I remember similar experiences when I was in speech therapy as a 3 year-old, in which my therapists used play-doh to compare hippopotamus sizes in sentences. Perhaps Aria was flapping her hands out of anxiety while thinking of an answer as I have similar feelings when I am badgered to make difficult choices although my emotions in such situations tend to be frustration and annoyance. Anxiety is prompted by the adrenal medulla releasing epinephrine (adrenaline) while anger is prompted when the adrenal medulla releases norepinephrine (noadrenaline), both of which result from the zona facisculata layer of the adrenal cortex releasing cortisol. I usually isolate myself from such situations before I have meltdowns although I have them when I feel disrespected or forced to contend with blatant hypocrisy.

I love watching videos to help with my child's speech development. I also just came across "speech stars for kids". Very helpful info!

My son gets distracted so easily and hardly ever want to engage in any activity that has been offered unless it is something he likes .

This activity is not child lead, motivating or an example of least to most prompting. SLP should presume competence in the client and fade her verbal cues

There is nothing wrong with his hands flapping around it’s called stimming and helps him regulate his emotions. It’s also comforting for children with ASD.
