    wouldn't it be great if all the car manufacturers just decided to use a single USB cable for this type of thing instead of having 9000 wires for different data?

    I found this video because of the "metro" type of harness. As background info, we have a 2000 National Tropi-Cal RV with a Ford F53 engine. We're removing the old radio/cassette player (Audiovox IM500). I received the color schematic for this radio from ASA (who did original install) so I can match up the wires (by color and function) from the old to the wires on the BOSS Audio 508UAB Car Stereo - Single Din radio we purchased. We purchased a wiring harness Metra 70-1771 Radio Wiring Harness for Ford/Lincoln/Mazda 1998-Up into Car, 16 Pin) (but apparently there is NO plug that matches behind the dash). Instead, we actually have the one like you show in this video. Here's the difference (and my question), the original radio wires didn't have the TWO wires (+ and -) like the new radio/CD player. Do they go into the SAME place? Hope I don't sound too ignorant...but this will be my first time doing this (and my hubby's). We were thinking to match up the corresponding old wires with the new wires (to the matching speakers, and also ignition, ground, and battery (probably sauter them instead of using the butt connectors). Think this will work? If not...do you have any suggestions? Sorry this is so long!

    I just got myself a head unit and came to a confusion with the wiring harnesses, most the illumination wire(s). The harness that came with the head unit have one, but the harness to plug it into the car has two. How should they be wired together?

    Yea the two times ive had butt connectors installed with a cd player i had all sorts of issues. first time was done by a PROFESSIONAL installer and had to go back to the place 2 times because of loose wires and bad sound. Ended up taking the radio out myself and cutting the wires and re doing them with electrical tape. Never had a issue. Second time i tried the butt connector myself. I crimped down with a actual tool that gave the proper pressure for the size wire and all. ended up with the same issue like years prior when i was a teen. Ripped it out and tape and twisted it as well. Ever since ive only ever taped and twisted my systems. I have a truck that i did when i was 18 that my brother still has and never has had a issue with my install. ELECTRICAL TAPE FTW

    I have a car with factory sub woofers. The amp for that is turned on with 5 V. My new stereo provides 12V for that function which will create a pop when turned on.
    Other resources have said to "just" hookup a 7805 voltage regulator "chip" and you're good to go.
    I am fairly well versed with those kind of voltage regulators but have always used support components.
    Do you know how to make that connection? I've probably got some lying around.

    Can you please help with the wiring for a Pioneer FH-X731BT?
    The Pioneer harness has a blue and white System Remote wire.
    The Metra 70-5520 harness has
    Power Antenna Blue wire.
    Amp Turn On blue and white wire.
    Amp Ground black and white wire.
    Which one on the Metra harness does the Pioneer System Remote wire go to? Ive heard the System Remote wire is for Amp Turn On and also for Power Antenna.
    The Metra harness has a Orange Illumination wire and a Orange and White Dimmer wire, the Pioneer only has a single Orange and White wire.
    This is for a 2006 Sonata *without* the factory amp and subwoofer. No other amps are being added, just the radio to the stock door speakers and front door tweeters and has a antenna in the back window glass.
    I had to buy 2 Metra harnesses and take the Yellow memory wire from one harness and put it into the larger empty slot on the other harness that I will be using because that will match the slot on the cars (Sonata) factory harness where the Power Antenna goes. At least that is what I have read I should do.
    The Metra harness also has a Brown Phone Mute wire, which the Pioneer does not have.
    The rest of the wires on the Metra Harness and the Pioneer harness seem to be the same..
    8 wires for the speakers.
    Red ignition.
    Yellow Battery.
    Black Ground.

    Nice video but there are some mistakes here.
    Never twist the wire before crimping - this bulks out the wire and may come loose over time through vibration.
    Never fold over the end of the wire either - bulks the wire for no reason - just use the correct size crimp/butt connector.
    Also - crimps are better than solder - you can get a dry join on solder that will disintegrate over time and come loose.
    Use the correct size crimp in the first place and with a heat shrink boot over the top.

    Question... I bought a pioneer avh1550 nex. Sold me everything they said I would need but I don’t have any connectors. Besides the ways mentioned in your video is there a way to make the connections such as twisting the wires together and electrical taping it off. My first aftermarket install so I don’t really know

    • @Doamino41
      @Doamino41 4 года назад

      Method of wire connections are totally up to you and comes with some risks. Many believe(including me) that soldering makes the best connection. It makes the strongest and most reliable connection.But you would also have to use heat shrink and not everyone has a soldering iron or the time to do it. So most people I know use butt connectors. (I believe Best Buy does). Just be sure to use a crimper, not pliers to make a reasonable connection but might fail later.
      Twisting wires together and taping them off might work for a short time but will probably fail soon.

    I understand which wire goes to what and even the colors and how to solder as I have an electronics background. What you do not do is explain which connector goes to what and why as when you purchase an install kit it comes with multiple connectors with all the same wires and no explanation of which connector goes to what.

    • @jessedoyle8329
      @jessedoyle8329 5 лет назад

      Most kits come with a few sizes you have to figure out which one fits your factory harness by taking out the old deck. When you find the one that fits you then connect the wires from the harness to the wire harness for the deck. When those are all connected you plug everything in

      That probably isn't very common for a stereo, it seems likely those are transmit and receive data connections (Tx,Rx are often abbreviations for transmit,receive) It could be for data transfer within the car, or some kind of wireless data connection.

    so I installed a CD player in my friend's car. he don't have a amp or subs. but after about 15-25min his CD player cuts of. and he has to turn the car off then back on to get it working again. I THINK he also said it does it only when the volume is around 30-40.. he thinks a wire is loose or I hooked it up wrong. and I think it's the CD player that it's just defective. have u heard or had this problem b4. please give me feedback asap

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  7 лет назад

      Hey Cory. Could be a lot of things, yea the radio could be defective. Also could be a wiring issue with the harness, sounds like a voltage drop, make sure all the power cables are secure and unbroken. Could be a bad ground, you king of just have to diagnose it by process of elimination.

