It's sad not more people can hear the beauty in this. This shit is amazing
FUCKING.... AMAZING SIR!
You don't have to care about the others. Just enjoy it, love it, like the rest of us
Found it yesterday
@@lobotomeh But that is exactly the issue; the most easily accessible music sells, and artists such as the Contortionist and others of their ilk struggle to make anything better than a modest living. The artists that do sell a lot are popstars and rappers, many of which don't write their own material or require a team of songwriters. That's a problem.
@@flesruoYkcuFoGuoY yeah. I know another underrated band, Hail The Sun.
It may not be "heavy" in a conventional sense.....but its still FEELS heavy to me. Musically this hits me in all the right places. Its like that feeling you get when a song (or in this case an entire album) goes in the right directions in every way.
It might not be CHUG CHUG DUGGA DUGGA heavy, but its still emotionally heavy and full of life. I dig,
Right with you. Lyric within CHUGS express a conection we(i) experience vicariously.
PersistentResistance I've never heard that described so well. It's heavy because it just goes in the right directions. This is exactly right.
because of this, the answer to my life has been given to me. I've been trying to find words to describe their sound and your words are 100% correct
I totally get what you're saying man I love these guys so much
It's heavy because the chord choices are lead in darker more curios sound. I wish we could have a live discussion. listening to the music. and being like: that there.....that's heavy. so we could all nod in Agreeance
I think they've found a perfect balance between heavy vocals and light vocals. It's just my opinion but it gets tiring hearing growling constantly. Plus this sounds more mysterious and ominous. It gives them more of an edge. This is a progressive metal band. If you don't like experimental music and would rather hear the same old shit all the time then seek elsewhere. This band is doing a fantastic job of showing that metal is not about screaming and may be able to introduce the genre to some people who may otherwise choose to stay away. And that's a good thing in my book. The more people listening to metal the better.
Couldn't agree with this comment any more. Rock on brother.
I agree. I don’t normally listen to this type of music but this just feels... surreal. Awesome jams
I mean I feel like other bands can match that vibe, eiodola, good tiger, dance gavin dance to a degree all capture this feeling of smooth progressive sound. Also mandroid EchoStar.
Although l get this may be what's meant with the primordial sound; the primitive heritage being locked up in his existence, his speech, thus and therefore in his sound..
Still, in this case mixing in cleans and gutturals as they do in this song doesn't sound super pleasing to my ears imho.
Apart from the fact that - ofcourse - Mike's a talented singer when it comes down to both individual skillsets (cleans+grunts).
Maybe it's because his clean singing sounds 'too sweet'.
Maybe that's why I would love to hear Jonathan's take on this too. 🤔
100% my guy
That vocal line at 3:45 gives me chills every time
Totally!!
Same
I love the way he sings...
Prog singing
I wish more bands made music like this. It’s like jazz/metal with Djent undertones. I love it.
There are LOADS of bands that make music like this though.
@@hrothgarnogar I’m not saying there aren’t. I just wish it was a bigger industry compared to say, hip hop. But that will never happen lol.
@@hrothgarnogarcan you give me some recommendations, im dying for more music like this at the moment
@@boykidmanboykidman5420 Sure! TesseracT, Aviations, Disperse, Spiritbox, Loathe, Sleep Token (sometimes), Periphery (sometimes), Silent Planet, Vola.
That's all I've got off the top of my head that are similar to The Contortionist. But honestly I think the Contortionist are the tippy top; the kings of this style. If you want more djent in general there's even more.
sweet agressive \m/
After seeing them twice, I can say they're DAMN good live.
Had no idea who they were the first time I saw them with BTBAM, they blew my fucking mind
Ryan Merica saw them for the first time today. didn't know who they were. so legit!!!
This is one of the most refreshing albums by a metal band I've heard in a long time. The musicality is astonishing. I loved every minute of it. And as a drummer it was pretty fulfilling learning some of these drum parts. Pretty challenging stuff!!! LOVE IT!!!
I totally agree 100% with you.
agree
***** definitely. i hadn't heard these guys before this album, went back and listened to their older stuff and it just doesn't compare
***** As a new aspiring drummer I find this album to be a complete inspiration. The variation in his beats is just insane. The left hand controllllllll@!@@@@!@@@ Maka me crazy. I just keep practicing. ;D
100% agree. As an album it's astonishing, you can just sit and listen to the whole thing. Extremely high musicality from all members, especially the drummer. The mid section in language I is a personal favourite.
