@@lobotomeh But that is exactly the issue; the most easily accessible music sells, and artists such as the Contortionist and others of their ilk struggle to make anything better than a modest living. The artists that do sell a lot are popstars and rappers, many of which don't write their own material or require a team of songwriters. That's a problem.

It may not be "heavy" in a conventional sense.....but its still FEELS heavy to me. Musically this hits me in all the right places. Its like that feeling you get when a song (or in this case an entire album) goes in the right directions in every way.
It might not be CHUG CHUG DUGGA DUGGA heavy, but its still emotionally heavy and full of life. I dig,

It's heavy because the chord choices are lead in darker more curios sound. I wish we could have a live discussion. listening to the music. and being like: that there.....that's heavy. so we could all nod in Agreeance

I think they've found a perfect balance between heavy vocals and light vocals. It's just my opinion but it gets tiring hearing growling constantly. Plus this sounds more mysterious and ominous. It gives them more of an edge. This is a progressive metal band. If you don't like experimental music and would rather hear the same old shit all the time then seek elsewhere. This band is doing a fantastic job of showing that metal is not about screaming and may be able to introduce the genre to some people who may otherwise choose to stay away. And that's a good thing in my book. The more people listening to metal the better.

Although l get this may be what's meant with the primordial sound; the primitive heritage being locked up in his existence, his speech, thus and therefore in his sound..
Still, in this case mixing in cleans and gutturals as they do in this song doesn't sound super pleasing to my ears imho.
Apart from the fact that - ofcourse - Mike's a talented singer when it comes down to both individual skillsets (cleans+grunts).
Maybe it's because his clean singing sounds 'too sweet'.
Maybe that's why I would love to hear Jonathan's take on this too. 🤔

I think you really have to understand where they're coming from to appreciate this album. The whole thing sounds like a humbling submission to the mysteries of the universe. This song specifically stuck with me because it reminds me of the feeling of a sort of echoing emptiness that you get when you're on the right stuff and accurately so. It sounds like the letting go to the true nature of your existence.

When this album first came out, I wasn't into it. Honestly, because I was hoping for another "Exoplanet" type album. But the more I listen to Language, the more I fall in love with. While leaning way more on the ambient side, this album is still the perfect blend of heavy and ambient. I honestly hope this album becomes a game changer. Metal doesn't need to be a super down tuned chug fest to express musicality and emotion and The Contortionist has proven this with all three albums. Oh and the new singer could NOT be any more of a perfect fit. Like god damn, son.

Jim I was searching for awhile on what music I want to make. I’ve always had a dream to just write at least one album and have at least one gig. I experimented with thrash metal, Maiden style metal, even wacko shit like Mr Bungle or Fantômas... but always wanted to play metal with ambiance... then I found these guys.. and it just done it. This is the type of music that needs to grow. I just need to find more people around me to play this with, and get a little better myself. Ironically The Contortionist got big locally in my city, Indianapolis. So they are a little know. Around here so hopefully I can find people easier from that. But I totally agree, metal doesn’t need to be a chug fest, this rift here is beautiful

I loved it when Opeth went the quiet, haunting, melodic route and am enjoying these guys transformation as well.

I just realized this is practically the same video as
Last Chance To Reason's "The Escapist", aside from a
minor scene. The singer just sounds great in both bands.

I just saw The Contortionist on Monday in Wichita. Absolutely incredible to experience; their music is beautiful and they pull it off live flawlessly.

Some hip hop isn't bad. I don't understand why we can't appreciate mainstream music at the same time. If your friends don't like this style of music, it's pretty hidden from the general public, don't force it. Find beauty in all music. It's subjective.

+Adrian Burns It's easier said than done with today's examples of top 40's music. For the most part, it's difficult to find anything that truly original, creative, or enjoyable. I mean, thats just my opinion, but you really cant truthfully say this is a good age for most mainstream music, it's so hilariously panderous and simple.

This album is litterally the knowledge gained from crossing to the other side, at least that's what it seems to be from my perspective, kinda like altered state from tesseract

I'm 31, huge Pink Floyd fan. I'm sitting here with my bud. he says " check out this band". I listened to a few tracks. so my thoughts: if Pink Floyd had a baby and threw metal in the mix this would be the result. needless to say I'm excited to see them in concert Monday!

Seriously next level shit here... a guy I just met who plays drums just showed me them 2 weeks ago. I've listened to the album front to back at least 20 times honestly. I LOVE that it sounds like a heavy version of perfect circle sometimes and then just utter brilliance the rest of the time.
