the question by T3 that Wheeler just draws into it and wins- and if he does, you'll be kicking yourself for it. Good on Serge, I think that was an optimal choice. That said, Top is incredibly compelling and I'd have taken that if there was some different cards in Wheeler's hand.
I agree Thoracle could be overpointed right now. I keep getting flashbacks to the first Battleground after she got printed, but I'm willing to put it behind me 😭😂
I don't mind watching a combo deck, I actually love combo decks, I just wish we could have cool combo decks that aren't Thoracle. It's simply too straightforward, I want something with a lot of moving pieces and interesting lines of play.
Serge is finally on blue-black ninjas!
The deck should be called "UB Ninja" :D
Again, I really appreaciate you talking about your lines and going through them and even helping each other. This really helps people follow the match without either overexplaining or being too fast.
Oh boy, another episode of the format that I don't play but love to watch!
Thank you for having Thassa, it's great to oracle here
Thassa's for having me, it's oracle to be here.
Thassa for oracling, its great to be consulted.
Something I think I'd enjoy in the future is if the actual point totals of the cards being talked about popped up in the edit when they say what their pointed cards are. Wheeler talked about Thoracle possibly being overpointed and it would have been nice to be able to see what it's currently at.
That would actually be great

I am typically all-in on Big Benny Wheels, but I can't in good conscience root for a Thoracle deck. He lived long enough that he's become the villain.
Ben has always been the villen, he is the hill
My Demonic Consultation card is You Are Already Dead, for optimal meme equity.
VERY GOOD
I’m a Sloppity Bilepiper man myself 😂
Ad Nauseum is also enjoyable.
Personally I’m more of an “Ach, Hans run!” Kind of guy
If my friends are particularly annoyed by me playing Thoracle combo, I like to name "nerd rage" to rub it in a little
"You are already dead" is always a peak one to name. My CEDH pod has players that are fond of "Black Lotus" or, for the real bit "Bird Maiden"
Abandon hope is good (1st card alphabetically) or if you want to be picky, +2 Mace
One with Nothing is an old standby of mine
Abandon hope, You are already dead, witness the end, or for the real obscure joke: borborygmos enraged
Phenomenal series of games, great plays from both sides and Serge repping some incredible plays from his tempo list, enjoyed this over his UW version.
FYI, since this video was filmed Thassa’s Oracle was decreased from 7 to 6
My lunch just started, and this is posted in seconds?? Thank you for making my workday that much easier 😊
Lunch bros let's go!
Welcome to Canada! Filmed in November (I presume) and yet both hosts are in shorts and short sleeves. As for community engagement, my go to for "name a card not in the deck" is always Borborygmos Enraged.
Do you have non-Enraged Borborygmos in it for the extra meme?
I figure it was probably filmed at least 2 months ago. They film a bunch of games all in one day then release them over time.
You talking about your thoughts, lines and games realy makes north 100 shouwdown stand out for me.
Serge talking out the Gifts Split in Game 1 is one of the reasons I never miss an episode of North100 Showdown. I don't really play anymore, but this is the kind of Magic playing I was doing with my pals at the time and it really brings me back.
Another fun Demonic Consultation target is "You are Already Dead"
This was great, I also really enjoyed the game where they both had almost perfect knowledge of each other's hands. It's great seeing how they play around everything
22:53 wheeler flashing his hand to the camera like a pro
He had a good poker face too, that hand was so close to doing it
Combo in a meta is like Grapplers in a fighting game - they've gotta be there to tip the scales, but they can't be too strong or they take over
I recently lost to UB Tempo. And I recently built UR Tempo. And I'm truly Jank at heart so mark my words 2025 is the year of Grixis Faerie Tempo.
*FBI wants to know your location*
One of my favorite North 100s ever. Something about this matchup (and watching Serge power out some God-tier advantages) was so fun! More Combo, please!
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
I really love this show. Nothing better on a Wednesday.
Delightful as always !
Wheeler: "I am the devil"
Me: "From the bible!!?!??!"
When are you going to finish your last shandilar run Benjamin?
Serge has the exact point spread I used to run in UB tempo for years - I think I'd probably slot in strip over maybe Dig or Drain these days.
*swallowing the engagement bait hook line and sinker*
My Consultation card name is The Cheese Stands Alone. I'm aware that you have to name a card legal in the format (normally a basic land outside of the colours I'm playing)
You could name Barren Glory, since that's basically the same card as the cheese
@@Halinn I could, but it doesn't have a funny name
@@irt3hsaint Think of it as meta-humor
I dunno why, but Paul looking at the clock and wondering why the were still playing at 35:30 just kind of cracks me up 😂
Thank god, I needed this today.
I name Pot of Greed with Demonic Consultation
Five of Spades
North 100 Showdown has me pounding the desk at my local LGS to get Canlander going.
Thanks for the games gents! was a very interesting match to watch!
my go-to "name a card" that doesn't matter is always Borborygmos, not Borborygmos Enraged
The go to Consultation/Pact card name is “HOT SOUP!”
I will always stop what I'm doing to watch new episodes of north 100 showdown.
I am here in Europe with weather around 3 degrees and then you are in your shorts, oh man the dream
Thanks for throwing its great to down here
I hadn't heard of Flood Moon as a nickname and I absolutely love it!!!!
10000% taking that consultation, especially if you have Daze and Misstep backup. It's very easy for Wheeler to just kind of draw Oracle or a tutor for it and Duress is good at clearing the way for it.