I love how you get this idea of an epic metal scream in your head from the thumbnail, then it starts off so peacefully. :D
Mike's voice is so beautiful!
saw these dudes in a small ass venue and they stole the show from animals as leaders and Between the buried and me, i couldn't believe it
anarchitect420 I agree. That white bread lookin guitarist, I like dat guy..you..youw good.
anarchitect420 it's ridiculous how amazing they've gotten. They used to be a subpar deathcore band. Then I saw them live with BTBAM and was completely blown away.
I just saw that same show yesterday. Wouldn't say they did better than AAL or BTBAM but really tight. His vocals live sound exactly like the album.
Christian Mascilli Yup, Mike is one of those few metal vocalists who actually practices his cleans. And I don't mean he just rehearses them- that's a given. The dude puts WORK to perform in tune. Tommy Rogers from BTBAM is also in this club of metal voxers that take cleans very seriously.
anarchitect420 I agree. It's funny because I hadn't really gotten into these guys prior to the concert and I'm a HUGE fan of AAL and BTBAM, and in my opinion they were the best set hands down.
I think you really have to understand where they're coming from to appreciate this album. The whole thing sounds like a humbling submission to the mysteries of the universe. This song specifically stuck with me because it reminds me of the feeling of a sort of echoing emptiness that you get when you're on the right stuff and accurately so. It sounds like the letting go to the true nature of your existence.
Your primordial sound, echoing out
Existence grows from itself, echoing out
What you seek, the obsolete
The answers are of no use to you now
Echoing out
All within, is all we know
All you know versus all you don't
Your primordial sound, echoing out
Existence grows from itself, echoing out
All that you know versus all that you don't
You don't know
You don't
Yeah
All within, is all we know
All you know versus all you don't
Exotic cover of Socrates quote: "I know that I know nothing", 2000 years later
this song is so beautiful
As you are
This album was such a good way to end the year. I hadn't been too into The Contortionist, but when I came across this album, the blend between soft ambience, heavy riffs, and lyrics flowing with consciousness, I became an instant fan. It's really one of my favorite albums now. Thanks dudes!
I dont think ive ever been actually moved by music before I started listening to The Contortionist. I remember one day in class a couple months ago I was doing something and had my headphones in and when 2:31 hit I got mega chills and started tearing up right in the middle of class!
+Cessna 182a man I'm getting those same chills running down the back of my neck and spine right now.
It's 2022 and this album is still a fucking masterpiece of progressive metal!
When this album first came out, I wasn't into it. Honestly, because I was hoping for another "Exoplanet" type album. But the more I listen to Language, the more I fall in love with. While leaning way more on the ambient side, this album is still the perfect blend of heavy and ambient. I honestly hope this album becomes a game changer. Metal doesn't need to be a super down tuned chug fest to express musicality and emotion and The Contortionist has proven this with all three albums. Oh and the new singer could NOT be any more of a perfect fit. Like god damn, son.
Jim I was searching for awhile on what music I want to make. I’ve always had a dream to just write at least one album and have at least one gig. I experimented with thrash metal, Maiden style metal, even wacko shit like Mr Bungle or Fantômas... but always wanted to play metal with ambiance... then I found these guys.. and it just done it. This is the type of music that needs to grow. I just need to find more people around me to play this with, and get a little better myself. Ironically The Contortionist got big locally in my city, Indianapolis. So they are a little know. Around here so hopefully I can find people easier from that. But I totally agree, metal doesn’t need to be a chug fest, this rift here is beautiful
Hell yeah!
Heard these guys back in the "heavier" days and never really had anything stand out to me til I heard this album!
@@TheWitness369 Chilllllllllllllll Flourish, Contact, Exoplanet I: Egress, Holomovement, Dreaming Schematics, Causality. Each song is a song that changes you forever I promise.
These guys are on top of their game right now. I love Exoplanet to death but I've found myself listening to Language a lot more nowadays - it really grew on me.
Language is one of the most unique albums ever
Apart from being one of the best albums in it's kind, listening to it itself is one in a lifetime experience.
Thank you Joey Baca for giving drummers everywhere something fun to play 😊
Please keep playing those tasty jams.....you've already secured a place in my heart an that of many others.
This is my Berserk and Vagabond OST...
