Great video and advice. A group of 10 of us are going in May of 2025. We are spending a few days before we go on a cruise. We decided to get taxis to our hotel from the airport and to the cruise port.
My son works for Meta and gave me the pair for Christmas. I LOVE them. I am surprised I do not more people with them. Sound quality is great and I never liked ear buds. Best gadget ever!
We are flying from NY-Florence and staying in (Firenze, San Frediano), and flying out of Rome (staying in Trastevere, Lazio) back to NY. Can you tell me where I need to fly into and fly out of … I’m at the point of making the flights now; and also, do I need to take the speed trains to these areas. This is confusing. Please help and tell me what to do😂
There is a small airport near Florence but for international flights best to fly into Rome FCO airport and take the high speed train from there, From the FCO airport you will need to take the Leonardo Express train to the Rome Termini train station, about 40 minutes and then hop on a high speed train from there, There are 2 train companies in Italy with high speed trains, Italo and Trenitalia, Trains depart to Florence about every 10 minutes and takes about 1.5 hours, Train is very comfortable with wifi and assigned seats. I hope that helps
Been to Rome 5 times and only recently discovered the Freenow app and it was extremely useful. Getting to Trastevere from Termini area using the metro and trams are very cumbersome and the various disruptions due to the many many upgrading works for the Jubilee going on did not help.
Need advice. So what does this Jubilee entail? Is it wise to visit Rome then? We are trying to plan a trip for 2025 and spend about 2-3 days in Rome and Florence. Should we avoid Rome all together because of this Jubilee? Are the crowds even worse? I’m assuming yes? We are planning to be there in late September.
I would make it a point to go in 2025 and here is why. It only happens every 25 year and the city of Rome has been working hard all year long to ge the city ready for the Jubilee. Everything will be much cleaning, scaffolding covering monuments and building will almost all be down and the city will look great. If may be more crowded more ofter but that goes with any year I just think during the Jubilee it will be crowded not just on weekends and peak season. Just get you reservations set early because the longer you wait the more expensive it will become. Just an opinion: the background music is too loud and distracting. In someplaces it's hard to hear you over it. And the volume difference between the fade in and out is unpleasant. I'm subscribed and love your content!!
Great video. I'm saving this one, very useful tips. Going next summer (missus is a teacher so her school year ends on June 26th). We'll be staying at an Airbnb about 10-15 min walk from St. Peter's Basilica near Roma San Pietro Station. I saw that from FCO, we have two trains and a 10 minute walk to take to get to our Airbnb, so I think we'll be fine, we did the RER B and métro line 10 when we we from CDG to our Airbnb in the 15th arrondissement last summer when we went to Paris. We'll try to pack lightly, even for a 2 week trip. I already have the Italo app on my phone, so I'll be using that to book our train from Termini to Salerno when we go on our second leg of the trip to the Amalfi coast. The passports will stay at the apartment, would be nice to not have to go to the Canadian embassy, lol! Bonjour! Hi! from Montréal, QC!
May I recommend getting taxi from FCO fora flat €50. After a long flight 2 more trains and a 10 minute walk. that will likely be closer to 20. If there are 2 of you the price will be very similar but the taxi will take you to your front door. Leonardo €14 per person, second train €1,5 per person. For €19 more you will save yourself from getting lost, time and stress. Just an idea for you to consider. I went to the US embassy without a passport. They let us in, not sure about Canada?
@@RozierRoma we'll have our daughter with us, who will be 17 by the time we go on our trip. I haven't taken a taxi, even here in Montreal in over 25 years, haha. But I will take that under advisement, we're still in the planning stages. Actually, we're leaving for a 4 day road trip to Ottawa tomorrow, which is a 2.5 hour drive from here with a detour in St. Albert, ON for some cheese curds. For our previous trips, we left our passports at the hotel/Airbnb in a safe location.
With three of you, it’s a no-brainer take a taxi. I know it’s a little bit intimidating but in Rome if you get on an official taxi which they have lined up right in front of the airport, it’s a flat €50. They have an optional charge they can charge you up to one euro per bag, some drivers charge it, some don’t. Before getting in just confirmed the fair if they state otherwise you’re likely not in a official taxi. Official taxes are white and they say tax on top the black sedans charge what they want, but you can also negotiate with them, but it’s better just to take a taxi. Get the app free now. On the app it gives you the option for a flat fee. You do not need free now from the airport, but if you ever need to get a taxi in Rome it will come in very handy, especially if you want a taxi to come to you

