What's wrong with one state and equality for all? Or would you rather give the Nazis their own state, or the KKK their own state, or the Zionists their own state?
Problem is demographics. If everyone is incorporated into one state, it will end up being just another Arab Muslim country. What then? First off, why should Israel commit suicide? Second, in this imaginary country, how will Jews be treated by the majority Witness Lebanon, where under their constitution, powers were to be shared among the Muslims and Christians. Look at what happened?

However, a true democratic secular state is an existential threat to the ethnogra-apartheid state of Israel as it exists now. Quick answer - absolutely not. Even using the 1948 borders would leave 20% of Israeli citizens as 3rd class citizens with few Rights and they would still be suffering under Israel's anti-Arab system of Jim Crow. Even using the UN Plan, Palestine would doubtless be denuded of resources and end up a set of scattered Bantustan-like blobs in the middle of "Greater Zion".

PALESTINE. As one state alone by its historical name as an ancient land from B.C. to A.D. That is it's name forever. One land for Arabs, Jews, Muslims, Christians, and secular all democratically recognized as the State of Palestine.
This talk about the future of the place is becoming more urgent. Because events in the ground can change at a faster rate than we can imagine. As Mr. Rabani explained in the case of Algeria. For a better future and manageable transition we need intelligent and wise people Jews, Palestinians, Americans, and Europeans to start forming a vision on the transition and of the stages for final status.
As always, thank you thank you for bringing these questions to your audience - that’s us - your fellow citizens! As well as everyone else around the world. And the quality of your guests and your conversation with them is outstanding! It’s so good. Thank you.
You're absolutely wrong, Mr. Rabbani. A two-step solution in any form would validate the atrocities committed by Israel and reward them for war crimes. That sets an extremely dangerous precedent for other violent and aggressive occupations and annexations that have yet to be realized.
If israelis want to live in peace and safety they have to project their future in a way that they don't need to depend on the USA, the UK or the EU. Today Israel owns its existence to these three partners and is very dependant on them, especially the USA. On the other hand, the three partners owe their success to liberal democracy, which is in decline and threatening a shut down. If democracy sinks in the USA, its source of power, the dollar, sinks along. And without it's major source of power, the American empire will start to end, bringing its partners along, since they're all interdependent. Where else would Israel find such generous and complicit partners to ensure it's security and survival?
Most people here are dreaming, Israel was (from 48), is and will be where it is now. If the Palestinians want to seat and talk it´s fine, let´s see what happen. But using force and violence this will happen again and again en the coming years. The Palestinians have the ball on the courtyard and have to decide what´s best for them.
It is unimaginable that in the future Israel can continue existing as an Apartheid settler colonial state. It is also unimaginable that Israeli society is capable of being anything else but Apartheid settler colonial state.
I don’t think that France and Algeria is a good example of a two-state solution as they are on two different continents with completely different cultures prior to the French annexing Algeria. A better example is Cyprus: Greek speaking and Turkish speaking people live separately on the island of Cyprus with an uneasy peace between the two “nations”.
That is how the tail wags the dog. The relationship between (Is Real) and the U.S. is one of (Para Site) and host. No matter how outrageously cruel (Is Real) continues to get Billions in aid.
There is no other way to end this situation but to dezionize israel and establish a one secular democratic state with equality for all citizens regardless of religion. Two states is dead a while ago , it is not even practical, and even if it is doable.' it would never solve the problem for many reasons, and the only people who understand this issue are the refugees who were kicked out of their homes, land, and country. We who live nicely in Europe or North America can never feel or appreciate the meaning (as Palestinians) of being irradiated by violence from where you and your family were living for centuries or even thousands of years. If the world really wants to finish this tragedy once and for all, the only practical solution is the One- State secular democratic with equality of rights and obligations for Palestinians Christians and Muslims and jews . No one on earth can dismantle the israeli settlements with almost a million fanatic settlers , and no one on earth can convince those almost seven million Palestinian refugees to abandon their dream of being able to go back to their ancestral villages, towns, and cities which are now part of israel.
An interesting question from the Arab side. Implication: It is Israel that does not deserve a two-state solution. So why is Israel criticized for rejecting a two-state solution to benefit the Palestinians?
Neither a one state nor a 2-state solution will be viable until both sides recognize the others right to exist. Furthermore, Israel has to accept responsibility for what it's done since 1948.
I use that for most shows but never when Mouin speaks. His measured nuanced clarity, profound intelligence and beautiful enunciation needs to be fully savoured

