I have not seen a Mitsubishi Starion out in the wild in decades. I am so happy to hear that this one is still out running around, they are really cool cars.
This is one of the best Starions out there. Most of you have no idea what this car used to look like or be. The work Mike has put in is inspirational. I personally own a Starion and the stock brakes really aren't bad at all. Overall this car is amazing and the people complaining about the brakes don't even know how to change brake pads.
lol how am I selling the community short? This car has so much dedication and time in it. I remember you from the forums. You only like stock ones and think this is rice.
Logan Manning and you're apparently a fanboy. There are much nicer and well executed nodded ones. Plastidip, spacers, fartcan, stickers, poorly executed interiors.....aren't my idea of best. I've told potato face this several times.
Man oh man, a Starion always makes me think of Jackie Chan and Richard Kiel driving the gadget-laden 1983 Starion Turbo in Cannonball Run 2. Love that movie!
I was lightly trying to keep up with one of these tuner built in my stock 93 tbird SC without getting into trouble late at night and he just walked away in a serious way. The fat rear meats and the racing fuel put a smile on my face
80's mistubishi reliability. I'm not sure about how good the chassis is but there is a reason why these don't exist outside of the hardcore enthusiast circle.
Mikie Sorrell... Props to you sir. You have combined one of the coolest (in my opinion) Mitsubishis, other than 1G DSMs, with one of the best (in my opinion) Toyota engines ever built. Genius. This is coming from a Ford/BMW guy.
maxxjett films I love them too, I had an 88 Conquest turbo.. And was crushed when someone totaled it. I've seen some 4G, and LS swaps.. But this 1jz seems like a great balance... And remember "it makes all the right sounds"..
B4 every1 shits on the guy 4 having stock brakes and a squared tire setup Matt did say this was a street car he probably doesn't track it. He probably just pulls on cars on the freeway as a sleeper and stock brakes are probably good enough for that even tho I'd feel more comfortable with upgraded tires and brakes either way pretty fkn nice build
Matt, I love that you're driving all the cars I had drooled over in other youtube videos and giving them a review. I have always been partial to square body cars of the 80's primarily. Especially Supra Celica/ RX7/ Starions and of course the lightweight rwd corollas. All these early imports are making me really miss my 1st gen eclipse gsx. In a lot of ways I miss it, but I got rid of it before I had to replace the trans again due to a cracked housing the first time around. I managed to drive the car around 150k total and made around 350 whp reliably for the most part, if you don't cound trans issues from time to time, and motor mounts never holding up. I finally ended up making my own mounts with the liquid rubber (eurethane) I spellled that wrong, but ya. Anyways I come here and watch videos of older imports to get my fix so I don't go and make a stupid purchase that mt bank account will not like lol.
thomascampr now now. I personally love johns car. But I've seen the amount of work he put into it. He makes every part for the car. Including the over fenders.
Thank you Matt for showcasing two of these wonderful star eons. Such an overlooked part of performance past I've had mine for 20 two years. Just love it not the fastest not the most reliable but the apple of my eye
Saw this thing at Import Alliance this year. Apparently it's been around in many iterations for quite some time now. Had a few magazine features and what not. Looked amazing and was so very clean. Awesome to see it get a One Take!
I remember seeing this car on SpooledUpTv's channel, the owner is super cool. The Starion did great for what it brought to the track... Ya of course it could've done better with bigger brakes an better tires, but its a street car, with brake performance from the 80's. I can't wait to work on mine I just bought... Might go 1jz as well, if not 4G63. An it was this car that gave me the drive to do what I plan on doing.
I saw my neighbor driving one of these. I thought it was an FC RX-7 until I got to looking at it a little closer. I’ll be honest I didn’t even know these cars had existed lol. Sweet ride man!! She’s definitely a ripper!!
Love your car. One of my favorite cars, one of my favorite engines. While the video would have been better if you had known Matt was going to drive your car. Your swap is super-clean and runs well. As a general rule: If you don't like this guys DAILY, you don't like cars. No one needs you.
