They are awesome fun. The ones you get on the south coast are amazing. Back in Melbourne, we don’t get those special ones, but they are good fun all the same. I’ll never forget a morning I spent in Narooma with Stu Hindson catching absolute torpedoes. Was a great day
Hey Starlo. Great video, looks like awesome fun! I liked the comment at the beginning describing the "sparse" fly! That's something I learned about a year ago with my flies! Makes all the difference! Keep up the great work!
I fished that estuary (I think it was the same!) about a year ago on my kayak. I stuck the GoPro underwater and it was wall to wall salmon. Great to see!
Since I've taken up light line estuary lure fishing, I've developed a liking for these fish. As for eating, if iki, bled, gutted and iced straight away, they make the grade.
Thanks for the video. I didn't know Aus Salmon were estuary fish as well as in the ocean. It's a very long drive for me to visit the ocean. My local river has carp and not much else. They also put up a good fight. Kind regards MP
Connected to some massive units around Merimbula…at least 5kgs and plenty in the 2-3kg range. But bumped into a bloke who was targetting them on the fly. Being a recent fly fishing convert for trout myself, it felt that this was the right way to go for these magnificent fish and will be bringing my fly rod next time. Although I kinda think a 5wt is a tad undergunned! Thanks for the inspiration Starlo.
I use spin gear more than the fly because I catch my spinning but the fly is debatably more fun as a wise man once said “the tug is the drug” great vid starlo
Hey Starlo! Have you got a video on beginners fly fishing? With affordable entry level gear? Also do you know for far north you can find Australian Salmon on the east coast? Cheers!
This is probably the nearest thing to what you're looking for: ruclips.net/video/Hgjf3cwQOzA/видео.html There's some quite affordable fly gear around these days. The core principles and basics all still apply, regardless of the price of the equipment. Aussie salmon very occasionally stray as far north as QLD's Gold Coast, but they become increasingly less common north of about Forster.
Legend Starlo! I think ill diversify my fishing and picky myself up a fly combo! Shame about the salmon I'm a-little north at the Coffs region, but see fly fishermen regularly at a smaller creek chasing the mullet on fly. So ill give that a go!
We used to get Australian salmon off the W.A. Coast Along with big bull taylor……. 2kg fish (which sometimes had worms when you gutted them.) But in terms of eating, the salmon we’re not that good to eat…..
so many unanswered questions regarding this species. how much do they damage estuaries by gathering in massive schools entering and wiping out bait and other nurseries of species? like trout, redfin etc it is not a simple exercise valuing this fish. certainly a great target.
Nice to hear the bell birds in the background
You’re an excellent fisherman.
Don’t ever forget it.
Sincerely 💛
A subscriber.
I appreciate that!
What a great spot to fly fish for them! Thanks for another excellent video.
Thanks for watching!

Amazing aren't they? So good to see.
Nice one mate, some solid sambos there! So cool to get them wading like that too!
Thanks 👍
Love catching Aussie Salmon of the beach here in SA. Catch and realise but keep a few for cray bait with in the season.🦞
Nice one!
Great video Steve 👍🎣💯
Thanks 👍
Looked great fun Starlo. I got a couple of queenies last week they go alright as do blue threadfin salmon I catch off the beach 😊
Nice 👍

Agreed.
Wouldnt mind some fly gear but by geez the price
Great footage Starlo.well played
There's actually some pretty affordable and quite good fly gear around these days.

You should!
But I don’t think u can in nsw
@@CharlesStevens-qy4bz why is that? This video was made in NSW.
Wait really
Where abouts is it if u don’t mind me asking 👍

Yep, true!
I guess you can always use a streamer fly (is that the right term?) on a long light spin rod too@@StarloGetsReel
@@yep.fishing yep, or a smallish, lightly-weighted soft plastic.
Nice video as always Starlo but are these strong in the water and air good eating ?
Not too bad. There are a lot better fish to eat, but if you look after them and know how to prepare them, they’re not bad at all. 👍
We used to call them mini-marlin.

Only been happening for about 20 million years, I’d imagine, and the estuaries have managed. 😉
Carwhy,. Now when anyone suggests that these fish are easy challenge them to catch one over lineweight!
Aren’t they fun on fly!
Absolutely.
They get such a bad wrap compared to Kingies. Like Salmon are rats but a rat kingy has god like status for light tackle anglers.
They're all good in my book.
