when you are doing the routines all music get shut out. you don’t even know it’s playing everything is silent basically. it’s like a vortex baha. that’s from my exact experience
This was the highlight of the night for me! So glad to see Riley out there after classics, I was so worried that was the end for her this year. This set was absolutely beautiful
Right? I had not heard about her condition, and when she wasnt around on day 1, I figured "oh, no!". So happy to see her pull out this stunning routine. Pulling for you, Riley. 💖🤗

@@ShyBandGeek maggie haney her old coach abused her and many other gymnasts such as laurie hernandez and she recently got suspended by usag for a really long period of time but they’re reducing it
She looks so happy and joyful and she killed this routine!!! This was fricking amazing I was almost screaming. I'm super happy for her and I hope she gets the specialist spot
I got goosebumps!! The best routine she’s ever done at such a critical moment in the journey to Tokyo! That was spot on. Wish her a quick come back and to compete AA at Trials. I still think she can at least make the team as a BB and UB specialist

Fantastic routine, really hope she is healthy enough to compete in the AA at trials without her routines being too watered down! If not, she may deserve one of the solo spots. If Jade doesn't place top 2 a trials and just holds on to her solo spot, Riley would be a good addition. As she excels at bars and beam as well, whole Jadd is killer at vault and floor.
I think there's only one solo spot available. If Jade makes the team and doesn't use hers, it is forfeited - no one else can take it.
@Noelle Domke nope Jade's spot is for Jade only but the US has another "open" spot.
If Jade were to forfit her solo spot and join the regular team, Jade's spot goes to a gymnast from another country (can't remember who) and the US would just be left with the "open" one.
@@wombatnumbat989 Yes. I was referring to her getting the other solo spot that Jade doesn't have. Whether Jade makes the main team or not, there is one individual spot available. And I was saying that if Riley is not healthy enough to make the main team, I think she would be a good choice for that second individual spot. Especially because if Jade doesn't make the main team and holds on to her individual spot. That means the two specialists would be opposite gymnasts. With Jade being great on vault and floor and Riley being great on bars and beam.
@Noelle Domke I do not believe so no. I think that's why Tom Forester said he will not consider her for the team if she doesn't forfeit her individual spot. Thats why Jade is really shooting for top 2 at trials so she can make the main team regardless of how Tom feels. If she places top 2 then her individual slot dissapears she makes the main team.

i still think she should be on the team. i think she's brilliant enough of a gymnast for the selection committee to name her to the team with the expectation that the time between trials and the olympics will allow her to recover the other 3 events.
I think she needs to show a floor routine at trials even a downgraded one because we haven't seen her floor since 2019. I think even if she has a downgraded vault at trials she'll be fine. It helps her that no one else - Wong, DiCello, McCallum and Skinner mainly - made a good argument for the 4th spot. I love Malabuyo but she finished in 4th because of their mistakes only.
But there are too many other girls who good at all events, Riley stands more of a chance of a specialist not AA. Simone, Jordan, Sunsi, Grace, Jade. I would hope Jade takes the spot she earned through the other way.
@@running_girl5512 grace and kayla are proving to be quite inconsistent and they don't have a standout even that can contribute more than a tenth or two over simone/suni/jordan. riley's bars can be a full half point higher than simone and jordan, so if she can put together an AA set by trials (watered down), she'll end up being part of the highest-scoring team mathematically, which is what tom said in an interview after nationals that he's looking for for the 3rd and 4th spots.
I'm more for specialist. She has not shown consistency on the other events, but I am impressed by her improvements an UB consistency.
@@liceous That's an interesting perspective, though I'm sure gymternet fans like us are thinking about this in more depth than even Tom Forester. I think by your rationale of maximizing team score, oddly, MyKayla Skinner is an equally good choice because she can score +0.5 on vault relative to Suni whoever that 3rd vault spot would be after Jordan and Simone -- plus MyKayla, unlike Riley, has been competing AA and getting relatively decent scores across several nights of recent competition. BUT scores aside I think USAG is not that interested in having MyKayla on an Olympic team. (Call it a "bias", but I think a bias against bad form is actually fair, lol).
Ultimately the fourth team spot doesn't really matter all that much, but I would still pick Riley for the specialist nod, because the single most compelling reason she deserves it is her legitimate contention for a bars final/medal, and it just seems more fitting to let her take that route and focus on bars or beam or whatever else she wants to compete without risking any damage to her feet.
I would LOVE to see her in a specialist spot for Tokyo. I’d love to see her continue to make strides on bars while adding one or maybe two more events for trials. I love her gymnastics
I love her Leo and hair! Gorgeous! She was stunning in every aspect: form, execution, presentation, etc.

