      The irony of all of this is that while a baboon can potentially fire a cannon, or indeed a crossbow, the starting premise of them throwing darts is impossible. Humans tend to assume that anything with hands can throw things, but that's actually anthropomorphising them, humans are almost *uniquely* good at throwing things because of the way our shoulders work. Baboons can't throw for shit, they're anatomically incapable of it.

    Assuming your DM lets you pick your own beast for conjure animals, baboons would "obey any verbal commands" and have an intelligence of 4. Equipping them with weapons and expecting them to know how to use them feels like a stretch.

      Which is why necromancer are superior. Mental link. They know what you actually want. If you can figure it out then so can they. A 4 intelligence dumbie can swing an item without proficiency just fine in dnd. Other spells specify that the summoned creatures follow your command "to the best of their abilities" or specifies that they can pervert the intent, implying that normal conjured creatures follow specifically what YOU ordered them for the intent you ordered them

      If you are a party of 3 or more just assign 3 baboons to each party member and command them to repeat anything they do in each cannon
      That way your party just have to load,aim and shoot one time to make the monkeys repeat the steps and the DM would approve it because it's funny and ingenious

    • @renatocorvaro6924
      @renatocorvaro6924 Год назад +12

      Why? Player characters can have an Intelligence of 4 if you roll stats, and still use any weapon. And baboons already use tools in real life.

    • @bobon123
      @bobon123 Год назад +1

      This is a really bad view on Conjure Animals. Intelligence 4 tells us that they have a -3 to Arcana and Nature checks, nothing more. If the spell tells us that they obey the commands, they do. If it is not possible to have an animal that "obey verbal commands" but still have the same mental capacity of an animal, clearly they don't. If you assume that animals conjured with Conjure Animals act as normal animals, _all_ verbal commands would not be understood. Also, conjured animals are actually fey.
      This kind of DM nitpicking trying to thwart the PC plans is really toxic and create a very bad tension at the table, while the PC do not feel cool and they feel that the DM is acting to protect his encounters, as an opponent in a tabletop.

    Idea: Eight baboons armed with Rapiers (the highest damage finesse melee weapon). Same damage (38.8dmg vs 15AC w/ advantage) as light crossbows.
    Would be easier to transport 8 rapiers than 8 light crossbows on a horse or cart, for example. And also simpler to use, if the DM rules that a 4 Int is not enough to operate crossbows effectively.
    Alternatively, an adventurer could easily carry 8 daggers on them at almost all times, which is still a significant boost over their Bite attack (25dpr vs 8.9dpr).

    It takes a fair deal of training and effort for a human to fire a cannon, a Baboon would be lost trying to figure out which brush to use first between the wet one, the dry one, the squiggly one and so forth. A creature with a 4 INT who’s greatest show of tool use is crushing a scorpion with a rock or poking around a termites nest with a stick would have no chance of loading and firing a cannon in correct sequence. A DM could choose to allow it of course but it would be a pretty monstrous stretch.
    Skeletons however would be able to be trained in advance since they unlive for more than 1 hour and can specifically use siege weapons as part of their description. Necromancers rejoice.

    If you hire villagers, they are much less likely to shoot themselves by accident. Plus you get to use your 3rd level spell slot protecting them rather than conjuring them.

    If you could convince your DM to let you get your hands on 8 wands of magic missile, it’s 84 DPR. It might be more appropriate with something like Tiny Servant though.

    One problem with the light crossbow and anti-matter rifle calculations, they would need to be out of 5-feet to not have disadvantage, so to get pack tactics, either one monkey would need to be shooting with disadvantage or two neutral (or you could give those two rapiers or smt).

    Hey Kobold! I have a Question for you. Since you were talking about oversized Weapons in your add or sponsor or wathever. So i wanted to ask you, can you improve the Size of the Blade created by the Shadow Blade Spell (Like you cast Shadow Blade, and then Someone else casts Enlarge/Reduce on you)? And if yes, does that also double or triple the Damage dice (Assuming you are a Medium Creature)? It's been bugging me for a while, which is why i asked you...

    • @PackTactics
      @PackTactics  Год назад +2

      Good question. This is a fun one. It been talked about in optimization for a long time before I even made the video. It does counts as a simple melee weapon and you double the weapon dice if the creature is large so it would work in theory. Now, I say theory because I haven't sat on it long enough or argued enough with it to be 100% convinced but I do believe people should talk about it. You know?
      The reason why I didn't bring it up in my oversized weapons video is because oversized weapons is already a hard pill to swallow for people.
      People are usually afraid of a lot of dice. They're still having a hard time accepting that oversized weapons is rules as written and players can absolutely use them.

    Typical Gnomes always ruining the fun! You’d think they could tell the difference between Crocodiles and Alligators, but that just goes to show they aren’t always as smart as they claim to be. That and they probably aren’t from Florida, Australia or Louisiana.

    Any discussion of firearms in D&D might include a mention of which campaigns have guns. It's not quite as straightforward as simply "Yes unless your DM says No." Certainly worlds have established guns in the lore and artwork thus.an expectation that murder-hobos will encounter guns from time to time.
    Canon D&D Settings in which one can probably purchase black powder weapons: Eberon, Forgotten Realms (only available to nobility though), Wildemount (Exandria), Spelljammer, Ravnica, and Planescape
    Settings which probably don't have firearms available for purchase: Faewild, Grey Hawk, Al Quadim, and generic "world of D&D"
    I don't know: Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Theros, Dragonlance, Birthright, Kalamar,.Lankhmar, Mystara, and your dingeonmaster's homebrew world
