they apparently haven't done pso shader precompiling. It is an unreal thing as in it's not documented properly and a pain to fix, but at this point, everyone and their mother knows about this issue and should have handled it in their unreal project properly

Did we judge Kiloton and Nacon too harshly perhaps? The only thing that EA WRC has done really well so far is the marketing and presentation; they've managed to promote the game using the real WRC drivers, as well as using the official WRC narrator in the game. That's great and all, but other than that the game feels somewhat rushed and unfinished.
Absolutely not, those games were completely half-baked content wise, handled woefully, looked even worse and changed very little between each rendition. This is a very big step back to the right direction, but it needs a lot of work to be perfect
WRC Generations is a lot worse than this. Jesus Christ. This game doesn't have fundamental issues like that game had. This one just needs some optimizing.

What a spot on review absolutely nailed it Dirt Rally 2.0 is miles better than this unfinished game, can’t believe they used unreal 4 Ego is far superior in every way.
I've played it, and honestly I'd rather play WRC with the stutters than DR2.0 It has wayyy better and more stages and the driving physics is the sweetspot between sim and simcade
Exactly, it does say it was reviewed on Xbox, but why ignore the PC version. Why not mention in the review that the PC game is a much better looking and smoother experience? Since most of the reasons why this was given a 6/10 appears to be due to console issues.
Everything keeping this game from being great can and most likely will easily be fixed with patches, code Masters has long history of supporting and updating their games such as with the other dirt titles, dirt 2.0 needed a lot of updates before it got where it's at now.

It's totally normal now for games to just release unfinished and be finished a year later. Almost every big publisher game. It's kind of like they design to do that.
As a VR-only simracer (especially for rally stuff), the performance of ACC in VR was enough of a concern for the Unreal engine swap.. The fact that VR hasn't released yet and even 2D mode is having major performance issues is so disappointing. EA doesn't have a track record of fixing this stuff post-launch so they're not gonna get the benefit of the doubt. I'll wait out those updates / discounts before jumping into this one.
Though EA's stages are better than Generations (most are modelled off the real roads), and the driving physics is pretty much the gameplay. Just take away the stutters and bamb 10/10 IGN
The rain looks awful. Overall, the graphics in dirt rally 2 seemed better. The terrain looked better, lighting looked better, texture work was crisper, etc. And the performance was better too...
Ive said this before and my oh my it still holds true, modern games are technically inferior to older games, but tech sites like digital foundry keep pretending nothings wrong and simply praise any game with raytracing effects while technically looking and performing worse than 10+ year old games

It's interesting that while he was talking about how controllers feel on tarmac, he shows a clip of him spinning out on tarmac at 8:03. The car did not loop out because of the twitchy controller handling on tarmac, it looped because of the severe lift off oversteer that's in this game. I've never seen any racing game with this severe of lift off oversteer.
After having played EA WRC, WRCG is lightyears ahead and not just because it's a more stable experience but the driving and vehicle physics are top-notch. In recent years, only SLRE and WRCG/10 have actually delivered anywhere near a believable rally experience. The new EA game just felt like Dirt4's toy-car physics with some forced loss of traction every now and then. So artificial and unintuitive. Shame that KT never acknowledged or seriously attempted to fix some of the bugs pertaining to throttle output curve etc because if they had ironed out those bugs, the game would have gone down in history as one of the very best in the genre

@@od13166 flat out 2 still held up great. Same with dangerous driving. Unreal engine 4 but still lacked the feel of burnout 3 takedown. At least that wasn't the fault of the devs as they couldn't use renderware engine due to copyright issues and they couldn't create an engine from scratch as they were a small team of ex criterion employees.

I've played Dirt Rally 1 and 2.0 extensively, and can say that once WRC's performance is address, it's head and shoulders better than 2.0 - Driving feel - Tarmac physics - Heaps of rally stages - WRC cars - Career mode

Not a bad PS3 game tbh, tho even on PS2 (maybe even PS1 lol) the car got muddy and snowy... What is happening to gaming? We are getting lots of terrible releases in 2023.
This is the most fun I’ve had in a game for some time. Yeah the graphics aren’t the best but when you’re racing through a stage at top speed and trying to nail a hairpin you don’t even notice it.
Oh well, so long, Codemasters. When this underperforms in sales, EA, being EA, will probably shutter them. For me, the biggest surprise is that EA didn't mandate the use of the Frostbite engine...
Setting antialliasing to medium and anisotropic to 2x removes the stutter. There is an update coming soon that will fix this. The game BTW is amazing, the stages, the car selection and physics are top notch.
Thanks for this review, this has confirmed I'm staying well away from this game. This has also reconfirmed how awful of a company EA are, just money hungry scammers in the gaming world. If there is a shortcut to be had you can be assured EA will take it.

The stuttering must be a Unreal thing. Robocop has the same thing at times. And it totally loses it during massive gunfights.

You can’t patch graphics. All the assets are old and dated. You need an entirely new game.
The WRC games almost never get fixed, EA acts like its not worth their time.

Oh yes, it's very intentional and will only get worse if accepted by the consumer.
It is included in game development life cycle.. beta release then fix it from users feedback.

Not a bad PS3 game tbh, tho even on PS2 (maybe even PS1 lol) the car got muddy and snowy... What is happening to gaming? We are getting lots of terrible releases in 2023.

This is the most fun I’ve had in a game for some time.
Yeah the graphics aren’t the best but when you’re racing through a stage at top speed and trying to nail a hairpin you don’t even notice it.

Every game that uses UE5 has performance issues. They shouldn't jumped so fast on a new engine.
It's on UE4 not 5, which makes it even worse that is in this state

Oh well, so long, Codemasters. When this underperforms in sales, EA, being EA, will probably shutter them. For me, the biggest surprise is that EA didn't mandate the use of the Frostbite engine...

Nailed the review, just a crappy half finished game, seems the norm these days
Setting antialliasing to medium and anisotropic to 2x removes the stutter.
There is an update coming soon that will fix this.
The game BTW is amazing, the stages, the car selection and physics are top notch.
So if I'm to understand this right, there are no recent sim-cade racing game releases worth trying this year...neat😔
Try Motorsports for the fun multiplayer and WRC is still highly enjoyable outside of the stutters

This has also reconfirmed how awful of a company EA are, just money hungry scammers in the gaming world. If there is a shortcut to be had you can be assured EA will take it.

Shader compilation stutter will always be there, even with the best hardware. It seems to be inherent with unreal engine.
This must be fixed!

Why are you comparing this game to dr2 whilst there have been wrc games every year?
Because this is not a sequel to WRC games but to Dirt games - this is a Codemasters game
He compared it to both, but the Team making this year WRC is the one that made Dirt Rally 2 so its more of a Dirt 3 than WRC 23
It doesn't matter with which you compare it, it looks worse than both
DR2 is the gold standard.
Would not change anything, WRC Generations is still better then EA WRC.
the rwd handling is awful. it is almost impossible to get the rear end out before turns by choosing a low gear and adjust the slide with the clutch.
Yh seems so idk, saw a old escort gameplay and it never oversteered.
Unless in a countersteer imbalance situation.