Between Simone, Jordan, and Jade, there’s no room for a vault or floor specialist. Suni will clearly be on the team, and then they’ll take a dependable all arounder for the fourth team spot. The best chance for a specialist spot is someone who is particularly strong on bars or beam, and since after this competition I don’t see Kara Eaker being in contention as a beam specialist, I think Riley is the best bet. She could actually medal at event finals, whereas I don’t see anyone else who isn’t already going to be on the team with a medal contending routine.

Riley could be on that team if she just can make a downgraded vault and floor at trials. At the Olympics, USA needs a great bars and beam worker and she can contribute on both.
this comment aged so poorly... I still completely agree with you though. Riley made the most sense in the specialist spot. She would've never made the team though, because she wasn't really trying for that, and she didn't make sense there either. The team was already good on bars and beam, it needed someone for vault and floor, and Mykayla made the most sense there. I still love Grace though, and I'm so happy she made it!
Riley McCusker is a great gymnast.I am so happy she is healthy. Ballet training has helped her floor routine grearly.It is wonderful that she has performed a flawless bar routine in a major 2021 tournament just before the Olympic Games.Riley will be a huge medal winner in Tokyo,Japan.She is so intelligent,and has A very nice speaking voice.Go Riley.GOD BLESS Riley McCusker. Great form as always. Extended feet even in the Ricna release. I didn’t know that she changed the dismount. Now it’s a double front with half twist.
She's been competing with that dismount since the winter cup.

Riley is one of the most elegant US gymnasts I've ever seen, right there With Shannon Miller and Nastia Liukin. She has the style and the lines but has been inconsistent in major international competitions. Wishing her so much luck this year!

I keep coming back to this, it's so satisfying. Ricna + Pak + Chow 1/2 is such a beautiful sequence. She does the Downie release really well too, it's flightier and smoother than most. Good form throughout the routine, she hits the full pirouette, and there's Eagle-grip work at the end that she gets no extra credit for! This would have been in the 9's on execution in the pre-2017 era, and I still think it was underscored as per the current customs. You have to get overly picky and not give benefit of the doubt to find over a point in deductions here, like taking .3 off for height on her first Tkatchev (despite the fact that if you pause the video, her hips are level with the bar height when her hands are on the bar, so that's only a .1 deduction).

Her smile at the end of that routine was everything for me. I think if she can get her beam together she could make the team proper for bars and beam, but regardless of whether it's a team spot or an individual spot, I don't see her not going to Tokyo.

I totally counted her out before classics. But she is happier, I think in a better coaching situation, and I am beginning to trust her landing the routines. She has a good shot at the specialist position.

That routine was incredible, I don't know how the judges found more than a point off. Still hope Riley will make the team even with the ankle injury. My team would be Simone. Suni, Grace and Riley with Jade and Kara as specialists.
I do not see 1.3 in deductions. I can only see maybe 0.6! this was an incredibly clean and difficult routine. Go Riley!

Idk why people are saying she is gonna be the 2nd specialist? Can't you see that she has the potential to beat even Suni for the 2nd AA spot? She can scofe higher than Suni on Vault, if she hits on Bars just like this - only a few difference from Suni's Bars. She might be able to score higher than Suni too on Floor or atleast close to her. She can score higher than Jordan/Suni on Beam if she does hit. She deserves the 4th spot
I agree that she deserves the 4th spot but I think Suni would beat her in the AA if they both hit.
@@Matthew-jh6oh Suni's Vault scores are lower than what Riley gets. Suni's Floor is - we don't know yet. So it might be close if they do both hit. But anyways, I just want Riley to make the team
@@ianxlevergara5353 Me too lanxle, but the reality is that Riley has not really been competing all-around that much, the odds are truly not in her favor, and that pains me b/c I adore and I love to watch her on floor where I think she is so captivating. But there's still a little more time for the final selections and you never know how that goes. My dream team is Simone, Suni, Riley and Jade - but it's not a team based on the reality of things at the moment, it's just that...my "dream" team. I am hoping for Riley to go and get to compete.
@@duranca The odds are in her favor for the specialist spot. She probably just needs to compete on beam and bars at trials. There is a good chance that she will get the specialist spot if she hits all of her beam and bar routines.

Gotta love Riley but so sad that her college potential isn’t what it could be. I got a 9.85 in college scoring with this routine!!!!! Wtf and when she does two transitions and a dismount she scores a much worse score. Maybe it’s the weight gain and lack of motivation or conditioning and that’s totally okay and it’s just natural but all I want for her is the best so it looks like she’s improving and I’m here for it!!
