This song always makes me full of joy. It's so dreamy. I'm happy to see it has the same effect on you. BTW recently I've been listening to Milène Farmer. You will love her.
I love their covers of "Don't Dream It's Over" and "There She Goes." Leigh Nash has such a pure and clean tone to her singing, she makes good songs even better.
I love that you are reacting to this song. It's one of the most beautiful songs of the '90s; and it was actually the most played song on UK radio in 1999.
This song, for me, is pure child-like innocence. Friends playing together, walking through fields, exploring with a hand-drawn map, swinging on a tire swing. It feels like home.
Did you catch that the guitar break follows a traditional melody of wedding bells? It's quite a subliminal hook. The use of the small squeezebox invokes a wistful feeling, rather like an ocarina or melodica played by a child. And, oh my, yes, beyond her considerable vocal skills she is greatly gifted with a remarkable timbre.
At the time that album came out, it was one of the few that I thought could hold its own against any band. Their bassist at the time J.J. Plasencio, was amazing.
My favourite album of all time. Steven Wilson's Hand. Cannot. Erase. almost took its top spot for me... for five minutes of consideration. TBM will always be #1.
Just watching you dancing along and having a great time was more than worth the watch, let alone the review. Really enjoying all your reactions and AMAZING original music. Look forward to more. 🎄❄❄MERRY CHRISTMAS !!❄❄🎄
If I had to describe this song in one word, I would say pretty. It's a pretty song. It's light and refreshing. It feels like a really nice day in spring or autumn when you're outside in a meadow or a field with no shoes on.
This song was actually written and recorded while the band was trying to get out of a previous record deal. Their producer secretly paid for a studio using a credit card to record the album while they negotiated out of their contract. The producer even formed a record label just for them after they were free from their contract. It wasn't the label or the producer who was hesitant of this song being included on the album. It was the band themselves.
Whimsical yet poignant. Love your enthusiasm in this one. Also I just received my signed vinyl so yay me! The little thankyou card was a sweet touch too :) Merry Christmas!
Always loved this song in the 90s. It was light and dreamy not overly sweet and sugary. It just flowed along and drifted you away to calmness. It made the made you were heading into lighter brighter and better. I love hearing it now days as it reminds me of my soulmate and the fun we used to have back then when I had life all around me. The joy of living was just being in the day with her. I miss her.
One of my very favorite songs from the 90's. Came out right at the time of my divorce and helped lift my spirit. Leigh Nash is so adorable, and her voice matches her looks. They also did "There She Goes" for the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer with Mike Meyers. Another song from the time is "Drops of Jupiter" by Train which I highly suggest.
"There She Goes" is actually from 1990 and is by _The La's_ *So I Married an Axe Murderer* used both the original and a cover by _The Boo Radleys_ and came out in 93. I like _Sixpence None the Richer's_ cover, but it was released in 99 - so it definitely wasn't in the movie!
Leigh Nash did a couple of duets with Marc Martel, who did the vocals for the Bohemian Rhapsody film. One of their duets was Dreams (Cranberries), a tribute to Dolores O'Riordan. The other was a Christmas song, Welcome to our World. Marc is also an incredible talent that doesn't get all the attention he should. He does almost all the Queen songs (sung with a few tribute bands, in particular Roger Taylor's official tribute band), tons of Christmas music, other covers and his own original songs.
Leigh Nash is amazing and has been criminally underrated her whole career. From Sixpence None the Richer, to worship albums, to my favorite album: Blue on Blue. I would love to hear you react to nearly any song on Blue on Blue. Great job!
@@StanleyBps yes. Some of her newer songs aren't this same style. She did an excellent cover of Dolly's 'Hard Candy Christmas'. The band eventually settled in Nashville.
Leigh Nash's voice is so lovely and soothing. She has a RUclips channel, she seems like a beautiful soul. The whole album this song is from is so good.
Wow, I'm so lucky to have bumped into this reaction video of yours. This is a catchy tone that I've always remembered, but never knew it was first from this band, as it has been widely covered by a ton of artists I believe. I heard it from a Hongkongnese singer named 彭羚 in one of her Catonese albums. It's splendid to finally hear the original version.
