    I'm using Babble to become fluent in Spanish since I had background in it. It is soooo amazing so far. Worth the money and it is not expensive at all!!! Can't wait until they have Arabic and Japanese.

      Lol. The two are hard when you are trying to learn them at the same time, imo. You'd think that because they are both romance languages, that they would both be easy to pick up at the same time, but I was pretty far in french when I tried to take Spanish and for the life of me...I struggled with spanish. That said, I was also taking a load of other credits and I was only taking spanish because I thought it would be easy, but that wasnt the case for me and I dropped the class.

    I’m doing a little research to see if I should get this 1 year deal to learn spanish and you’re making it look so fun which is what learning should be! I always grow in reading spanish but get really shy with speaking in front of native speakers but it’s not because of them, it my on unnecessary insecurity! Hopeful this will help me build confidence and I can speak it overseas one day!

    Have you come across the "MRS VANDERTRAMP" verbs? (where the verbs that take être are monter, rester, sortir, venir, arriver, naître, descendre, entrer, retourner, tomber, rester, aller, mourir, partir) it's not so much to do with travel as they don't take direct objects (e.g. quitter la maison vs. sortir de la maison)

    • @SarahsParacosm
      @SarahsParacosm  7 лет назад +3

      Yes, you're right! I remember seeing that before but I could never remember all the verbs ;)

    Did you start to dream in french yet? When I was learning from jr high through college, I would dream in written french because I could read and write it much better than I could speak or understand it. I would also automatically translate some of my other notes in french, as in, when I was writing notes in class for say, biology class, my hand would write french words. It was cool and I wish I had the internet back then to find good french movies with subs... because I literally started learning japanese by watching anime. Japanese is much easier to understand and speak though.

    I’m thinking about starting to learn German, I know it’s a very difficult language with plenty of consonants not many vowels, but I just like the Language And obviously English, derived from a lot of Germanic words

      It’s not a difficult language at all. I am native English speaker and I’m almost A2 in a month 1/2. I know Atleast 200 words in German and how to construct sentences.
      What helped me was using duolingo as a soft landing, helped me get my feet wet. Than move on to something more advanced like babbel or pimsleur

    I am having a difficult time deciding between a Memrise or Babbel subscription. Plus Memrise is having a sale right now and I like their videos. Does Memrise eventually do full phrases like Babbel? Any other suggestions...

    • @SarahsParacosm
      @SarahsParacosm  7 лет назад +21

      Memrise is a memorisation tool - it will test you mainly on translation - typing things in English and French and typing what you hear. Memrise is therefore mostly good for vocabulary and there are several 'official' French vocabulary sets on Memrise, though you can add your own words to it if you want longer phrases.
      Babbel however is set out in lessons beginning at complete beginner and advancing to intermediate level and will explain to you how to form sentences, the rules of grammar, spelling, pronunciation etc. Babbel will test your speaking, listening and writing and will 'teach' you step by step like a French course or class. Please see my Babbel lesson demo video: goo.gl/TwRbh7 . In addition there is a memorisation tool, the 'vocabulary review', as seen here.
      In short:
      If you want to retain vocab you already know -> Memrise
      If you want to learn lots of new words quickly -> Memrise
      You want to add your own words/ customise your revision -> Memrise
      You want to know set phrases for travelling abroad, eating in restaurants etc -> Memrise
      You are a complete beginner -> Babbel
      You want to advance your ability level -> Babbel
      You want to learn how to converse in French -> Babbel
      You want to be able to write/understand long, complex texts -> Babbel
      You want to understand French radio/films -> Babbel
      You are serious about learning a language thoroughly and properly -> Babbel
      It really depends what you need the app for! Hope this helps!

    I got their lifetime french deal. On it for 2 weeks. The problem is french is learn by ear not trying to pronounce what you see. Like if you see tu (you) then it pronounce different then what you see. Or ils vs il, where the s is like silent. Anyway, i found the speaking where you record your voice most times I felt I said it right or close but it always tells me I failed. It uses Goolge speech recognition and even if you record the software speaker and play it back to the system that would sometimes failed too. So it's hard because I feel not confident to advance when I don't feel the confident I'm building my pronouncation on foundational words correctly. I wosh they throw in a couple of optional real life sessions to help you correct such verbal mistakes. Maybe like a couple a year.

    Do you ever use Busuu? I don't know which one, Babbel or Busuu, is worth to pay my money. I prefer Busuu. Because its mobile app's reaction time is faster than Babbel. But I have read some bad comment about Busuu. They said they could not cancel the subscription and called that Busuu are theives...It's afraid of me... But Babbel in addition to its slower reaction time, I think its course is a little boring (it makes me want to sleep...) and Grammar tips are shorter than Busuu (I was just free trial so I don't know the truth). A language school in Paris tested me speaking, reading, listening and writing and told me I was B1. I was probably only just over the threshold and I may have got lucky with the subjects that came up.
      I took a CEFR test immediately after completing Babbel (so I had not memorised everything on the review manager) and it told me some elements of B1 were achieved and some not.
      Babbel tell you that you can reach B1 with their programme and I think if you completed all their courses and did the review daily for many months, SOME PEOPLE could reach B1. Depending on level of confidence and experience with languages.