My dad had 2 starrions when i was a kid , 1st had oil cooled turbo and 2nd had a intercooler. Love those cars and the stock wheels still look sick today, and the stock motors have alot of potential. I'd love to own one, a nice one runs about 10k +
Super cool seeing a once-local car on here. Good job with it Mikie! And just for the record, I just installed the Wilwood 4 Piston brakes on the front of my Fit, and they're worth the money! Mine just didn't cost as much, haha.
As a former owner of a Starion set up to autocross, I'll say the brakes work better on the street than you'd think. It's was the fastest Japanese car of its time so the brakes were decent.
Starioms really were a, remarkable car of the early 80’s. In fact they were renowned back in the day for their makes. The stock two litre turbo in the JA I had in Australai. Didn't deliver enough low end out of the hole torque so the tubos were always raced for boost and I had three raptor rebuilt and up spaced with a Mocro Tech racing computer. When I destroyed them forth 2 litre engine, or was time to get a front cur from Japan and insert a Nossam V6 three litre turbo. That was Mitsubishi should have done from the get go, two more was not enough cubes, for such a brilliant balanced sports car with a heavy curb weight. Abiet very fast and able undermboost, not so much off the mark. I loved my Starion through all its incarnations throughout the 1980’ and 1990’s, parts eventually became impossible to source. A station with a bog ass bog torque and KW with a twin turbo, makes a retro weapon that is magic. Loved your video, AGrade👍🇦🇺
I'm not a huge 80s fan, but this thing looks fantastic ! As for the brake discussion, I'm German and that kind of power might require an upgrade over here; for US style driving and speed limits, it should be fine .
Owned a Starion about 20 years ago. Completely stock but fun little cars, regret to this day i ever sold it. Hard to find a good one in europe these days....
Man, I've always had a soft spot for the Starion/Conquest platform. I'm not sure why, really, as I only remember riding in one once or twice. I've always liked 'different', I guess. Nice build. Nice to see it mildly tracked. Looks like it would be an excellent track day car with a bit more tuning...
Matt, Like jons car, this car is far from stock, but its also clearly not a track car like jons. Both cars are pretty awesome though, and there are others out there that are just as awesome that you might like too. 30 years ago these cars were pretty quick, but in stock form, can not keep up with modern cars. I recommend trying one with the original motor, and some gentle mods, and one is stock form to get a better idea of what these cars are like.
black98rt I bought an 84 Supra back in 93 because I couldn't afford a Conquest let alone find one near me for sale. But I always thought the 2g Supra from 83-85 resembled the Starion and Conquest. All three were beautiful cars.
@mikie sorrell, nice build and best of luck to you with keeping that cool looking car in shape as I imagine its not easy finding parts for it these days.
Always loved these things! Problem is parts. My buddy had a conquest and I was going to buy it but he warned me of the parts deal (real friend). Anyway badass build!!!! I'm jealous!!!!!
Bunch of comments on stock brakes being stupid on a modified car...If you drive it within reason on the street, you will not reach speeds that the stock brakes were not intended for. A 3000 lbs vehicle at X speed has the same kinetic energy to disperse as heat no matter what amount of time the car spent reaching said speed. Upgraded brakes are for spirited, continuous illegal speeds or racetrack and most often only provide extended capibility (more brake mass to absorb the heat) rather than more stopping power. The limit to braking is always the contact patch on the road, i.e the TIRES.
I remember seeing this car sit at my hometowns autozone all the time and didn’t think anything of it because I never heard it running turns out it’s a sleeper glad I never tried him lol
Brakes?! You don't need no stinking brakes to go fast ! 😂 ! Took a friend's truck (F-150 with the 300-6) out in a snowstorm to do snow removal, and discovered that it had 1&1/2 working brakes on it,no muffler, one headlight and most annoying, one working windshield wiper. .... white knuckles in a whiteout...boss says, just pump the brakes alot !
