They need places to climb, or hammocks to rest in. They look depressed and almost always have respiratory issues. Luckily, when I got my girls they had just arrived and hadn’t been exposed to the bedding that would give them issues, and now they’re about one and a half thriving. Hi! As ex beta fish breeder I would not recommend putting her in this tank
    I do not know English that well so I cannot explain chemistry behind it but in fresh started tanks will be sudden changes of parameters!
    She's professional and she can check water daily but I do not recommend it, a sick fish with tank like this will 100% die.
    For wondering:
    The most effective way in treating beta fish like this is to put them in bowl (you know, just some container) with fresh water, change water on on 48 h to avoid sudden changes in parameters. Slow, gentle pre started filter and ofc heater bc betas need warm water! To water you gives the
    In week or two fish will be stronger and start to behave normally (in hard rescue cases it really can be a long process)
    When tank is ready you can move your fished but not before first two weeks for sure. The first spike in azot (?) is the most dangerous, with others betas are dealing pretty well :)
    Love this fishes they have so much personality!

      ?? just simply being in the hobby makes us equally responsible because if we weren't buying them, they wouldn't need to mass produce them and ship them by the millions in packed bags leading to millions of them dying just from the stress of shipping alone. If only you could see the amount of fish that literally every pet store throws in the trash before you ever get to see them in the tanks when the store opens (some stores don't even bother to take the dead ones out when they're supposed to) This one fish isn't the big picture.

      Still not a good idea to attack the workers, it's not their decision to put them into cups 😭 I'm a pet care worker and I spent hours opening and cleaning Betta fish cups today just to make sure they all stayed healthy my fingers are in IMMENSE pain

    • @anti-victimGenX
      @anti-victimGenX 7 месяцев назад +19

      @vexayen1675
      1. Aww your poor fingers. At least you're not stuck in 1 room that you breathe, shit and urinate in, with no way to open a window for at least fresh air, hey.
      2. No one said anything about attacking the workers.
      The other person meant something along the lines of as long as there are Beta Keepers buying or "rescuing" these fish, being kept in miserable conditions... the companies that order in, store and sell them in little plastic cups will continue.
      Rescuing 1 ill looking Beta, won't change the conditions for the rest of them, still left on the shelf. Or those that will be ordered in to replace them.
      A lot of these fish die due to keeping them like this, if not at the shop, when some goodwiller buys them at half price thinking they're going to try save them - but the fresh conditions happening too fast shocks them and they die anyway.
      Then they're attracted to "make it right" for the passed "rescue".
      So they ask questions in Facebook groups, do as much reading as they can absorb and prepare and prepare as well as they can (this is best scenario behaviour in their eyes),.. Two weeks later, they return to the shop and purchase another Beta in a cup - you know, in tribute to losing the first one they tried to save.
      It's yet another perpetuation of the cycle.
      At the end of the day, no living animal should be kept in such conditions.
      It should be regulated/legislated to change this, wherever these cups of Beta are sold.
      *Here in all the Victorian, Australia, aquarium shops, they have walls of Beta tanks. Very small tanks I grant you, but absolutely not a plastic cup, and they're all hooked up to their own filtering system where each tank has fresh turnover of water, automatically. They are fed, and kept a close eye on. As all fish should be.
      Supermarkets should not be permitted to sell live animals, regardless.
      Having said this, our pet shops no longer sell cats or dogs either. Our general pet shops only usually stock general fish (typical tropicals & goldfish), maybe hermit crabs, some basic reptiles with minor licenses required before purchases (higher knowledge licensed animals can usually be ordered in), rodents and birds.
      Our pet shops, thankfully, will often have "useful Karen" monitoring them, their live stock and treatment.. and it's how we got our regulations changed.
      We still have our back yard breeders, negligent owners with "oh no, another unexpected litter!", because they failed to have their chosen pet desexed - but for the most part, our pet purchasing practises have been extremely upgraded, compared to what they were when I was a kid.
      I understand some wholesalers still transport Beta orders in cups.. but it's just laziness for a retailer to put them on a shelf for sale, in the same conditions.
      Only way to demand better, is to stop purchasing them entirely, until change is made.

If you ask a well informed Betta owner, there's like a 90% chance that we'll tell you we have weekly heart attacks because the devil fish decided to be a bastard and made us think it decided to keel over because the tank was 1 degree warmer than usual.

      one fish in a tank with this amount of plants for the amount of water that's in it, you wouldn't even detect any ammonia anyway. I have a few like this that I never changed the water in, the waste feeds the plants and eventually makes it's way into the sand as well. But anyway this video makes no sense because she has plenty of cycled filter sponge she could easily cycle it instantly if she wanted to. So she's intentionally not cycling it.
      Edit: Oh and there's also a good chance the plants themselves will carry some beneficial bacteria, and probably even some snails that will help clean the tank.

    • @otallono
      @otallono 8 месяцев назад

      @@pink_alchemist Bacteria in a bottle is 100% a scam. You had success because "cycling" is something that happens no matter what and your fish didn't care one way or the other. Every controlled study ever done conclusively showed bacteria in a bottle products do not make a difference in the slightest, and regardless of brand. You're just putting dead bacteria in the tank thinking it's going to do something and at some point it is cycled anyway. Actually the majority of aquarium products are scams and the youtubers who promote them know they are but they get them for free so there's no loss.

    Sometimes rules need to be broken when the circumstances are different. You did the right decision and that fish will benefit greatly from it. You can always pop some water from your cycled tank across into the new tank to make sure the good bacteria that will maintain your tank can have something to consume. And make sure you do frequent but small water changes during the settling of the new tank to avoid huge fluctuations in water parameters.

    I think it’s important to mention how you do a fish-in cycle without giving your fish ammonia and nitrite poisoning. You need to dose the tank with Seachem Prime or API Aqua Essential water conditioner EVERY 24 HOURS to detoxify nitrite, ammonia and nitrate. Do not overdose more than 4x the recommended amount or it may bond to the oxygen molecules in the water and suffocate your fish. Follow the dosing instructions carefully- using a medicine syringe makes it really easy to measure.
    For those of you who don’t know, cycling is allowing beneficial bacteria to colonize the surfaces in the tank. This bacteria consumes the toxic ammonia and nitrite (that is from fish waste, rotten food and rotten plant matter), and converts it into less toxic Nitrate.
    To cycle a tank, you set it up with the substrate, decorations, plants, heater and filter. Then you run it for a month while adding a pinch of ground up fish food flakes every day. Don’t change the water until the tank is cycled. To confirm your tank is cycled you need to test the water parameters (I recommend the API Freshwater Master Test Kit); you’re looking to see ammonia at 0ppm, nitrite at 0 ppm, and nitrate at 5+ppm. Do a large partial water change (50-75%) and gravel vac the substrate to clean up the mulm that has accumulated in the tank. To be safe, wait another day or 2 then retest the water parameters to make sure ammonia and nitrite is 0 ppm and nitrate is between 5-20ppm. If nitrate is present but low, go ahead and add your fish! If nitrate is high (20+ppm) do another water change before adding fish. If you retest and find ammonia or nitrite, then you are not done cycling.
    Always retest water parameters a week after adding new fish to ensure you didn’t crash your cycle. Test your water at the first sign of fish stress and/or illness, if your water is cloudy, if algae is blooming out of control, and when you’re not sure if you should do a water change….if nitrates are above 10ppm, it’s time for a water change.
    Be sure to change 25-50% of the water and gravel vac weekly once you’ve added fish to your tank.
    Too much algae growing? Reduce your lights to 8 hrs per day.
    Speaking of lights, turn them off at night so your fish can sleep!