A one state equal rights for all ethnic groups and religions , one person one vote is ideal . But like Dr.Finkelstein I just don't think its possible for generations, perhaps way off into the distant future yes . I do staunchly support the back to the pre Egypt, Syria, Jordan vs Israel war 1967 borders , but i think this will have to be incremental . The only government that can hasten the 2 state pre 1967 war borders is the US . but don't hold your breath .
Good question, at this point. I don’t know if Israel will ever be humbled to admit their clear, obvious crimes.. Or “allow” international law to matter.
One state solution is a terrible idea. Both sides have armed, violent, extremist wings that want full territorial control. These groups are not trying to share political power. Even if most Israelis/Palestinians could coexist in a one party state, I have no faith that a violent minority wouldn't cause a greater catastrophe. It's better to keep the two groups separate, with their own spheres of influence and sense of control.

The international community could, if it wanted to, occupy both Israel AND Palestine. If it wanted to, it could strip the Israel's of Israel and hand it to Palestinians lock stock and barrel, forcing Israels into the now destroyed Gaza strip and West Bank.
Israel as a nuclear power makes political settlement beyond oligarchs making deals for the free flow of capital very difficult/impossible. The relinquishing of Israels nuclear arsenal, and allowing multinational observers in, rather than an arms race in southeast asia is the only way to ensure long term peace and stability, as, to be frank, I dont know how after the genocide there could ever be a one state solution while this generation still lives. I think a one state solution could be a reality 50 years from now, but Palestinians having autonomy now instead of some far off vision of the future is most important. And a return to 67 borders is quite simply a non-negotiable reality if Israel wants any semblance of peace, which I'm not sure they do. The time to fight fascism is before it takes root in the population, because once it does, well, we only need look as far as Gaza to see what happens.

It should be a one state solution, the Palestinian state with full sovereignty but whereby should jewish people want to live there they need to become a citizen and swear to uphold the laws of Palestine... exactly like you have to do in the US.
disgusting genocidal take
At the independence of Algeria 1 million settlers left overnight back to France, so not to live under an Algerian independent state. So I agree with Mr Rabbani it is possible and a matter of political will.
Things are different in the West Bank. Quite a relevant part of the population are filled with messianic fervour that they’re fulfilling God’s promise. Getting them to leave or have equal rights with Palestinians will result in a lot of violence, I’m afraid, it might even end up in civil war..
“The file concerning the accreditation of Israel is closed, the observer status is withdrawn from this country which is committing genocide in Palestine, Israel was not invited to this summit” ~ AZALI Assoumani President of the African Union, February 2024
Recalling that this genocidal entity had attempted a forced “intrusion” in 2023, during the previous African summit, but its delegation had been chased from the headquarters of the African Union.
Both need to be a single secular state. No religious punitive-state authoritarianism: Neither Jewish nor Muslim.
One person, one vote.
Just "voting" is NEVER enough - just look at the Plutocracy/Kleptocracy here in the "United" States.
Yeah cause secular states and countries are doing so well. Democracy is amazing isn't it. Please.
@@aishaarshadalam3412 Secular states are 1000x less authoritarian than religious states. You know that’s true.
Don’t mislead others here.
@@user-wl2xl5hm7k Hmm, one can wonder which is worse to be living in: a "religious" state like Saudi Arabia that doesn't pretend to be a "democracy" or a hypocritical country like the USA which is run on a small group's notion of "Christian principles" enshrined in laws - like those against Abortion, etc.
As for 1000x times less authoritarian, that's simply NOT TRUE. Saudi Arabia, Israel, Russia, China and the U.S. are EQUALLY as authoritarian.
Oh islamic states work fantastic, right? People marrying their cousins which leads to a low IQ, mass violence against women, brutal punishments etc@@aishaarshadalam3412
Will a 2-state solution get rid of Apartheid? 1968 borders. How about 1948 borders.
Still problematic without and potential right to return, or at least reparations for the Nakba-displaced Palestinians.
@@chetdudeweb707 What border year would you like to go back to?
@@artsahobby123 That's not up to me. I'd prefer the 14+ million people there become enlightened and create the first truly Democratic "State" on Earth with full Rights for every person living there. (It's fer-damn-sure we don't have that HERE).
Alas, they don't have any real models to work from although, as I've suggested, Northern Ireland and South African partial reconciliations in the recent past tells us that even violently divided groups can move from armed conflict and oppression to achieving a degree of domestic Peace.
No state has the right to exist...not Yugoslavia, not the Kingdom of Sikkim, and not the Republic of Kosova.
The Israeli propaganda and talking point can't hold water.
It is a dream, there is no solution without given what it was taken!
Mouin is incredible. When he speaks, there is a transfer of a LOT of information. He’s highly coherent.
The answer is no. One state. Palestine.
Mouin Rabbani I am so proud that you are from the Netherlands. I did not know this. You are so wise and you have so much knowledge
Tank Vs 6 yr old girl ...
Thank you.
Appreciate the content you’re putting out!keep going
Great take. States have no inherent right to exist. People have a right to exist.
israel shud lean to play well with others....why do palestine children look more at ease and happier than israelis.....imo
Kudos for your clarity Mr. Rabbani!
Very well put.
Absolutely agree with this gentleman. Straight on point.
One state and name New Palestine, free palestine
Wow. Excellent analysis by Dr. Rabbani
You're absolutely wrong, Mr. Rabbani. A two-step solution in any form would validate the atrocities committed by Israel and reward them for war crimes. That sets an extremely dangerous precedent for other violent and aggressive occupations and annexations that have yet to be realized.
Thank you Katie for having Palestinian analyst Mouin Rabbani on your show.
A state that does not recognize UN laws has lost all rights
Thanks Katie, I totally agree with Rabani's reasoning.
The colonists should return home, and the indigenous people allowed to govern themselves...what else?
This is the real world, dont be childish.
Short answer… they do not.
I like the way he talks.
Start with a two state solution. Allow future generations to decide if they wish to merge into a single state.
Good question. No.
Thanks!
reminds me of The war between greeks and turks in cyprus .
That is how the tail wags the dog.
The relationship between (Is Real) and the U.S. is one of (Para Site) and host. No matter how outrageously cruel (Is Real) continues to get Billions in aid.
Palestine 🇵🇸 ❤
One state... Palistine
It would be best to call the one state something OTHER than "Israel", "Greater Zion" or "Palestine".
I totally agree with this man
Comment for mouin
As Miko Peled said, there is no virtue in a 2 state solution
A Palestinian State should have been created simultaneously with the Israeli State.
Mouin Rabbani, the reason why whatsapp invented the x2 voice note option
I use that for most shows but never when Mouin speaks. His measured nuanced clarity, profound intelligence and beautiful enunciation needs to be fully savoured

