i'd say survival horror means you have to decide when to use certain things like health or life when also deciding how to use your weapons, ammo is typically scarce and you have to use intelligence to ensure your survival in a scary setting.
+Donavon Howard Well 4 and 5 were the most successful games in the series. I wouldn't call that downhill, now I do agree those games play NOTHING like the early resident evil games and honestly resident evil 4 could be called anything and it would still be considered one of the best games of all time. I do hope that in the future we do take a step back from action horror though and go back to survival horror. There was hope with Silent Hills but now thats all over....thanks konami
How do you not mention "Sweet Home" on the Famicom in 1989? It is essentially the precursor game to Resident Evil. I can appreciate that it wasn't well-known outside of Japan until later in the 2000's when it was finally translated but just a bit of research would have found it.
I think Friday the 13th on NES doesn't get enough credit for it being one of the first games, if not the first, with legit jump scares. Very well programmed game that is often slept on
Onimusha and Devil May Cry aren't horror games, they just have some minor horror themes. They're straight action games. The end. I kinda think horror is my favorite game genre. Silent Hill is wonderful, Amnesia is glorious; horror overall just pulls out these emotions that other game genres never could, this primal feeling. Dinosaurs are the one thing in the world I have a fear of, so naturally I'm all over dinosaur games like Jurassic Park: Trespasser and Dino Crisis. I love horror games.
Plus, if you're watching someone play a horror game, it's a wonderful sight XD I sat next to someone who's prone to screaming really loud who was playing Amnesia... Yeah, didn't even see the monster and my ears were almost shot out 30 minutes in...
I miss Icons I wish they were still doing the show (as long as they would be doing it right unlike the final seasons). So are you going to upload the other episodes?
Theres a few quality video game documentaries on RUclips right now. I would say hands-down 100% better than this show. I just watch this mainly for nostalgia
And Clock Tower is NOT a rip-off of Resident Evil! Clock Tower existed first in Japan on the Super Famicom. Clock Tower was released on the SFC in 1995, whereas Resident Evil came out in 1996.
this was a really weak episode factually... clock tower came out on the SNES first before 97, FMV games stayed around past 95, and no, splatterhouse was not a rip-off of anything. it was an homage, damnit
this g4 entry is sick imo and it contradicts what i thought i found in your movie posts. ironically this is called Scary Profits!
Fatal Frame scared me and my friends. I feel like a sissy now.

The game that scared me as a kid was the original Resident Evil.