I have not seen a Mitsubishi Starion out in the wild in decades. I am so happy to hear that this one is still out running around, they are really cool cars.
brian5o I saw one in my neighborhood. Absolutely beautiful condition. I didn't know what it was until I read the badging and fell in love immediately.
Seen a few in west TX. They’re great looking
私は日本人です‼️初めまして‼️スタリオンを3台、違う色のを所有してますが、スタリオンは最高‼️こんなに最高な車は、ありません‼️❤❤❤
This is one of the best Starions out there. Most of you have no idea what this car used to look like or be. The work Mike has put in is inspirational. I personally own a Starion and the stock brakes really aren't bad at all. Overall this car is amazing and the people complaining about the brakes don't even know how to change brake pads.
Logan Manning actually it's not one of the best. Not even close, you saying so is selling the Starion/Conquest community short.
lol how am I selling the community short? This car has so much dedication and time in it. I remember you from the forums. You only like stock ones and think this is rice.
Logan Manning and you're apparently a fanboy. There are much nicer and well executed nodded ones. Plastidip, spacers, fartcan, stickers, poorly executed interiors.....aren't my idea of best. I've told potato face this several times.
Logan Manning don't mind flav. He just bitches cause his is slow.
Yea i didnt even know mikey car was on this show thats badass
1,000,001 reasons why he didn't spend money on upgraded brakes
None of them matter. That's a hell of a car! Keep em coming Matt.
Dark Star 👍🏼
One of my first car crushes growing up. Still looks pretty decent.
I still love Conquests/Starions after all these years. Bought my first in high school (decades ago). Need to find another one some day.
Man I love that it has the original wheels. I had a red one back in the 90s and I wish I'd kept it.
If ever there was a car that really suited a 1JZ conversion it is that car. That thing looks and sounds awesome.
svvitchio thanks.
To be honest I'm kind of glad the car Community is discovering this car albeit 25 years later.. I just hope you all don't jack the price up too much
Man oh man, a Starion always makes me think of Jackie Chan and Richard Kiel driving the gadget-laden 1983 Starion Turbo in Cannonball Run 2. Love that movie!
I was lightly trying to keep up with one of these tuner built in my stock 93 tbird SC without getting into trouble late at night and he just walked away in a serious way. The fat rear meats and the racing fuel put a smile on my face
I truly respect the people who still build & drive these cars as I wish I had the time to do it.
The looks of that Car will never go out of style, it was ahead of its time.
These Starions look so tough why are they not more popular?
80's mistubishi reliability. I'm not sure about how good the chassis is but there is a reason why these don't exist outside of the hardcore enthusiast circle.
they are good platforms to build on by swapping a 4g63 in them or many other engines but its a mitsubishi so the typical jdm fan boys over look it
True; But all the 80's car of this era had reliability problems. I agree above, these cars were pretty cool back in the day. They still look cool!
Nobody makes aftermarket shit for them. You have to do a lot of custom work if you want to do a lot with them.
I don't think they sold many in the U.S. Too bad really, I've always thought they were one of the coolest looking cars from 1980's Japan.
Man that's a really clean and cool build. Well done
traskalle thanks!
I remember seeing this car on facebook, like 2 years ago doing a dyno pull. I love the boxiness of the Starion
450whp = more mild build... I love this channel sometimes.
Mild for the engine it has lol
Getting more soon! ☺️
Mikie Sorrell dude I applaud you on this build, not much away from being a full track package! Looks are killer and that 1jz sounds ORGASMIC 🤤
I agree all these huge HP numbers is really useless on the street.
It's like all these guys are trying to compensate for a small penis.
DIRT over Tarmac thanks man. I appreciate it!
Mikie Sorrell... Props to you sir. You have combined one of the coolest (in my opinion) Mitsubishis, other than 1G DSMs, with one of the best (in my opinion) Toyota engines ever built. Genius.
This is coming from a Ford/BMW guy.
