      I just discovered your vlogs today, but I've already watched a few. I admire as you both work, because you do everything so professionally. It's a huge project that never ends, because even when everything is done, you'll still find things to do. Have joy in it.
      The countryside is beautiful, although all of Italy is.

    Dear Isis and Bertus, I discovered your channel a few weeks back. Since then I watched all your videos with great pleasure. I tried to find similar channels but no other is even close to the atmosphere and quality of yours. I want to thank you both for sharing this part of your life with us. Your property is so beautiful and I admire how much respect and love you have for it, as well as for the nature, materials you use, and each other. This is so special and you can see it in every little and big work you do around the house. It is a joy to watch you living your best life. No wonder you have so many visitors and helpers! I (im)patiently wait for the next video. I hope Velutto is fine and comes back soon. All the best 🌻

    Your cinematography is pure eye candy! Bertus…please buy Isis a new paint brush. Maybe an 1 1/2” Angled Purdy to cut in the window sashes. Maybe in your next vlog you can briefly describe the design features of the surface of your new work bench. Obviously, there is a cutout for a router, but what about the other features. Thank you!

    • @lem12000
      @lem12000 3 месяца назад +2

      No on the brush, just no. In the Netherlands, Belgium, France and all over europe, people have been painting with round brushes for at least the past 300 years and with beautiful paintwork as a result. It's a big misconception that you can't cut in corners with a round brush.

    Heart warming video, & such a magnificent effort on the result of the work bench, & the community spirit shared to get it into position.
    I am a cat lover, so I share your kindness & concern for Valuto. In Australia, it's not uncommon to raise farm house kittens to keep field mice numbers to a minimum. They also become family pets. I have a Russian blue, & live in a big city, I would be devastated if she disappeared. 😢. Love all the improvements you are doing to your beautiful farm property in keeping with traditional remedial practices which are non harmful to the environment but in keeping with tradition.

    if you research removing lead paint using a liquid paint remover rather then electric heat to melt the paint & then a scraper to get the paint off you will find it is safer, faster, easier, & far more efficient. No matter what you use always use the face mask & definitely do all work outside (especially sanding) wear a disposable lab coat over your clothes, cover hair , gloves hands. Enjoy watching your commitment & wish you the best.

    • @storiesfromthecascina
      @storiesfromthecascina  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, this is a yeast bread. I've dabbled in sourdough baking and I would love to do more of it but I let my starter die this winter because I didn't feed it enough. I figured better get "normal" baking into our rythm first, and then go from there. :-)

      @@storiesfromthecascina I just had to start my sourdough starter over this past month, I keep it in fridge when I’m not baking, when I took it out it had a spot of mold on side of jar. Luckily it only took four days to get another going. I still do a lot of commercial yeast breads too as you can get a loaf so quickly.

    Velluto may come back he may be away as I think it is mating season, they reckon from February to October so I hope that is the reason why he is not around, I hope it is. You both have done so much in one year on the property. I can not get over it and all the research you both do on your projects. Your cinematography is amazing and the beauty you capture is out of this world. Bertus did you buy the workshop table top already with those holes and what kind of wood is and what is it called? Have a lovely week.

    • @storiesfromthecascina
      @storiesfromthecascina  3 месяца назад +1

      I considered buying a pattern set to drill the holes myself, then decided on buying the top plates to save me a lot of time and stress and potential oopsies. Getting the table finished in time for doing the windows is more important. The advantage of drilling them yourself is that you can pick a table top wood or very durable multiplex yourself. While the etsy shop where I bought the plates only has them in the softer mdf. Of course mdf is also much cheaper than good quality multiplex. Choices choises choises.
      The system with all the holes is called the MFT system.

    So, the lead paint issue. What if lead isn’t what they say it is? Call me a conspiracy … BUT… research it. Now that I have, rather deeply, I have the firm belief that lead paint is a protective layer in your home against the harmful rays of WiFi, 5G, EMF etc. Hope this alleviates some of your paint stripping worries. All of the best in your amazing project. Loving watching your episodes.

    I hope that new workbench is made, 'flat pack' style. By my estimation in 2 years time you will be converting that workshop into your home and needing to move all that workshop set up to another building on the property. One year to renovate old Farm House, one year to renovate newer farm house and then you will be renovating the cow barn/hay loft into your personal home. I suppose the wine making house will be renovated after that for your mother to move into, unless counsel approves converting the chicken house into a rental property before the winery is approved for conversion/renovation. Intact male cats pick up the scent of female cats in heat for miles around and instinct drives them to go in search of them and impregnate them at all costs. So long as your male cat remains intact he will wander far and wide in his drive to father as many kittens as possible. It is a dangerous time for male cats as they can be careless in their ardor to procreate and put themselves in harms way. This happened to one of our cats when we were living on a farm. We would hear from neighboring farmers that our male cat was hanging around their place, miles away, then several weeks later our cat would return until the drive pulled him away in search of a mate. Eventually he was done in by an encounter with a fox or wolf, as part of his remains were found showing signs that this had happened.

    My feral (domesticated) tomcat would disappear for 2 to 3 days, only to come back very injured looking for medical help. He did this until he was at least 16 years with me. Who knows how old he really was? He died after 19 years with me.

    Hello, my wife and I love your channel. We have talked about moving or at least spending time in the Langhe area. Is the village near your Cascina, with the bell tower and lookout tower, the place where you temporarily lived while you were prepping your place?
    Would you recommend that village as a possible base for exploring the area?
    Thank you for creating this channel. It is our favorite site on YT

      We stayed there for only 2 weeks before we had electricity at the cascina. But that b&b (only one in village) has been sold since and is now no longer used for holiday accomodations.
      Thanks!
