yup, I agree 1000% it's absurd and truly the government holds the key to everything! Congress determines our pay, residency slots, and student loan forgiveness programs. Hoping for some change in the future
For all you sneaky people who love knowing how much money people make as well as to break the stigma of talking about money here we go! How much money do you make?
I’ve been thinking seriously about doing a career change and turning my academic career around and going for medical school. But I’m already about to turn 28..
You should go for it! It is never too late! A year or so ago we had a med student who was 41 and she would graduate med school at the same time her daughter was graduating nursing school
Hi, amazing video💕 I wanted to ask if you're an employee in a hospital or a resident you get fixed income monthly right? Regardless of how many surgeries you've done in a month?
Yes as a resident we have a fixed salary so it does not depend on how much you produce. When you become an attending your salary it will depend on your contract.
Hey Jani, can you please tell me if you also pay for malpractice insurance? I was reading on Google that Obstetricians pay the highest amount. So could you please shed a little light on that? Thankyou
hi please does the 80hrs include calls or calls are calculated outside the 80 hrs. because 80 hrs means at least 10hr shift for 7 days . thank you for sharing am an img aspiring to be an obgyn MD God willing.
The 80 hrs does include calls but there’s a LOT of random regulations like no more than 28 hrs straight including documentation time, 1 day off every week averaged over 4 weeks, etc
No overtime because its a fixed salary and the hours depend. Per ACGME we are limited to 80 hours per week averaged over 4 weeks. Most of the time we end up working around 60-70 hours.
@JaniVMD can you write in brief please the timeline? So four years bsc, then 4 years medical school and you'll need to take loans or scholarships, then how many years residency or fellowship? I don't know the difference? Given the residency income like u stated was almost $50000 for three years? So after 11-12 years you immediately start earning $180-300??? With the insurance being deducted and taxes etc is it all worth it vs having a bsc in computer science and starting at lets say $80000/year? Appreciate your opinion.
@@krazykara1327 residency is anywhere from 3-6 years on average depending on specialties. The comparison is hard to make because it will be personal. If you want to have more earning years then not going for medical training makes sense. I would not look at going into medicine for the money.
@JaniVMD first, thx for getting back to me. Second, what do you mean if not looking to earn more then don't go for medical training? Isn't that compulsary?? If it's not, then what are the career choices from there after 4years bsc and 4 years medical school only? I understand the goal is not the money and got to have the passion and desire etc.. this comes at a price though which needs to be known ahead of time with the end goal in mind. Really appreciate your video. Waiting your reply.
Also, can you tell us about the match process in brief? What happens when you dream to wanting to be a pediatrician for example but you are instead matched as an internist? What's the criteria for the match?
Hi mam,I am a student from India. I will be starting my medical school from next year.my dream is to complete my medical school from here and then do post graduation and other higher studies in cardiology from usa.i want to give usmle.i really like your videos mam.i don't know, being an img,I really can make it or not.but I really really desire to go there.
Not really. Most of the cost of procedures goes to the hospital or institution as well as insurance. Doctors don’t usually get earnings from procedures, they get paid after the fact with the remainder after all other costs are covered. For example: if you get an MRI that cost 10k, probably more than 90% of that goes to the hospital or center from there they pay their bills, they cover the cost of the contrast, they pay the techs and staff that run the machine, and the. They pay the radiologist who reads it. Same for a surgery like a cesarean section: if you get a surgery that costs 5k the first thing is the hospital or surgery center takes their take which is most of that, from there they cover their expenses, equipment, cleaning of the instruments, they pay the nurses that took care of you, and the obgy gets maybe 500-1000 from that if they are employed by the hospital. If they are working through a practice the. The practice takes their part from the physicians cut and then they get paid. This is a very simple way to explain that. But this article goes more into how the system actually works: www.forbes.com/sites/jeffgorke/2019/02/25/my-doctor-makes-what-how-physicians-are-paid/?sh=1973f2b51913

Residents get paid disgustingly little for the number of hours you work, the education you have, and the debt you hold.