I love these cars! Wish I saw more driving around, they are so cool!
yeah they are. this video makes me want one so bad
buy one! i have 2 ^^
If i had the money and could find one. So you like yours a lot?
maxxjett films I love them too, I had an 88 Conquest turbo.. And was crushed when someone totaled it. I've seen some 4G, and LS swaps.. But this 1jz seems like a great balance... And remember "it makes all the right sounds"..
nathan Field can I have one you don't need 2 lol 😂
Matt must love it when the UPS truck pulls away after a delivery.
"Wait, wait! Shhh!"
People underestimate Mitsubishi's... these older models are gold mines, always loved them
Good to see some love for the 1JZ
I'm very happy with the amount of strarquest appearing on youtube all of the sudden.
Mike Arredondo hey! You get it! Glad someone understands!
you gotta know how to spell "brakes" to be taken seriously
wastegate there u go ur comment is now irrelevant
Then he should've filmed this thing on the road.
Stock brakes on a Starion\Conquest are pretty good for stock.
Matt, I love that you're driving all the cars I had drooled over in other youtube videos and giving them a review. I have always been partial to square body cars of the 80's primarily. Great build - Love how the Starion looks and 1JZ swap is perfect combo.
LOVE that he kept the exterior stock. Wheels and all. MUCH better than that gutted station a few weeks ago
thomascampr now now. I personally love johns car. But I've seen the amount of work he put into it. He makes every part for the car. Including the over fenders.
I'm always so impressed with your ability to jump into a strange car for the first time, drive on the track, and talk in complete sentences!
Thank you Matt for showcasing two of these wonderful star eons. Such an overlooked part of performance past I've had mine for 20 two years. Just love it not the fastest not the most reliable but the apple of my eye
That was awesome. I laughed out loud as I thought about what he would say about my 2008 maxima surviving 1 lap.
We road raced the 88&89 scca starions a car way ahead of there time but needed an intercooler and oil cooler and water cooled turbo.
I always loved that body style.
I get so excited to see unique proper builds like this one. Good Job and sweet review on track also!
One of the most beautifully 80's cars of all time! Now Matt has to do a stock one and he's golden!
ftffighter I've offered up mine to Matt
Saw this thing at Import Alliance this year. Apparently it's been around in many iterations for quite some time now. Had a few magazine features and what not. Looked amazing and was so very clean. Awesome to see it get a One Take!
Br1ckDaddy thanks man! I get the car out and about when I can!
After all these years I still love that car
I remember seeing this car on SpooledUpTv's channel, the owner is super cool. The Starion did great for what it brought to the track... this has to be one of the best sounding engines of all time
Love this Starion! The stock exterior look is amazing & with the engine makes it 100x better. Kudos to you sir if you see this comment!
Love your car. One of my favorite cars, one of my favorite engines. While the video would have been better if you had known Matt was going to drive your car. Your swap is super-clean and runs well. As a general rule: If you don't like this guys DAILY, you don't like cars. No one needs you.
Mike Haskell 👍🏼
Super hyped just watching this icon masterpiece hit the track.
Car could have a BBK and people would still find something to bitch about. Personally, the car is badass. Stock brakes or not.
Austin Akens thanks man. They work great on the street. Not had an issue in 10 years.
Note whe the Fitts passed him up.,,is it me or those were Miatas
@@adounkhamsouk1802 nope those were fiat 124's. based on the miata though..
What a cool car, don't see many of these in the UK, well done to the guy that built it.
As 80's cars go, these have aged alright!
Woah, this one is so cleanly put together!
Saw this on Super Street fell in love instantly
Nothing better than the sound of a 1JZ
I idolized this car as a teen, best OEM wheels ever made, glad he ketp them.
My dad had 2 starrions when i was a kid , 1st had oil cooled turbo and 2nd had a intercooler. Love those cars and the stock wheels still look sick today, and the stock motors have alot of potential. I'd love to own one, a nice one runs about 10k +
I Love This Car! Great conversion! Respect to the owner for keeping the old school alive 👌👍😍
Trend Asset Management thanks!
