He was going crazy, ripping around the arena, bucking & snorting like a dragon!

  • Rudnik loves his play time in the arena but I’ve never seen him go quite this crazy before!
    Because he HAS jumped the fence before, I was genuinely convinced he was going to try it again.
    The last time he did it, he jumped the fence at the gate, where it’s a bit lower than the fence line. So while he was ripping around I decided to stand at the fence to - hopefully - deter him from trying it again.
    Either that or he’d just decide to jump ontop of me 🥲

    He is clearly excited and alert. He is the herd Lead now. He didn't care for the others being so far away.
    Which is why, with the wind blowing, he could've been on alert to demonstrate his observation and dislike of that distance.
    Wow! This horse amazes me.
    Lord, how I would love to take him on a good warm up and hard flat out run for 1/2 mile or more.
    He's getting in great shape.
    For hard work, he would need to come down another 50 lbs.
    Thank you so much for sharing this high quality horse.

    He's just showing off - the pretty braid on his tail, that "running butt" move he has... And I seriously agree with you - he was eyeballing that fence. It always amazes me that they COULD probably go over most fences, but they don't! I had a dog who could jump almost 5' in the air from standing still (swear that dog was part kangaroo), but she never quite figured out she could clear a 3' baby gate. Thankfully!!

I’ve also set the playback speed at .75, because with white lettering on a white cloudy sky it gets difficult to take it all in at normal speed. It’s nice to get the message of what’s going on in the video so watching several times is no issue for me.

    He looks really fit! This is how Jena Antonucci kept Arcangelo both fit and happy to win the Belmont-- by letting him play freely in a pen. The horse will exercise himself! I bought a horse totally wasting from being abandoned a year or longer inside a stall. I felt sorry for him and made a vow that I would get him out of the stall Every Single Day. I kept this vow his whole life too. But I worked full time, so most days I just let him exercise himself in a very small paddock, at a "hack stable". His wasted body got terrific muscles and he got so spirited that I could not ride him. He just ran away with me. (I became good at galloping, but I was no good at slow figure 8s). But riders who were trained properly themselves were able to slow him down and do beautiful dressage! I don't know why a horse as fit as yours is too fat, but i wonder if it is due to mental stress from changing his diet and routine, in and out of a pasture??? Why is he not allowed out into grass with his herd? I bet he would get fitter out in the pasture. I wish I had had pastures like you have, because after I moved my horse to a big farm, he became even fitter and happier. And do did I! I took lessons where a famous rider lunged me without reins on a horse. She made me lean backwards and grip the saddle, not reins. I was getting old then, so was my horse, but we were doing better. My horse would jump out of a paddock over a fence as high as yours, from a STANDSTILL on the lead line, to get into grass. They crave pasture grazing, which gave me the idea that your horse is just unhappy in this paddock.

    • @rudniktheroan
      @rudniktheroan  Месяц назад +1

      He does get exercise in the pasture for sure so he does go out a couple days a week. However until his weight comes down a bit more it’s a bit too much having 24/7 access to all that grass when he doesn’t really have an ‘off’ switch - so I’m just trying to bring his weight back down to a healthier level and then he can go back out full time again! It’s just temporary as he gained so much so fast over the spring but we’re making progress!
