  • Kimi races against the press at a Santander event in Norway, May 2014. He starts last and finishes second. The guy who won is a norwegian racing driver. Kimis kart was very bad at picking up speed and slow on the straights. But he clearly had a good time nevertheless.

"Kimi's kart was very bad at picking up speed and very slow on the straights" but he finished P2, shows how professional he is.

"doesnt matter how good u are hire karts suck lol"
Actually, it *only* matters how good you are because you can't pull out a shitload of money and get the upper hand. Benchmark the karts, use ballast, fairest racing on Earth, period. Maybe if Kimi wasn't 3 feet off of the apex in half the corners he would've fared better.

DerekSiems in karting you are supposed to take corners wide, it is not the same as in f1 (for example)

Vel Pro As a lap record holder, season champion, and having beat Travis Pastrana's lap time at an exhibition event all in karts, you are absolutely 100% wrong. Racing lines are racing lines, the only time you do anything different is if it's raining or there is something non-uniform about the track surface (serious banking, dirt/mud, sticky rubber left from drifters on the outside line, etc.). Kimi is just making mistakes.

well correct me if i am wrong, but as far as i know go karts do not have any differentials and they tend to behave a bit different than other racing cars, sometimes you have to take a bit wider line to avoid sliding too much and to keep the momentum as high as you can. i am not a champion or anything similar, but i have still driven go karts and i know a thing or two about them.

      1) karts don't have differentials, but they are designed to flex to lift the inside tire to achieve the same function. Rental karts don't do this quite as well as CIK-style karts, but they still do it.
      2) nobody is talking about the width of the line, I said missing APEXES, which no matter what racing you do unless there's a pool of water, an oil slick, or some other debris on the track, you should always be hitting the apex unless it's a complex series of corners where the rumble strip is off the racing line, but in this case it is not. He is overdriving the kart for the amount of grip, but to be fair an F1 car or 2-stroke CIK kart has about 2-3x the grip of this rental kart.
      3) once again, a racing line is a racing line. It varies slightly based on grip, power, vehicle size, etc., but missing a geometric apex is never the right way to go. And, for the record, F1 cars could be argued to handle worse than karts because they're so long and have a very wide turning circle. On some tight road courses F1 cars can get easily wedged into a wall if they try to go 2 wide because just one car can barely make it while turned all the way to lock. The only place F1 cars are best is in fast, long corners where they can get full benefit of the high downforce.
