The nocturnes of Fauré sample all his evolution, from the chopinian beginning to the harsh and dissonant - but always tonal - last pieces. Jean Hubeau is a great specialist of the French piano music of these times. We have here an authoritative inerpretation of the 13 nocturnes of Gabriel Fauré.

Musique merveilleuse! Désolé pour mon mauvais français.

His nocturnes are some of the best ever writing for the instrument. The influence on the young Debussy is clear with its emphasis on harmony, but he always manages to create a hummable melody here and there.

Dear friend, even considering the dates, I do not think that Debussy's influence was so eminent. He presisely explainned that he made srong and conscious efforts to espcape this major influence. I think ythat the very roots can be found in a clever assimination of Nidermeyers's school principles, plus a strong study of vrry gret acompsoers, among which Mozart and Schumann (without its typically Romantic imetus). Among his contempraries, he HATED Massenet and was a great support and intimate friend of Saint-Saens all his life long. .

RUclips has some nerve putting ads in the middle of pieces and monetizing this video to OTHER recordings of these pieces! Their copyright policies are a disgrace!

Fauré, who perfectly known the classical and pre-clsical musical syntas - including Gregorian, enriched it with spelendid and coherent finding of hisd own. Yes, this is possible, he proved it greatly and with splendor. considering the prostitution of that world made by Strabvinsky in the 1920's and some other negiligle ""artists, please let me propose another word which, after years of thought, appears to me to better render the trancendantal art of this Master:
    GABRIEL FAURE WAS A META-CLASSICS.

For me the 12th nocturne is as lofty as late sonatas of Beethoven or Schubert. Quite metaphysical.

I don't like ads interrupting the pieces, but this is worse: ads interrupting the middle of the individual pieces. I swear no one is allowed even a momentary respite from this capitalist dystopian hellhole. It's inhuman.
