Honestly, takes a pretty big person to admit you aren't really about that life and to turn another way, especially when you're surrounded by it... Big props Sergio!
I don’t know Sergio, I don’t know if drugs saved you from gangs. Education also can be a reason to save a person from gangs. But whatever saved you, I’m glad that you came clean from the drugs.
I'm from Denver as well. I live in Vegas now but there was LA gang culture in Denver since the 80's. I assume you lived in an area that wasn't effected or you were too young to notice. Of course it isn't just like living in LA but it has a heavy influence on Denver.
Yo Sergio, did you ever come across or hear of orphans gang pico/union sector? In the early 90s I got banged on a few times by them foos. Got robbed at gun point at 11 years old. I purposely wore cargo pants that day and had candy in my pockets. Was able to hide the money, them foos searched me and everything for the money. Threw all the candy on the floor but thankfully was able to buy my grandma her bus pass sticker. That was on 93. Thank God we made it out
Soccer saved my life, always preferred to play when the older homies wanted to go out. Now my body is breaking from too many injuries but I still have no regrets
Amen brother. I played soccer since I was 4! I stopped playing at 27, due to so many injuries. I had surgery on my left knee for meniscus and acl tear. I broke my right angle. Always had knee and ankle issues, so I called it quiets. But I miss it a lot. I will always love soccer. It helped me a lot growing up in a rough neighborhood.
I feel you.. My Pops was well known and most OG's respected him but never aligned with the gangs.. Eventhough my uncles are in a gang, i never liked joining in. I think i got it from my Pops who moves alone but makes a big impact.
Hi. I really enjoy your content! Do you know Tiger JK? Drunken Tiger? Just wondering because he has a similar story when he lived in LA. He is a legend ! Keep up the great content.
I remember those days ktown is my home glad I made it out all these hoods around here was exposed to it at an early age after moving out from ss it was tough
I feel you g i was doing the same things you were hustling n shit like but i felt the same way i wasn’t about that gang life seeing my group split into different gangs homies turning enemies it just wasn’t for me. All my childhood friends are now currently locked up or in different asian gangs or dead i try to tellem but they never listen to me 🤷♂️. We need to unify now more then ever..only reason gangs even started in the first place to look out for one another.
I had alot of opportunities to join I did not like the part of being told by another older guy what to do and if I don't than it's me who will get it also I thought I'll get locked up eventually and then I'll have to do what the cops tell me and what some shoot caller tells me so I was like Naaah I ain't taking orders from anyone now or in the future. Rather mind my business stay to my own , Out of sight ,out of mind.
Well you know in my area we wore it as a badge of honor to not be affiliated with gangs!!! We knew all of them and some were friends but my circle was independent and very anti racist!!! See there is always an undertone of racism when it comes to gangs in my area. My circles revolved the music scene, live shows, smoking weed and drinking lol
Also one thing that also bought us together was we didn't like getting told what to do!!! We didn't like taking orders!!! Gangs you are no longer an individual! You are part of something bigger and you have rules to abide by and superiors that you have to obey!!! We were NOT down with that at all
Hey homie back in the 90’s I used buy 20 chicken sandwiches from Jack in the Box, since they were 99 cents back then and slang them at my high school for $2 each. Ha ha Asian minds think a like G.
Curious to hear your take on the murder of Norte rapper Lul Tys from Sacramento CA. If you haven’t peeped his music he was a star on the rise and now he gone too soon. RIP Lul Tys🕊️
Shit I got into my good when I was 14 . I did it too get girls and it worked unfortunately I didn't think about all the shit that came with it. I'm glad that things are no longer the way they were in the 90's back then you couldn't go anywhere without some foo asking you where you from and potentially ready to take your life.