I always went to work on the subway reading Berserk and listening the album of this song ... It worked so perfectly with Berserk Manga! So many memories...
This song is fucking beautiful
Joey Baca is really talented
The contortions is love, the contortionist is life.
Absolutely love this song, gutted they didn't perform more off Language in London last night.
May I ask what they played? Im shocked to hear they didn't play all of Language!
Holomovement, Language I & II, Flourish, and a couple others I can't honestly say I remember haha.
Did you see them at Koko? I was really hoping for this song, but the set was fucking awesome either way, his live vocals are on point.
***** yeah, I was up right up the front in front of Robby. Mike was absolutely amazing, right?
I'm perplexed how this song hasn't reached over a million views yet.
absolutely awesome saw these at TesseracT concert
This band is becoming my favorite obsession
It is now. Move over deftones
This song sounds like it’s been here since before time itself. Beautifully indescribable song.
Some of these guys look so young, I can't imagine where they'll be in 10 years
They are pretty young, band formed in 2007.
JohnC546
My band from 2008 played a show with them when they had their first vocalist. They headlined the show and it was a pretty sick experience. I can hear the old element of their music in this new stuff they play now. I am sure you heard the old stuff, when it was way heavier? It's cool because I like both even though its completely different.
Michael Grenier That's pretty cool, and as Magic said, what band are you in?
***** oh, god no....please no
***** "is it djent too" please stfu lmao, dumb kid
And the next video will be "Ebb and Flow"
Fingers crossed
No Parable? D:
yuptydoo I do love the Parable but I guess it is time now to show a little bit of the harder side!
So far every track released as a video had only clean vocals on it which isn't exactly a representation of what this band is about
I personally think Ebb & Flow is the best track on the album. Would love to see another video as captivating as they did for Language, and I think the ending of Ebb & Flow would fit perfectly.
poopoobear69
If you want "harder" TC, why not just go back to the epitome of heavy, Exoplanet? =P
Or Sporadic Movements, if you're simply out of your mind haha
I love this so much becouse it's progressive metal with post rock song structure, progressive metal with crescendo
Exactly!!!
This band's new album has single handedly renewed my faith in metal.
All these years have passed and this track still remains underrated. what a shame.
that harmonic progression on the keys during the intro is so absolutely perfect. this and language 1 and 2 are game changing songs. can't wait till these guys to write a second album with the new(ish) vocalist
This is the type of metal you enjoy as you mature. I jam all four of their albums and there is a mood, time and place for all of them. I listen to this album with my girl and she doesn't mind it. I listen to Predator with my my girl and it lasts for 10 seconds before she puts her music on. Choose your albums wisely bitchez...
D Mazz More like choose your women wisely...
John Doe all the crazy ones listen to this beautiful shit... If she good lookin and listen to this man oh man you better keep that bish
This takes me back to a time I was really down and close to giving up. Without music like this I would have.
That bassist though.... mmmm love me some good bass guitar
This shit is so fucking on point.
This is my first time hearing The Contortionist, and the first thing that stands out for me is how much they sound Opeth-influenced. I'm really digging this!
This song is amazing. It reminds me of Opeth's album Damnation very much, which is a good thing.
this song also sounds a lot like Cynic to me.
Ben Scott I agree
seeing this band live was almost like a spiritual experience. it's crazy to see live.
Thank you for this The Contortionist.
these guys are baked
Always
So am I
They are great live and fun to watch perform!
A dark abstract twisted journey...thank you!!!
One off my all time favorite bands!
This is their best song.
This album was a perfect mix of heavy and not heavy/trancy. Even as someone who loves the heavy stuff, this album is a 10 out of 10
Amazingly beautiful.
saw these guys last week in Belfast, amazing live. Mike is such a humble and down to earth guy
Mike is such an amazing vocalist. Last Chance To Reason is great but I'm glad he's getting more recognition in The Contortionist.
Man, whoever edited this dropped the ball on the black bars. You can still see the original video behind it at the very top and bottom and I can't stop looking at it lmao
Sounds very CYNIC influenced to me, which is definitely a good thing!
This song is like a fucking spiritual experience, so mind blowing and amazing
I'm so glad I found this song again. I saw another song in my recommended and remembered this song in particular.
Man this song rocks
So so good :D Favourite album of 2014
never heard till periphery tour in Buffalo a few weeks ago
AMAZING!!
all albums have been on loop for the hour drive to work since
3:53 - 4:06 gives me chills everytime.