Thats an awesome clean street car. Am sure its a work in progress but its gone a lot further than most will get. Clean body and great engine.
This is my favorite car just love the looks and style
Super cool seeing a once-local car on here. Good job with it Mikie! And just for the record, I just installed the Wilwood 4 Piston brakes on the front of my Fit, and they're worth the money! Mine just didn't cost as much, haha.
Definately the best car up to date
I didn't even watch the video yet and I liked it. Starion!!!!!!!!
Got to be some of the best looking standard fit alloy wheels on a car ever.
How many times we got to hear about breaks?? You knew what you were diving. Mike has one of the better set ups of all our cars.
1jz swaps are my favorite swaps!
This car looks soo good
As a former owner of a Starion set up to autocross, I'll say the brakes work better on the street than you'd think. It's was the fastest Japanese car of its time so the brakes were decent.
1JZ/2JZ is up there with epic sounding engines - Rotary, Boxer
Fuck yeah. Dont forget the RB's.
Starioms really were a, remarkable car of the early 80’s. In fact they were renowned back in the day for their makes.

A station with a bog ass bog torque and KW with a twin turbo, makes a retro weapon that is magic.
Loved your video, AGrade👍🇦🇺
I wish they made a couple thousand more today. These things are awesome looking
I had an '88. These are really cool cars! Only real issue, they are HEAVY!!! Lose the bumpers, gut the doors. etc.
I'm not a huge 80s fan, but this thing looks fantastic !
As for the brake discussion, I'm German and that kind of power might require an upgrade over here; for US style driving and speed limits, it should be fine .
Starions are so retro cool looking
Owned a Starion about 20 years ago. Completely stock but fun little cars, regret to this day i ever sold it. Hard to find a good one in europe these days....
Ya buddy! Representing MT with my 1jz Conquest!
I love those old Starions. 400 whp is badass...
Always loved the look of those cars.
What are the coincidence that this video shows up the same time my dad's starion is being built with a 1jz.. crazy .. race day literally Oct 1st..
Fookin perfect idk why they didn't come with a bigger mits engine
Yeah first series v6 basic with air pump charger.like mini blower after certain spots in throttle. It would be cool
I love the boxy look this car have, great build!
Long live the SQ!! Congrats, Mike! Next mod is brakes and tires...lol
Matt, Like jons car, this car is far from stock, but its also clearly not a track car like jons. the sound makes this vid
Nice. This thing was in S3 Mag (BEST TUNER MAGAZINE OUT)
Lilreeces10 yes sir!
Hoodie flapping in the back, super Matt!
Those cars and the Chrysler Conquest will always be one of my favorite looking cars.
black98rt I bought an 84 Supra back in 93 because I couldn't afford a Conquest let alone find one near me for sale.
Yet again, that engine sounds fucking amazing.
That engine bay made me drool on myself👍👍👍👍👍👍
that looks really fun car
Very clean looking ride , damn
boy does it make all the right sounds! x5
Really digging the track one takes
Each time I see a jz I always love it. Those sounds, mmmm
Such a cool car.
I think it makes all the right sounds
Brakes and tires man by god thats step one.... A whole new meaning to "all-motor" lol
スタリオンを3台所有してますが、スタリオンは最高です‼️ここまで最高な車は、ありません‼️❤❤❤❤
I remember seeing this car sit at my hometowns autozone all the time and didn’t think anything of it because I never heard it running turns out it’s a sleeper glad I never tried him lol
Four working brakes? You've driven worse...
Gotta love the Camaro jokes
Kenneth Swift all that was different in the SHP car was wider wheels and adjustable struts. The brakes and everything else are the same.
Like so many Mitsibushi's was way ahead of its time. Can't have been many produced their like hen's teeth to find nowadays 😢
Great vid!! I felt like if it had better breaks & tires Matt would have really push her harder.
A fun, unique street car.
So clean
