His main audience base is young men (youth). He is doing them a great service by informing them on political facts.
In saying that, I'd never vote for a political party with gender quotas. A preference of "equality" over competence, no thanks. I wouldn't vote for the Greens because their leader doesn't think it's ok to be white, he thinks it's some fucked up racist shit just having white skin and not feeling ashamed over it. Friendlyjordies gives 1000 reasons not to vote liberal so that's covered.

Here's an explanation about how "the liberals blocked the labor party from doing this [the Malaysian solution] in the high court": theconversation.com/malaysia-solution-high-court-ruling-explained-3154
So the Malaysian solution must have been a ministerial decision that was illegal by breaking the Migration Act, and the Liberals wouldn't have agreed to help change that law for them. Labor didn't have a majority in either house of parliament at that point so it couldn't change the law by itself.

Processing people onshore only results in more drownings if we do nothing about the illegal and immoral human trafficking that goes on to start it all. If we had a comprehensive application process working with foreign governments and international agencies we could bring people seeking asylum here safely in planes and real boats and process them either on-shore or in their country of origin. If we are to act on our humanitarian duty to help those in need form countries in dire circumstances, we must do more to a) stop putting them in that situation (stop bombing their fucking houses) and b) get them here safely and resettle them efficiently. We can't just let them suffer for months on a boat over here where people drown and starve after paying their life savings and dodging bullets to get there. We need to work with them, foreign governments, and anyone who wants to help to ensure that no human being is left without their right to life and dignity.

An important mechanism in this stuff is this thing where the law says the government should do something and the government (as in the cabinet - the ministers) doesn't want it done, so they try to stop the pubic service from doing it. They don't actually completely stop, they just do as little as they think they can get away with.
That's what it must be when the processing time for refugees goes from 76 days to 437 days.
That's what it must be when Centrelink makes people wait hours to be able to talk to them and claim benefits they're legally entitled to.
Maybe it is illegal, but because they do a little bit of the work, it's harder to take them to court for it. It's a grey area because these laws don't have SLAs built into them.
I haven't read the ABC and SBS's charters, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're are actually breaking them due to management decisions by people that don't want them to function.
And the thing about this is, how many people even know that this can happen?
I mean the government is the government, right? And it makes the law, so why would it even disobey itself? Why break the law when you are the law?
Only by knowing the mechanisms of our democracy can you know about this stuff.
I think it leads people who don't understand to think that the government is not just callous, but cruel, because of the services it promises and doesn't provide.

Shanky, language is subjective, but that does not make language not a real thing. Subjective things are real.
There is such a thing as the left & the right in describing political ideologies. Just a fact.
Regardless of the reason why we call these differences in political leanings the “left” & the “right”, is the French political split & which side of their Chamber of Representatives that they sat on.
The terms left & right is now a useful part of our vernacular. The left & the right is how we describe the broad differences between political ideologies.
You can fight against the common usage of language if you like, but that seems a little self defeating.
The confusion comes from corporations promoting themselves as “left” & in any way objective.
As you have said before, corporations are the problem, not how most people describe the difference between political leanings.

I just had a look at the SBS Australia facebook page after about 10 years of living abroad. Holy christ in a chicken basket. When I left, SBS was the most credible news channel in the country. Their Facebook page is literally nothing but post after post about sexism against women. What in the world is going on????? It's even worse than Buzzfeed and I never thought I would ever hear myself saying that.

Argh.

Both sides hate the ABC and SBS, and that also comes with the fact that also both major political parties don't represent Australia. I see labor winning the next election based on the nature of politics (pendulum and all) but I also predict smaller parties will gain a few seats this upcoming election as protest to both parties this will probably effect the liberals to a greater extent than labor and we may see further right wing parties of the likes of One Nation and Clive Palmer's party. So Labor will be around for a good while. But the bigger message to all this, is to stop squabbling over party politics and elect people who best represent your ideas for your electorate.

I've got to pick you up on your argument about Malaysia at around 4:04. Malaysia is not a fine alternative if you're a Shiite Muslim who has fled your home country to escape religious persecution. Shiites face significant persecution at a governmental and social level in many parts of Malaysia. It's even worst for atheists. I'm sure it's a fine holiday destination if you're Christian or the right kind of Muslim, but it's hardly secular in the same way that Australia is, and while it may be developed, all that means is that the poor shits will be picked up in modern vans and persecuted in air conditioning.

  • @katherinemorelle7115

Ehhhh, onshore vs offshore (deterrent) aren’t the only two options though.
Now I’m someone that greatly dislikes the Refugee convo here. It’s shithouse. But- there are more options than dying on the rocks of Christmas Island v being jailed on Nauru for the rest of your life.
What would I prefer? Well it would be very difficult to pull off, I admit, but I’d like to see regional processing agreements in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, with regional settlement agreements with a few different countries in the area (us and NZ being the major two, most likely). So refugees rock up to UN recognises Refugee processing centres, get processed (we know it doesn’t have to take forever- because all the people still “being processed” have in fact, already been processed. They’re refugees), then they get flown to where they are to be settled.
No forever gulags in tropical islands, no boats splintering into bits off Christmas Island. Difficult to pull off in that it requires quite a bit of diplomacy, but it benefits those processing countries because they’ve now got a back up of refugees, and we aren’t being inhumane arses anymore. So I think it’s worth a shot at least.
There are differences between Labor and Liberal. There’s even some important context there. But I don’t think it’s acceptable to treat refugees the way we have been treating them. They’re human beings, not pests to be used for the bogan vote. Also, fuck John Howard for so fucking up our national discourse on this issue. I hope he dies in a really embarrassing way.

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 4 года назад

Also, Malaysia might be an appropriate settlement country for some- as long as there’s help in getting settled. But for others, very much not a good idea.
It’s like PNG- it’s illegal to be gay in PNG, yet we’ve left queer refugees there to rot. That’s wrong. It would also be wrong to force them to go to Malaysia, where it is also illegal to be gay. So it was never a perfect solution.

Jordy, your mention of having lived in Malaysia at 4:02 is one of the very first times I've ever heard you give us some backstory as to your worldly experience, and, well, I liked it (albeit only a snippet). More of this please. I know there's more about you that allows you to comment on these matters so well, and it would further add to your already decent credibility to give us a little more backstory about yourself.
As for the 'quote-unquote' "migrants taking over Australia", well, the migrants people seem to complain about most are the Africans, and I've come to realise that 99.9999% of Australians don't know how to do basic research and maths. The fact is, only around 12k-15k Africans have migrated to Australia in the last decade, and based on Australia's current population of 25M, that's literally one African in every 2,000 people, yep, that's 0.05% of the total population of people living in this country, oh, and around 30% of those "Africans" are actually white South Africans.
So, to all the people running around saying "they're gunna breed and breed and out-populate us Aussies, well, FAR more Africans turned up in North America a few hundred years ago, and they STILL only make up 12% of the total population of the USA.