How does this masterpiece not have 1 m views yet? The contortionists are on the Olympus of prog metal by now
Just found y'all and the past three songs are all bangers very nice.
I loved it when Opeth went the quiet, haunting, melodic route and am enjoying these guys transformation as well.
So beautiful, so unique and so enchanting! 🖤
Cheers from 🇧🇷
what a beautiful song!!
I just realized this is practically the same video as
Last Chance To Reason's "The Escapist", aside from a
minor scene. The singer just sounds great in both bands.
I just saw The Contortionist on Monday in Wichita. Absolutely incredible to experience; their music is beautiful and they pull it off live flawlessly.
RuspurApproves
His voice, when he sneers, ...
..sends a chill down my spine
God damn their music is so “ominous” ..... I LOVE IT!!!
I would surely buy an album full of this
Me in the car with my friends- "hey check out this band the contortionist" (listen for a minute) my friends- "this shit sucks, put on drakes new album" me - -_- -_-
Drake's new album? i mean it's not as good as the others, but come on
Some hip hop isn't bad. I don't understand why we can't appreciate mainstream music at the same time. If your friends don't like this style of music, it's pretty hidden from the general public, don't force it. Find beauty in all music. It's subjective.
+Adrian Burns It's easier said than done with today's examples of top 40's music. For the most part, it's difficult to find anything that truly original, creative, or enjoyable. I mean, thats just my opinion, but you really cant truthfully say this is a good age for most mainstream music, it's so hilariously panderous and simple.
well this music is truly amazing better then rapping about cars and such like wow. this speaks of beauty its cosmic metal
hah must be from california huh.... theres gonna be a select few in all the cities that listen to these bands, i always get stuck in the cars listenin to some edm or rap... raps tite and all but im just a rocker at heart man... Shame it aint riding the mainstream attention cuz id be fuckin havin the time of my life if this was on everyday
Harry Potter plays guitar now? sweet.
Best comment
+Jon Myers Rofl. Dying.
And Lord Voldemort is singing...
Emanuel Webber
OMG
this song gives me chills everytime I listen to it
I didn't know I needed this in my life
...has anyone really grasped the concept of this album.........lyricaly it's beautiful
+Driaven TheLiberator go smoke DMT...youll catch on, mushrooms work too.
+Fat Milky hahha nah, I totally get it, it's just most people don't really pay attention. to the meaning XD
This album is litterally the knowledge gained from crossing to the other side, at least that's what it seems to be from my perspective, kinda like altered state from tesseract
I can not believe how they were able to keep this album so chill and heavy and extremely catchy all at the same time.
I constantly sing this throughout the day.
Great photography!
Amazing ! For the first time Vevo suggested something I actually like, excellent song !
This song on acid brought me to tears it's so beautiful
I haven't had the chills in a long time..
Thank you
Such a smooth melodic combaltion
Whoa what a crazy, awesome talented band! I wish I'd heard of them sooner.
great job guys seriously it's awesome
This really doesn't get enough credit. If you can't like The Contortionist at their prettiest, you don't deserve them at their djentiest.
People can like what they want.....
Certain parts remind me of something that I'd hear on a Silent Hill game. Awesome.
this entire album is musical perfection.
Love this guys, love this album, love this song. As I said before. I hope these guys are aware of the wonderful feelings they generate in people with his music.
Totally agree!
Agreed man. They're brilliant.
I fucking love the way they fill the gap.. I dig this band
Sooo gorgeous! This is what real music is.
why is this band so talented?
This is art.
I'm 31, huge Pink Floyd fan. I'm sitting here with my bud. he says " check out this band". I listened to a few tracks. so my thoughts: if Pink Floyd had a baby and threw metal in the mix this would be the result. needless to say I'm excited to see them in concert Monday!
Normal people don’t appreciate the intricacies in this kind of music
So good. Hoping they come to the UK again soon
I love the vi7-#Vmaj7 progression! 0:41 -0:54
Shit sounds like dank Wii music
Do you know what chords does he play by any chance ? :/
More like Dark Wii music
Seriously next level shit here... a guy I just met who plays drums just showed me them 2 weeks ago. I've listened to the album front to back at least 20 times honestly. I LOVE that it sounds like a heavy version of perfect circle sometimes and then just utter brilliance the rest of the time.
Inexplicable headbanging in the background.
