Ive walked and Mountain Biked all around this Particular Area of the Derbyshire Peak District. Even been under it .I also worked on the visitor Centre for Pevril Castle. That was hard work through the winter i can tell you .
It's fifty years this year that I left my job as second head waiter at Ye Old Nag's Head. It was a proper restaurant with silver service in those days. There were villagers living there and some real local characters. In the seventies, it was much more genteel and calm, no scruffy chavs were ever seen in the village, and it was peaceful. Today, it's a seething mass of oiks, chavs and dubious foreigners. All the housing has been turned over to holiday lettings by huge corporations and the village has lost its character. Sirens blare day and night now, something that was never heard in times gone by. It's very sad to see the village in this state.