How can I order your travel guide so my son & I will know about all the events between 4 May to 15 May? Will the Baths of Caracalla start performing operas or concerts in May of 2025? I can’t find a schedule!
go to www.RomeTravelGuida.com and use code "RTG" for 30% off. As of know the guide does not have too much as far as a calendar of events but that is certainly something I need to look into adding.
All taxis are supposed to accept credit cards but sometimes they play dumb and say they want cash because with cash they do not have to pay any service fees. Let the driver know upfront you are paying by credit card and they always say ok, if you do not at end they may say their payment processor is down. Also if you are using FREEnow app you can set it up to pay through app
Hey Scott if I had a 1 Day layover in Rome how could I take advantage of seeing the most sights. Coming from the airport can you suggest an itinerary if I arrive mid morning?
Check this video out.ruclips.net/video/tiQ7qScWy4A/видео.htmlsi=xULudWhdXcujX2nw. If I were arriving mid morning I would start at the colosseum and then head to The Vatican at the end or the next morning. If you start at the Vatican you will spend too much time in line making it harder to see everything else. Sometimes tate afternoon the lines at The vatican are more manageable. Best of luck!.
You mentioned 3 cathedrals in Rome that are great to visit, I didn't write them down and now can't find them, Can you send me the names? Thanks for the help!
Thanks for a really informative video. We were planning a 2 week trip in March 2025 incl abt 5 days in Rome. However, i just read a few articles that say Rome is going to be extra busy bcos of Jubilee year with over 3 times of regular visitors..shld we postpone our trip to March 2026?
The Jubilee only happens every 25 years and if you have the opportunity to go do not miss. Rome will look its best and it may be more crowded but Rome is always crowded, just get your accommodations set up early. March is a great month in Rome! DO NOT MISS!!!!
Most, if not all will be down by the end of December. They have been getting city ready for the jubilee that starts on December 24 and runs through the entire year of 2025
In Rome just when you get on, but there a just a few stations that you need to tap on way out to get turnstyles to open. You would think they would do all or none.
Have you done the Scavi Tour? I did that about 15 years ago and they bring you into St. Peter’s from the back so again no lines. Not sure if they still do that though.
Not sure if they still call it that but they still have tickets to the museum that include skip line into the basilica but you will still have issue if you want to climb the dome and plus I am not a big fan on Vatican Museum, too crowded, too many statue, too many paintings for me.
@@RozierRoma this is a tour that goes underground in the excavated areas. You actually enter through the back. Was really neat to see but some areas were really tight underground.

I agree in Rome it is not worth it to pay for all the amenities offered by larger hotels, no time to use them. Boutique hotels and Airbnb are the way to get. Haing an airbnb is nice if you get one with a kitchen. Cooking some meals at home can save you as well as create an authentic experience. Shopping at the supermarkets is an expreience in itself. Keep you eye out os you get closer you can find places for about €100 per night. Another great option is to stay in Tivoli just outside of Rome for much less, have a great city with lots to do and take the train in to Rome when you want. The train costs about €3 each way and takes about 45 minutes
@@RozierRoma no ticket to go up to the top of the dome right? How about the Vatican garden? I couldn’t find the Vatican garden ticket sales anywhere. I found a combine tour that included in the Vatican museum tour. However I did the museum already and want to visit the garden only.
To go to top of dome you will need a ticket that can only be purchased on site for about €10. It open at 8am so get in line at 7:45am and you will be at front and be first to top. When you get down than you can tour the basilica. I do not know about the gardens. Best bet is to book a tour I think
About tap and go: You CAN use the same card for two people if you use two different turnstiles. My husband would tap me through then use a different gate to tap himself through. So, two devices, two cards, or two turnstiles.
Well that may be a work around for the metro but what happens when you get on a bus? How will it track who gets credit for the metro ride? The advantage of Tap & Go is not just being able to pay but so it tracks you so it will not charge you more than 7 euros in a 24 hour period. Sounds like it worked for you!
So many places to eat from €10 to over €300, What is nice about eating dinner in Rome at a place with great atmosphere is thet you get the table for the evening. 3 hours to enjoy dinner is not uncommon. Gelato in Rome is more good than bad. Very few bad places they seem to have have gelato down. There are a couple that really stand out however. Frigidarium near Piazza Navona is special and also Come il Latte. Not is a great location but worth seeking out. Tiramisu is everywhere. The most popular is 2 sizes, also near Piazza Navona and it is good but I am still searching for great.
What's going on in Rome now with all the construction? Any tips for someone going to Rome in late November 2024? What will be covered in scaffolding??!?
Rome is getting ready for a huge celebration that takes place every 25 years. It’s called the jubilee. Lots of projects are in a construction with hopes of getting most of it completed by the end of the year maybe in November things will be less under construction? It’s kind of a bummer when things are covered in scaffolding, but there’s so much to see. I’m sure it will still be a lot of fun.
OK in the video I said only implying that 50 is not much but consider this. When I get to Rome I have just spent 15 to 20 hours in planes and I am with my wife so there are 2 of us. We are tired and we want to get to out apartment as quick as possible. If we take the bus that is 16 euros and once we get the the train station then we have to search for a bus or metro with all our luggage and then we have to walk from the metro or bus stop to our airbnb that can be still several hundred meters away on street thet are confusing. if we do not get lost we are looking at 2 to 3 hours to get there. If I get a taxi at the train station that will cost about 15 euros more but depending on time of day the taxi line could be lonking. So for us bus then bus is 19 euros so I save 31 euros but I loose 2 hours of my time plus with all my bags on public transportation I become a pickpockets target. If I get a taxi at the station 28 euros so we save 22 euros over a taxi from the airport & I loose about 1 hour. So as you see the saving are there of money and the other savings of time with the added bonus of security.
If you can’t afford to pay for a taxi, you don’t have to say that the other people are rich. If you have to spend $50+ for a taxi in exchange for convenience and comfortable, it would not break your bank. Just saying. 😂
That is kind of a tricky statement. I guess I should’ve said the odds of it happening to you are very low. Every day in Rome, somebody is going to have their luggage stolen but the odds of it being you is very very low, especially if you watch my video!
@@RozierRoma Prices just started going down on Air B&B for Roma ... I think by the beginning of Sept. I'll be able to get a real good deal close to the center ... Anyway ... your videos are excellent ... People don't know your really like a local ... lol !!!