God DAMN I love matchups like this.

Not going to lie, I'm cheering against thoracle every time
I was wondering if there was a way to overlay the number of cards in hand.
My demonic consultation card is "Colossal Dreadmaw", just in case one has managed to sneak into my deck
The last time I was this early was never. Happy throwdownday
The Jazz hands!! I get those every time I play as a combo deck
Small suggestion for the production crew - showing the points value of pointed cards when they pop up at the start of the episode would be interesting/useful for less-invested viewers!
I was never sure if you could name illegal cards with Demonic Consultation, so I'd always go for "Ach! Hans, Run!"
Can someone explain to me what the issue was with the searing vision/preordain thing?
From a newbie, what Serge did seemed to make sense.
It not that what he did was wrong (Scry 2, put one on top, one on the bottom, then draw the top card), so much as he wasn't clear what he did. It looked like he scryed 2 and put one on the bottom because he left the other in his hand. Don't do that, it's really easy to accidentally cheat (or appear to cheat) in a real game.
This show really makes me want to play canlander but my area is not into it
The best Consultation card is objectively Humility. Just being able to say "my deck has NO humility in it" is so funny
Personally I like to name "Shallow Grave" with 80 cards left in my library for the win and then exile it in the top 6 and lose instantly, but that's just me.
Thanks for the great games,

I haven't watched every episode but I think this is the first time I've seen wheeler lose. GGs serge!
Eliot 2-0
Hunted Wumpus is one of my favourite cards! No-ice.
In game 1 did Ben forget that Cling to Dust can gain life?
Is this the first time that Serge has beaten Wheeler on N100S?
No, he's won a few times. Most gloriously, imo, with Cursepox vs Martyr Proc
Thassa’s oracle go-to is “You Are Already Dead” from NEO
Serge, I gotta tell you, I was not a fan of you taking the Demonic Consultation and leaving the Top in his hand. But the fact that you had 2 counterspells to back it up makes me 100% agree with your plays. I would have done it just the same way.
One with nothing is my favourite consultation name, closely followed by bouncing beebles
will there be a Foundations set review from North 100?
Yup, already recorded iirc.
Nice grimy games, I loved it.
more ninjas than the ninja deck :P
I think you just take Demonic. While there is a lot of pressure to figure out how you get into the late game with Top up, there's time for interaction and decision making to get there. Farewell is my D. Consultation card. I may win or lose at that point, eitherway I'm out of the game...
cool games: I wish I had the money to play this format but also the playgoup. There was a event at my lgs a few weeks ago but almost no one came.
My Consultation name is Island Fish Jasconius (or something like Pithing Needle/Slaughter Games for the meme)
Hyped!
I usually name Goblin Charbelcher with Consult. It's less funny with belcher being good in modern now
My named card for thoracle is "You are already dead" from Neon Dynasty. Seems fitting lol
Here is your Vorthos Seal of Approval.
Can i name Gleemax in tournament magic?
My Demonic Consultation card would be "You are already dead", but I'd be hugely obnoxious and say "Omae ma wu, shinderu".
It felt so weird to be cheering for Serge as our hero after those 2 first turns. Then, as a UB player, he was our savior
I would've given wheeler the whole combo. His plan never accounts for it. That sets up a potential win for serge.
Left side of the table lost the die roll? Who are you, and what have you done with North 100 Showdown?!
Maybe the table got put back the wrong way round after Desert Bus.
Worth playing Mesa for a shuffle effect in play
The only group that could make me like Thoracle.
Usually naming Demonic Consultation for Demonic Consultation.
Well, knowing about the DAZE you had in hand, indeed I wouldn't have made him discard Top.
I like naming ancestral recall for my demonic consultations.
I agree Thoracle could be overpointed right now. I keep getting flashbacks to the first Battleground after she got printed, but I'm willing to put it behind me 😭😂
I'd name "You are already dead." With consultation.
my Consultation card is "Fear of Death"
Serge is turning heel. Joker era.
Wheeler is a cutie. Serge is so handsome. Paul is always welcome in any N100
my thoracle name is the german coral trickster ( korallenschlawiener) or german pestermite (trietzknilch) both are very funny names in german
My go-to Demonic Consultation card is Uktabi Orangutan🐒
I know that demonic consultation card !
i consult demons for shahrazad, usually
Oh yeah it's fallen Shinobi time 🎉
My Demonic Consultation names are You Are Already Dead or Go Hog Wild!
My Consultation card is Impending Doom
Hi. Leaving a comment about what a cutie Wheeler is. Algorithmic encouragement complete. Unpause video.
My thoracle card is „You‘re already dead“
I Demonic Consultation for Totally Lost.
I don't mind watching a combo deck, I actually love combo decks, I just wish we could have cool combo decks that aren't Thoracle. It's simply too straightforward, I want something with a lot of moving pieces and interesting lines of play.
hooray for legal deck lists
Not sure I agree with combo being an important part of a format's metagame.
My D.Con card is usually You're Already Dead
