Wow i had no idea i own so much Grojsman. Thank you for this video. Probably an unpopular opinion but my favourite Grojsman is and always will be Eternity by CK❤❤❤❤❤❤
Neither had I. This was exactly one of the points I wanted to make in the video. We've been enjoying her creations for decades without knowing who the nose behind them was. CK Eternity is another great one although I don’t own it. I get a lot of carnation, but it still feels kind of fresh. Thanks for watching!🙂
Hi Luke, you do such amazing ode to the perfumes you review, and yes I do believe given the synthetic nature of new perfumes (post IFRA), the golden age of perfumery may well be behind us! So many of her perfumes are so beloved, and I own many. Yes, you can find Yvresse, though it comes in a different bottle and has been reformulated, it is not bad as a plan B. Keep your vintage one for special occasions like I do.
Hi there and thank you. I'm afraid you may be right, although new releases like Cabochard 2019 give me hope that not everything is lost. If they managed to create a potent vintage-style chypre with modern ingredients, then it can still be done if the company is willing. White Linen also still lists oak-moss extract in the ingredients. You're correct. I've seen Yvresse in new bottles, but it’s either ridiculously expensive or out of stock so that’s why I said I’m not sure whether they actually still make it or not. I use mine very sparingly; it's so potent that I don't need more than three sprays, and I'm someone who tends to overspray.🙂 Thanks for watching!
Luke - so this is another one of your recs that I am thrilled to have. I got my vintage bottle of Yvresse - bit my nails the whole time it was traveling to me, given I spent way too much on it - but OMG - it's divine! As you say of yours, I too got a vintage in which every note is still present, and well, I just love love love it. Mine however is not everlasting. Five sprays lasted me 6 hours I want to say. It's possible my bottle needs to sit and will get stronger with time...I hope so because I kinda do want to smell like Yvresse forever! 😊
Hi there! I’m so happy that you love it and that you got a well-preserved bottle! Perfumes get shaken up while being transported so sometimes they might improve after you’ve let them sit for a few days. Still, 6 hours of decent performance is quite good for an EdT. But I swear, mine really lasts forever. No matter when I spray it, I can smell it all day. Thanks for the update.🙂
@@lukeparfums - you're going to laugh and think this old lady is truly bonkers - but I'm hunting down a good vintage of Dior Dolce Vita now. Your descriptions of it sound wonderful! You know - I am a perfumaholic without a doubt - but at the end of the day - the vintage route is so much more satisfying than these modern perfumes that the majority of influencers on youtube push in droves. Either they are "clean" or "freshies" - (translation, imho, they smell like nothing) - or they are so sickeningly sweet, they make you scream for an airsick bag. Very few modern perfumes seem to have any artistry to them - unlike the great vintages. There are exceptions of course - I do appreciate many Serge Lutens fragrances - some Frederic Malles - and Chanel keeps churning out unaffordable but nice scents - but in general - I say - eh - give me those oldies but goodies! For me, vintage Samsara still rules the roost...😃
When I was a kid, my dad took me perfume shopping to buy a gift for my mother. She wanted YSL Opium but little girl me fell in love with YSL Paris, and that’s what my mother received. I still have a vintage bottle in my collection and now I’m buying more vintage perfumes by Sofia Grojsman like YSL Champagne, CK Eternity, and Christian Lacroix.
Luke! Happy New Year 🎉🎉! I’ve never tried White Linen. ‘Larger than life’ is right up my alley!😂 Nuclear explosion? Sign me up!😂 I have Tresor and La Nuit Tresor A La Folie, Intense, and Nude. I love all of them as well as Idol Nectar and La Vie Est Belle. I love Lancôme fragrances. I need to try Elizabeth Taylor fragrances. I only have Passion. Yvresse will be used sparingly so I don’t have to repurchase. Bombastic….😂😂😂 I hope you have a wonderful new year…..
Thank you so much for your constant comments and support in 2023. I wish you a Happy New Year too! 🎉 White Linen really packs a punch when you first apply it, but it wears closer to the skin once it dries down. From the ones you mentioned, I like the Nude version of LNT; not a fan of any of the other flankers or any post-2010 Lancome releases, including La Vie Est Belle. I think you might really enjoy White Diamonds and Diamonds and Emeralds, based on the scents I know you like. To afford one big bottle of Yvresse, I'd have to sell half of my collection; they're so expensive on eBay. By the way, I ordered Sensuous - I think that's the one you were telling me about. It was more than half off on some grey market website. Honey, sandalwood, magnolia… it sounds incredible.
@@lukeparfums Thank you! I have La Vie Est Belle Intensement. I like it better than the original. Funny story…. I watch a woman who has a perfume channel. She’s a sweetheart. For La Vie Est Belle, she was pronouncing all three letters of EST. I don’t usually say anything, but I finally couldn’t stand it! 😂 I sent her a DM. I said I knew that she wanted a professional appearance for her channel, and corrected the pronunciation. Very kindly, and not publicly. She thanked me. Next time she said it correctly. She also says ‘Patrooli’ for patchouli!😳 I’m ignoring that. I’m going to be on the lookout for White Diamonds and Diamonds and emeralds 🤭 In my subscription on FragranceNet, this month I got Van Cleef and Arpels Orchidee Vanille. A very nice, not too sweet vanilla. I got a Sephora gift card for Christmas. I bought YSL Black Opium Over Red. I really like it! I also caved and bought Casamorati Bouquet Ideale pre owned for $125. Normally well over $300. Xerjoff is pricey! I love Sensuous! My husband had to work on NYE, but was home by 10:15, so we could still ring in the New Year together.