      Yes, aftermarket car radios can work with factory steering wheel controls. You will need a Metra ASWC steering wheel module and that radio must have a wired remote control input for it to work.

    What is your wiring gauge (AWG) recommendation to the constant, ground and speakers wires?

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  5 лет назад

      The power and ground terminals depend on the power draw of your system, generally 4 gauge is safe for average systems, but once you start using really powerful amps you have to go down. 10-12 gauge is always safe for speakers and subs

    Some details were left unexplained... Are the colors always matching? Should I cut the harnesses so they take up less space behind the unit? Is a crimp connector really good, or bad and why?

    • @kungfoosquirrel
      @kungfoosquirrel 7 лет назад +5

      Guillaume Gaudreault crimp connectors are good in the sense that they're easy to use to make connections, but they can also come loose over time. Could be poorly crimped, could've come loose from vibrations, who knows. Or you could crimp and never have a problem. It can be a gamble. Solder takes a little more effort but much less likely to vibrate loose

    • @rihardssvalkovskis5528
      @rihardssvalkovskis5528 7 лет назад

      you can't trust colors by 100% because there may have left-over wires with different colors and you can't understand what to do next if you don't have experience in this. Also different makers, such as chinese aftermarket units may have different colors. Today chinese aftermarket units are very popular because most of them have Android platform and units are internet ready to play audio/video directly from youtube etc. Such Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony units are old-style/old-school. They have small displays and very few features, you just pay for brand not features. Brand units have their own GPS applications that's are outdated and needs to be maintained by car/unit manufacturer service to update firmware/software. It takes a lot of headaches.
      Personally I'll reccomend up-to-date unit, even aftermarket and forget these old-school units without operating system.

    • @PulserPk

      Then how do you match the wires together? I can't find charts online.

    • @5770mp
      @5770mp 6 лет назад +1

      MartinVideos1 no one explains how to connect the wires from the radio to the wires head from the car...
      Let's assume I have red wire from the car (connected to the head.. (all the wires in this plastic)), and the red wire (according to my car's manufacturer) is for antenna, instead of accessory switch,
      (In other words- on the radio red is accessory, but the red from the car is for antenna...)
      I will need to still match colors? Or the connector will change according to the car wires? Or should i do it my self- connect the antenna to antenna, and accessory to accessory? Even if is not the same color...
      This stuff is just to simple for them, so they dont even mention that..
      For me is a completely new language...🙄

      Well the wiring harness might be the solution for all the problems, sounds like a wiring mistake during the original install

  • @TheHaloFan171
    @TheHaloFan171 7 лет назад

    somewhat confused, what's the point of the wiring harness, can't you just hook up the new radio into the car using the old cable coming out of the car?

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  7 лет назад +1

      Every vehicle is unique in terms of internal factory wiring. The dealership wiring matches the dealership radio. Wiring harnesses are necessary because they're designed to replace these factory wire cut ins because you're installing an after market stereo. The dealerships factory wiring will not match your new radio's connection. The harnesses enable you to match up the wires for each connection to the new stereo's wiring harness. Once that's done, you plug the other end of the harness into your car's wiring connector (the one that was plugged into the factory radio). Using your car's factory stereo plug wiring connector is the key to installing a new stereo without damaging your vehicle's electronics, especially in modern vehicles

    • @TheHaloFan171
      @TheHaloFan171 7 лет назад

      thanks for the response, another question, why aren't premade harnesses sold, ones that you don't have to set up yourself

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  7 лет назад +2

      Well they are, but everything is specific. So each radio comes with a harness, but you also need to get the specific harness for your vehicle's make and model. So for example, lets say you buy a radio, with it you get the radio's harness, but then you'll have to also get another harness that is specifically made your vehicle and then combine them yourself (or the installer will). It's all because each car manufacturer has unique wiring, and each radio manufacturer has unique wiring, but the third harness integrates them both

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  7 лет назад +1

      Yea that sounds like a wiring issue! There's a current draw going on somewhere, its hard to diagnose without seeing it myself so you'd have to do some investigating or bring it to someone. make sure you wired the harness correctly. Could be a loose connection at the battery terminal. Could be related to the ground, your amplifier, etc. Make sure that the head unit itself fully shuts off when you shut the car off. This is verified by having 0.0 DCV on ignition and 0.0 ACV on a speaker output when the car is off.

    Sorry I didn't clarify that, I mean if I had both in the dash (with a dash kit) under the OEM one, looks like this:
    i29.photobucket.com/albums/c275/autoware302/install-1.jpg
    and somehow wire the new stereo so it would only play sound if the original one is on AUX (CDC), the orginal head unit has a plug under it, not 100% sure of everything it does but some hook up AUX and you can get a wiring harness to fit that plug for stereo, but i want to know if you can keep the sound of the original head unit? with a after market one, hope that makes sense.
    thanks.

    I prefer better to make connections by soldering wires not making connections by clipping connectors on both wire endings.
    Soldered wires give better connection and reliability, after soldering wear cambricks over wires and heat them to make good isolation.
    After soldering you don't need to check wires because connections are perfect.
