I think ythat the very roots can be found in a clever assimination of Nidermeyers's school principles, plus a strong study of vrry gret acompsoers, among which Mozart and Schumann (without its typically Romantic imetus). Among his contempraries, he HATED Massenet and was a great support and intimate friend of Saint-Saens all his life long. .
