this is the best review on youtube about Lyra Rembrandt ..I have the same set which came without violet and grey and the lightfastness rating is not true , the light blue (047) faded after 3 day when it was exposed to the sun and the rest of the blues and all the reds and canary yellow faded in two weeks , I should admit the weather is very severe in my country and the temperature is over 42 degrees.

nano vega - Thank you for the comment. I will check out the lightfast results. I do for most of the pencils I review but it usually takes 6 months to get some results. If they aren't very lightfast then they can't really be compared with other artist grade pencils.

Just an update on Colorfastness of these pencils. I have done tests for 4 weeks now. Of course, these tests were conducted in October, but a sunny October. So far I am not seeing any noticeable fading. I will probably do a post on them a year from now to see how well they hold up to the summer months. Also, from my research it appears the splender pencils (blender) comes in the 36 set and the 72 set.

    Thanks for this review!
I've seen several Lyra reviews today, because I'm having doubts (for 4 weeks...) if I:
    a) need another set of pencils
    b) if I should go for Polychromos (120) or the Lyra (72) set
The marble-drawing is very handy! The Polychromos marble looks só much better than de Lyra marble!
I already have a set of Derwent Coloursoft (72), FC Black Edition (50), Spectrum Noir Colorista (4 sets of 12) and Bruynzeel Pastel Colors (12).
I do like the Derwent, but the tips keep losing little 'crumbles' and they get stump pretty quick; not really handy when trying to color small details. And of course there is the waxbloom...
Every day my brain says 'WOMAN, BUY THOSE POLYCHROMOS!', so maybe I should listen to it... 🤣
I'll just sleep another night over it... 😆

This is the type of review that i like. Direct and objective. Do you have a comparison with Holbein pencils.

Thanks. I haven't purchased Holbein pencils. It was on my xmas list, but my finances weren't quite in order to go ahead with the purchase. I do hope to pick up a set in the next 6 to 8 months.

It helped me so much! I'm in doubt if I buy Polychromos set of 36 (amazing color chart, the best I've ever seen for a 36 set) or Lyra's 72, since they are the same price. 😹

I would go Faber Castell Polychromos. 36 set you can generally get by with. You'd be missing the cold grays and a couple of the dark browns that come with the 60 set. But, still good set of colors to work with. I thought the Lyra's may be a very good artist quality alternative at a better price. They are still holding up nicely in my lightfast tests. But I found working with them very trying. I really don't want to draw for an hour and have a sore hand or fingers. Especially if I plan on spending several hours drawing. Polychromos are so much more enjoyable.

Do you know anything about lokss colored pencils soft series like what they are made of

No actually I don't. And it is hard to find out any information about them. And I don't want to judge a book without at first seeing the cover, I am skeptical of new products that are not backed at least by a web page (These appear to be Facebook/Shopify). In e-commerce it is very easy to have a cheap set of pencils developed overseas and then sell them on Amazon, Ebay or Shopify. The problem with this type of business is the seller is focused purely on margin and profit (which makes sense). In order to focus on margin, they will often move their supplier to cut costs when they can. In the end you have no idea if what you are getting is going to be a quality product, or similar to what you purchased last time. And in many cases, they really only want to sell you one set of pencils. Keep in mind, I already said I know nothing of the brand. With brands like Faber Castell or Prismacolor, there is better visibility. They have different levels of pencils. You know where they are made. And you know they are focused on improving their product (and making a profit). As for figuring out what they are made of. Get a piece of scrap paper. Color in a patch of a vibrant color like red or blue. Now get some vegetable or peanut oil. Put some oil on your finger and rub it on the color patch. If it dissolves, then they are oil based. If not, then probably wax based. I've done this for Prismacolor and Faber Castell Polychromos. Assuming you already have the pencils. Which if you do, feel free to let us know what YOU think of them.

Hello 🤩 super...) What is paper..?

Strathmore drawing paper, 70lb 11 by 14 inch. It is inexpensive and I usually use it for rough work, testing out pencils or ideas. Generally won't use for drawings I want to keep. Too thin.
