    I have a '14 RC8R, and I absolutely love it...with the exception of the seat, and the mirror position. Chase nailed it. The seat is hard, and the material is super slick. I'm planning on getting my seat redone.
    This bike is truly a beast. The 173hp V-twin is a rocket. Extremely quick, with huge torque throughout the rpm range. I wish he would have been able to open it up.

    dude i'm really not trying to be just super negative but your reviews are honestly pretty terrible... You basically keep repeating the same stuff over and over again, complaining about the modes that you don't even know for sure.. and then by the end of the review you don't know anything more about the bike than when you came. That's not a review. Engine layout, ergonomics, brakes, aesthetics, feel, ease of use power delivery are all important topics to hit. I think you just need to plan a little bit about what you're gonna say and go through those points in your video and not just wing it.. it's just not working anymore.

      +Julian Roach I love Chase's videos but I have to agree. Although this was a fun video to watch, it's left me wondering how the suspension and brakes are, how heavy it feels in comparison to other supersprts etc. I do hope he reads this and it gives him some good ideas for future reviews

    • @chaseontwowheels
      @chaseontwowheels  8 лет назад +211

      +Julian Roach I totally understand where you are coming from Julian and also appreciate you taking the time to comment. One thing I will point out is that these videos are specifically NOT reviews. Nobody in their right mind would attempt doing a review on something they get on for the first time. These videos are "First Rides" for a reason. My goal with them is to give you my first opinion on these bikes as (ideally) you would feel doing a test ride on them. Because of that reason I don't go into massive detail about bike specifics because I want to come into the video with an open mind. All that being said if given the opportunity I would LOVE to start doing actual bike reviews but to do that I would need the bikes for something like a week or 2 so that I could really get a good feel for the bike. Hope you understand where I'm coming from in the above message.

    • @chaseontwowheels
      @chaseontwowheels  8 лет назад +47

      +Julian Lankhorst lol, we have two Julians in there! Thanks for the comment. I assume you'll be able to read the comment I made to the other Julian. What I will say is I understand where your coming from and I see a more relevant "argument" with you. While these videos aren't reviews I feel like I could do a much better job especially if you are left wondering those specific things after watching it. If I didn't touch on those things then that was my fault and something I can definitely strive to include in future videos. Speaking generally what are the main things you are curious about when watching these videos? That will help me evolve this series into something that better encompasses what people could be looking for!

      +chaseontwowheels Chase! -believe it or not, these ARE reviews, but it should be understood by everyone that they're also FIRST reviews. You've done a ton of motorcycle reviews and have reached that status where others honestly consider your opinion. Take it as a compliment that your subscribers are pushing you harder. With that being said, I think some of the more helpful aspects to cover are the more qualitative things that someone like me sitting at a desk can't get from a specs page or a promo video. How does the bike feel? How is the throttle response? What's the wind like? How do the brakes react? Could this be a daily driver or just a track bike? What does your girlfriend think of it as a passenger? Those types of things are what I think people are asking for since it's difficult to test ride a bike unless you have the cash in hand. You've addressed these questions in other reviews don't get me wrong, but lately your newer videos have been shorter than others is all. Keep it up!

    • @TheChroniclesOfFab
      @TheChroniclesOfFab 8 лет назад +6

      +chaseontwowheels I do understand that it's just really a first impression type video. Or at least it started out that way. What it has evolved into is imo something more. I mean just look at the time and thought and effort put into the footage and editing at the beginning. I honestly think that a very small amount of fire thought and effort will transform these videos into something more enjoyable and informative to your viewers. Obviously it doesn't have to be a proper review but a first impression video should always include a brief introduction to the main bullet points of the bike in a somewhat structured way. I think if you put a bit of thought into the route you specifically take on first rides it would help a lot. A route that you can work your way through the points you want to address. A route that lets you exploit the traits of a super sport that I don't think is being accomplished now that is so important to us, and only someone like you who had ridden so many bike can give

    It's funny seeing someone review a bike they have no clue about. The bike is a stripped down race bike for the street. It doesn't have any kind of electronic aids like the BMW and Ducati, but that makes it a raw beast.I thought it was kind of slow also until I broke it in. You really need to get on that bike to get all the power.The mode button is only to change the read out on the display and to change the fuel map. It only has one mode.

    • @depravedone
      @depravedone 8 лет назад

      +ASH_ RC8R It doesn't take a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist to figure out Chase knows very little about any of the bikes he's ridden on these "First Rides". He does have to take them back in one piece though and so I'd rather see him look like a dork than end up wrecking one.