he stated that the train from Rome to Florence was 9 euros. that is incorrect. it is about 60 euros one way. this has to be an old video. i live in Italy and i know the train prices.
I do not think you know the train prices as well as you think? The price was from this year and as we speak I just hopped on Italo to check the one way price and I can find it for €14.90 each way on my first search. At times they have even steeper discounts (under €10) but you have to purchase in advance. Look on Italo for mid November travel & you will see the rates I speak of. This is for high speed trains.

the agents carry with them a devise you tap with your card and it let's them know if it was used or not. A very fast process.
So if I use tap and go for the metro or bus, is there still a need to validate?
No, if you need proof you just tap a devise they carry
About tap and go: You CAN use the same card for two people if you use two different turnstiles. My husband would tap me through then use a different gate to tap himself through. So, two devices, two cards, or two turnstiles.
Same card can only be used if on 2 separate devices if you tap twice with same card or devise it will only charge once
@@RozierRoma two different turnstiles. One of the Metro employees told us at the ticket window.
no will not work. If you need to show proof you will have a problem, everyone needs to use seperate devise
@@RozierRoma all I know is what the ticket agent told us and we did. 🤷🏻♀️
Do we need to show a passport at the Colosseum?
A picture of it is all you need if asked. I have never been asked to show it. last time I was inside was a few months back
Hey, so if we use tap and go to pay for our metro tickets.. how will we show proof for “Validation” when we would get stopped.. tia
they carry a devise that you tap and it verifies if payment was made

Best place for :
Romantic yummy authentic dinner?
Roof top drinks with great view?
Best Gelato (real) ?
Best tiramisu?
Dude ... I'm taking an 8 euro Bus from the airport this time !!! Not a 50 euro taxi ... you must be rich ... lol
I agree with you@@RozierRoma
@@RozierRomavery helpful clarification, thanks.
If you can’t afford to pay for a taxi, you don’t have to say that the other people are rich. If you have to spend $50+ for a taxi in exchange for convenience and comfortable, it would not break your bank. Just saying. 😂
@@huoymeas-4737 I'm cheap ...
Luggage theft “doesn’t happen often but does happen every day”. Lol.
That is kind of a tricky statement. I guess I should’ve said the odds of it happening to you are very low. Every day in Rome, somebody is going to have their luggage stolen but the odds of it being you is very very low, especially if you watch my video!
I will never go to Roma in the Summer ... !!!
Yah we usually leave Rome for the Summer returning in the fall. Thanks for watching
@@RozierRoma Prices just started going down on Air B&B for Roma ... I think by
the beginning of Sept. I'll be able to get a real good deal close to the center ... Anyway ... your videos are excellent ...

lol !!!
@@superdivemaster Yah I noticed that. Book about 2 weeks out for best deals, last minute works sometimes but sometines it backfires as the few places that are left for hundreds!
@@superdivemaster Yah I noticed that prices are coming down. Best to book 1 to 2 weeks out for best savings but somtimes that can backfire when only a few places are left they go for several hudred per night. When that happens I use plab B and stay in Tivoli until prices come down.
he stated that the train from Rome to Florence was 9 euros. that is incorrect. it is about 60 euros one way. this has to be an old video. i live in Italy and i know the train prices.
So, you don't have to validate when using Tap & Go ???
If they request proof of payment they have a devise that you tap and it lets them know if card was used for payment.
