I wish I could tell you! We had the same thing happen the next week. Released 7:20 am from Lake Charles, La…. 68 birds release on a great day. 400 mile race. Only one day bird in the club. I didn’t clock any of my 9 entered, and still only have two home! 😕
The main reason is the thunder and lightning on their way home ,nothing is worse for pigeons ,they get desoriantated .We had a race here in Belgium last year from 600 miles and all the way they had such weather and a lot of pigeons never came back .But here the organisers have to ask permission to the national bord to release the pigeons but they didn't so that was the end of these organisers ,they will never have a race again .Still a great result ,congrats .
I had that happen many times do to weather, I lost many good birds because of that . I hope you get most of the birds back . The main problem here is the fog because is many valleys and mountains the birds gets in the fog and they crash in to things. Great videos as always keep updates so we know the outcome. Take care.
I love tough races. The better birds show their value. The ones who think on their own and not just follow the flock home week after week. That’s a tough grizzle. One I would consider for stock.
Tough race! Hope you get more in the morning! How far was your first young bird toss at the silo? Also curious when you cut and pull the flights… how far before your first YB race? All the best!
Hey Tom!..yes tough one… That training toss was 3.8 miles (air miles)..I’ll be training the rest of this month probably 20 miles maybe by then…..then no later then June 1st I’ll clip 9&10 flights and locked the birds, June 12-14th Pull the flights, by first first week of August they will be ready to fly, it will take me 2 weeks to put them on shape again, then start road training..5-10-15 and up to 60-65 miles (2 maybe 3 times)..that’s what i did last two seasons…never do more than 65 miles ..many people do even 100 miles.. if you are in the short end I Think you don’t need go 100 miles..also my first race is Sep 23… Don’t know what’s your first race…
@@firebirdloft Sounds like a good plan! My races start the last Saturday in August. I am a little behind where I want to be but it will work out. 60 miles from me is the top of the Sierra Nevadas. I want the birds to see them at least once before the first race. I have a good spot about 67 miles.
Weather here is very bipolar..one hour can be sunny next one rainy….driver said that on the way back it was a nice weather just entering here South Carolina start getting cloudy…but wind, heat and humidity was a big factor, I think..
Wow. That's very different to your previous 400miler when you got 27/27. Good going anyway. Hopefully some will be ok for you to send to 250 this week, but maybe they have all earned a rest.
Definitely did not enjoy this video. Sorry for the loss brother. I lost over half my team last year in those same circumstances. It was suppose to be a nice race, weather took a turn and so did the birds. God bless brother I hope you get a few more back and good luck going forward.
Keep going man.

Yeah , I like tough ones too…but not smashed ones lol
@@firebirdloft Ask yourself why did those few make it and not the others?? Same feed, same training, same loft. Why didn't they make it too.
@@AdrianP_loft my birds not really really smart but they have Balls! Lol..
For me to keep someone as a breeder, needs 2-3 races being consistency .
@@firebirdloft 😂 😂
All things considered 12th is a good place for that grizzle! Hopefully you've got most of them back by now. Best of luck on the next one.
Thanks Silvio! 👍🏻🫲🏻

Good luck Tom!
Wow that is tough race. I hope you get more back.
Yeah , thanks Burak!
Not good! They should have kept more aware of the weather all along the course, including at home. Hopefully you get a few back.