"Should we be unable to find a way to honest co-operation and honest pacts with the Arabs then we have learnt absolutely nothing from our 2,000 years of suffering and will deserve our fate" - Albert Einstein
"without forcing anyone to leave"
I agree with this for every single person in Palestine - except for first generation Settlers. They need to go home.
Are they by any chance now regretting that they did and inadvertantly allowed this to happen !?
I think the mental state of the settlers is a huge issue, you find a solution for the settlers because they’re very violent
Good question, at this point. I don’t know if Israel will ever be humbled to admit their clear, obvious crimes.. Or “allow” international law to matter.
Of course not.
At this point they only deserve to give all the land back
A good man..
Tick tock Israel time is running out for 2 states.
One state right to return.
Agree, bigly.
You're missing the point here. Does Israel want a two state.
2:08 yes, but was Algeria decimated and obliterated the way that Gaza has been? Gideon Levy says Israel has to be stopped from the outside because they will never do it themselves. Even 8 years ago he said that they were ‘addicted to occupation. ruclips.net/video/DGO3eBxQX7Q/видео.htmlsi=g2IQzHXfFyqFjm7X
The international community could, if it wanted to, occupy both Israel AND Palestine.
If it wanted to, it could strip the Israel's of Israel and hand it to Palestinians lock stock and barrel, forcing Israels into the now destroyed Gaza strip and West Bank.
2 state solution is better than the so called 1 state solution.
A Palestinian saying ISRAEL is addicted to violence? LOL?
I don't believe a 2 state solution is possible at this point only a one just State where Palestinians and Jews and Christians are equal citizens in one land
That is like a asking r@pe victim marrying his r@pist.
For the majority Israelis Palestinians are subhumans, animals have more rights in Israel than Palestinians have.
We must ask the Palestinian ambassador, South Africa Andrew Feinstein and Norman, before deciding the fate of the people. Barb
Gaza destroyed what ever possibilities of a two state solution on the 7th.

Sorry, not 1967 boundaries; 1947 boundaries.
All countries are colonial projects, all came about in the same way or similar ways the majority of the time. If Israel has no right to exist nor Palestine as a state.
No !
1 democratic state... Right of return of all Palestinians.. Then elections..