I remember back in the mid 90’s when Radio 1s Chris Moyles championed the heck out of this song so much that it hit the top of the charts. They were unheard of in the UK before that time..❤
I leave the country for work for 2 months and I wake up, jetlagged somewhere in Canada on this fine leap year of the 29th of 24 and we're fawning over Leigh Nash vocals on a tier list of 90's babe vocals. ok, I'm down.
Pure pop heaven. Syrup sweetness than never gets old but feels so genuine. This and Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever"... I'm such a sucker for these sentimental tunes and angelic voices. And I'm a fan of an things NOT pop! But we all have our soft spots. This song reminds me of when my oldest daughter was a little girl (she was 7 when this song came out) and in picture her twirling and dancing in circles and signing along with this song.
One of my favorite songs from the 90's. They have a La Las cover that I also loved. Reminds me of someone I nearly married. Music is so powerful in transporting our minds to another time.
SNTR co-founder, Matt Slocum wrote this song as a tribute to his wife. It was almost immediate that they found out that this song needed to be sung by a female. What really makes this song work is the 12-string guitar (Matt) and that Paris sidewalk cafe accordion sound. Leigh Nash has limited depth and range but she does pick songs that are well within her range. Another component of this production is that Leigh does her own backing vocals with an echo-like effect. When she hits the bridge, she stretches out the word "oh" as a hook to set up the bridge lyrics. The lyrics are so descriptive that a blind man could listen to this song and visualize everything that is going on: Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Beth, it was nice to see your visual reaction to this song.
Drifting calm love for this song. Happy warm fuzzies. I heard them live once; her voice is even clearer in person - absolutely stop you in your tracks to just listen. (They do a solid grungy version of You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch, too).
Just an FYI, people like me have never seen any of those movies. We have however heard this song and fell in love with it. imho her voice is enchanting.
I saw them live in a church in Columbus, Ohio back in 199? as a teenager. Their best album was This Beautiful Mess. I'm an atheist now, but I still love this band.
Nice reaction, Beth. Fun fact: Lead singer Leigh Nash was actually offering vocal lessons / coaching for a while there (mid-2000's?) 😊 I first saw them play live in Kansas City - March / April '99 - right when this song was rocketing to the top of the charts. So of course when they played it, the place went bananas! It felt like we were the center of the universe. The gig was in the basement of an old stone church, and Sixpence blew the roof off later when the band took over and jammed hard to some of their older, less "cute" material. (if you know, you know) Cheers!
Leigh and Matt Slocum were the backbone of the band. Matt also played the cello. They had a lot of other good songs that got overshadowed by this monster hit.
Sixpence's album *Divine Discontent,* which includes their cover of Crowded House's *Don’t Dream It’s Over,* is outstanding and criminally underappreciated. ruclips.net/p/OLAK5uy_m8vOcyTHgAo9oKS-pm43j4X22ChbeRw2Q
One of these band members left the band and ended up as my high school math teacher. We always played this song at every school dance and he would get super embarrassed.
Very Johnny Marr/The Smiths sound to the guitar riff and the rhythm section with the bass line. A slightly American college sounding Smiths song. Nice reaction!
I have always associated this song with "Good Night, Moon,"by Shivaree. I hear a similarity in the lead singers' voices, and the general feel of the songs.

There is a good reason that Bill Leeb & Rhys Fulber of Delerium (and Front Line Assembly) chose Leigh Nash - along with other exceptional female vocalists - for more than one guest lyric/vocal collaboration. Delerium features many wonderful guest vocalists. Emily Haines (Metric) has a similar quality to Nash. Sarah McLachlan was the most notable, on "Silence". But the most enduring and amazing is Kristy Thirsk!
Elvis, Merry Christmas. You've been gone a long time, we still love you. And no, I'm not talking about Elvis Presley. Trust me, you don't know him. But you'd be better if you had.
I actually made out on a park bench with a girl & someone in the area was blasting this out of there car it was one of the most Romantic experiences I've had in life 😂 I honestly feel bad people who have never experienced true romance.
