Great song. I want to move to Panacea, Carabelle, Cedar Key, Cape San Blas. I'm over here near Pensacola, Pace. Bought after Ivan from Gulf Breeze. Its SO BUSY GROWING RAPIDLY... I'm miserable when I have to leave the house.
Visit Panacea : In the summer of 1972, was there a seafood restaurant in Panacea called the Oaks? In the summer of 1972, this family friend flew my father and me to Perry, Florida. My father had bought a vending business. We flew to Perry. My father had heard that someone in Perry was selling some old vending machines. Well, Daddy bought some machines and they were moved up to Graceville, Florida by rail. We don't even have a railroad here anymore. Well, on the way back, we flew to, I believe it was Panacea. The pilot flew low by the restaurant and dipped his wings, and then we flew to a dirt landing strip where a chauffeured limousine was waiting for us and took us to this seafood restaurant.
There most certainly was an Oaks restaurant and Motel. I think it closed sometime in the early to mid 90s. Great place and I have many fond memories of it. I can still taste the butter on their awesome grits.
Yes, north side of the highway, just east of Ochlockonee Bay bridge. About a mile east of there was The Kingfish Lodge where I spent 3 nights in 1957 when my aunt and uncle owned it. Recently noticed a photo of it among the B&W historic photos toward the rear of Posey’s restaurant. I think I recognize the remnants of Kingfish Lodge, but not positive.
Great song.