    To everyone saying this bike is slow, I've seen the 1190 keep up with a gsxr-1000 in a straight line race, it's not slow by any means. That and it has a little over 170 horsepower to the rear wheel and 90 foot pounds of torque. It doesn't feel as fast because of the linear power band and the lower RPM redline (well lower than a lot of in line fours) it's hard to make a twin keep up with an inline 4 but KTM did it beautifully. That and I'd bet money a KTM rc8r would either out handle a Japanese 1000 or at least give it a run for it's money. Especially coming out of corners (being that it keeps its nose down a lot easier when you power out of corners) that's my two cents that no one probably cares about lol ;)

    KTM RC8R 1190. This is one of the more comfortable liter bikes. Very adjustable. It doesn't have different engine maps, traction control, or abs. As an owner, I can tell you it doesn't need it because the torque and hp curve is very linear, which is deceptive and leaving you feeling it isn't fast but it is. Mine was dyno tested 151 rear wheel horsepower, which is similar to CBR and other bikes. Build quality is very good. WP suspension, Brembo monoblocks, and Marchesini wheels. Recommended mods: akrapovic race exhaust, tail tidy, and sutter slipper clutch.

    In europe we use the ROZ scale whereas the US uses the AON scale.
    So the KTM needs ROZ 95 fuel which would be the equivanlent of your AON 90 fuel.

    Honestly I've never been interested in the RC8 - I'm not a fan of the looks, from what I've seen, heard and read it doesn't appear to be as fast, comfortable or pratical as the competition but I will concede that it sounds amazing with an aftermarket pipe on.
    Also, 'I've been chaseontwowheels...' < been watching some Smo vids have we? ;)

      @Swe3ets 8 лет назад

      +chaseontwowheels just looking at its stats, its definitely slow for an expensive supersport, it just seems to have a lot of torque

    • @v4forlife
      @v4forlife 8 лет назад +2

      +Smo not as practical? It is practically a sports tourer, lol. Adjustable everything, built initially for a larger than japanese size market. Takes luggage well, can cruise and granted its not as quick as the ducats but still an awesome bike for the track or road.

      +aaron smith Well it was a 675 ABS I saw and it seemed pretty nice. What's the 800 ride like? Thinking of getting another bike for a drift bike alone.

    • @aarononymous2685
      @aarononymous2685 8 лет назад

      +Frank Torre It's a great motor with an awesome powerband, like if the fz09 lived up to the hype. It can rev to the ceiling and there's always power, but the main portion of the torque does come on pretty abruptly. Also, there's like no aftermarket support for them.

    • @franktorre1981
      @franktorre1981 8 лет назад

      +aaron smith Thanx for the info and your incite. I'm gonna have to think about it. Got three bikes in mind the R6, Speed Triple R and Agusta F3 675 or 800. As for aftermarket parts I'm sure Roaring Toyz has something, besides maybe extended swing arms.

    • @connerhoffman2886
      @connerhoffman2886 8 лет назад +1

      in listening to your review and having just read up on the duke 1290, they're not exactly tuned down for usability but they are smoothed out with some ktm black magic or something. It's austrian which, like german engineering is ALWAYS over-engineered. And another part of the smooth power deliver could be the 2 cylinders and firing pattern. I had an older ducati which had a very smooth power delivery and it was explained to me that it was because of the pause between cylinders firing vs. say an inline 4 with an even 180 degree firing pattern which has a lot less time between power strokes.

    for anybody wondering, during the break in don't go over 1/2 throttle until 500 miles (800km) and keep it under 3/4 throttle until 1000 miles to preserve the integrity of those highly engineered brand new internals

    First, I should say I'm not trying to be a prick about this, but would like to offer some constructive criticism.
    1) Make a checklist of features you want to cover in any review, and familiarize yourself with those features before you begin the review.
    2) Understand the purpose of the bike. What type of riding is the manufacturer targeting with this machine? E.g., don't review a Hayabusa from the point of view that it should function like a supersport (as you have done). That's not to say you shouldn't make comparisons; they're useful as a reference point. But try to put yourself in a potential buyer's shoes. Understand that it's valid for them to have a different set of requirements for their ride than your own personal requirements, and try to evaluate it from that point of view as much as possible. I'm not saying that you don't understand this, but your comments regarding the 'busa overwhelmingly focused on the difference between it and what you mostly ride for yourself.
    Some quotes from the video and my responses:
    "Guys, if this bike has different modes, it's hard to figure out and I don't know how to do that."
    Seriously?? Are you familiar with the acronym "RTFM"? No need to read the entire thing, but at least spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with the features you plan to touch on during the review. Not only is it a waste of viewer time, but it's an added distraction from the road while you're riding. It also leads to ignorant comments like the following one...
    "Now you have the knowledge that the KTM RC8 mode selector is hard to use."
    Says the guy who put exactly zero effort into preparing to ride the bike. Not exactly a useful reference point for someone who's looking to purchase the motorcycle and will actually take a few minutes to research before riding.
    "It's not as high speed as I expected it to be."
    This, you say, after having acknowledged that it's stuck in a low power engine mode. O_O
    All that said, I do appreciate you putting your impressions out here for us all. Everyone's opinion is a valid data point, and you've added to the knowledge base.