That was very kind and tactful of you. Things like this bother me too, although I never say anything. I wish people would tell me if I'm unknowingly mispronouncing something. I know it happens sometimes. But slip-ups aren't the same as badly mispronounced French, which is preventable. That's awesome! You got so many new fragrances. I'm curious to smell the 'red' Black Opium. The Xerjoff was an amazing deal. I'm glad you had a lovely New Year's Eve. I went to a party but couldn't stay up very long. Fell asleep soon after midnight.😅 As I age, although I’m still relatively young, I feel that I need more and more sleep to function properly.
The Over Red has a cherry note, but it’s more of a nuance and doesn’t overpower the fragrance. We like to stay in. Too many impaired drivers! Henry will be 76 in February. I’m still 74. Between us that’s three quarters of a century!😳😳 Where does the time go?? We make sure to ring in each new year, and then go to sleep…..we need our sleep!😂 Who knows how many New Years we have left together. We don’t want any regrets! On that maudlin note…I’ll shut up!😂😂😂
Not maudlin at all. I like your mentality. It’s what life is all about… living it with the people you love, doing what brings you joy, and being grateful for being more fortunate than some. If this doesn't sound maudlin…
@@lukeparfums unfortunately yes, in my country is no longer available and I am sure because I wanted to buy and in summer I have seen the video of a French reviewer

As for Tresor , I have to retest after hearing your story about it , thank you for sharing , I was never aware of Tresor’s being tied to Casablanca so it was so cool to learn and makes me wanna go find it ! Hi there. I’m sorry that Diamonds and Emeralds didn’t work for you; perhaps try Diamonds and Rubies, a much softer spicy rose scent. It’s a fascinating story indeed. Thank you for commenting. 🙂🧡
Thank you for the fabulous Grojsman education. I’ve owned and wore her creations since I was a child. I currently have Paris, Calyx, Volupté, Neblina, and a vintage Trésor. My grandmother wore White Linen and Nude by Bill Blass which was an aldehyde bomb if I’m not mistaken. I’d like to own them as well. Happy new year!
Hi there. That's amazing! I haven't tried Calyx or Neblina, but I love Trésor and Paris. Bill Blass is indeed very aldehydic and mossy. Thank you for watching, and I wish you a Happy New Year! 🎉
Luke - I'm working my way backward through your videos and enjoying each and every one! I'm telling you, your voice was made for narration! Anyway, a question: I loved your description of Yvresse and it totally made me want to get my nose on it. I looked on Ebay and that vintage version you have is wildly expensive now. But there is a modern version available on the gray market and on online discounters in the U.S. and Canada. I'm wondering if you are familiar with that newer formulation and if it is anything like the vintage? Finally, I loved the Isabella Rossellini story you told! Truth really is stranger than fiction!
Hi there, I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos! Thank you for the compliment… Can you imagine that I hated it when I was younger? Regarding Yvresse, a very good friend of mine owns and really enjoys the current version. She says it’s still very good. The essence of Yvresse is still there so it’s worth it if you can find it for a good price. However, the vintage version is on another level, but the prices have really gone through the roof. I got mine when it was still relatively reasonably priced. But you know how eBay is. I hope this helps.🙂
@@lukeparfums It helps a lot - thank you. And no, I can't believe you hated your voice when you were "young" (you sound very young still - to me!). Anyway, I bet it was when you were a teenager. Hi Luke, Pure White Linen (the blue one) from Estée Lauder was my summerscent since the release, 2006. Such a beautiful, flowery and soft fragrance. Unfortunately it's discontinued. You know maybe a dupe of this beloved perfume? I'm thinking of Christalle edt and I have my Dune. But I would be very glad to have a fragrance like Pure White Linen. I think it's the Honeysuckle that I like so much.
Hi there, I haven’t smelt Pure White Linen in a very very long time so I don’t know of any dupes. One that comes to mind that might be slightly similar is Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue. I don’t claim it’s a dupe though. Thanks for watching!🙂
Well that's also a coincidance. I just come home from shopping and at the drugstore I've tried Elizabeth Ardens 5th Avenue! And though it's sweeter as Pure White Linen, it's also a very pleasant and soft fragrance. Thank you.
I always think Grojsman has a vibe that echoes l'heure bleu. Trésor is the fragrance that most exemplifies her work for me. The original with the heavy overdose of galaxolide is very different. I have to say, it's something I don't love. If she's the perfumer, I tend to stay away, it's just not me in general, but I do think she made some striking fragrances.
Hi there. I agree with you about L’Heure Bleue. I read that galaxolide is supposed to smell like laundry detergent to some people, and Trésor sometimes has that fabric softener vibe for me. But it doesn’t bother me. I completely understand that. Sometimes, a perfumer’s DNA just doesn’t work for you, and Grojsman’s signature is very particular. For me, it's Kurkdjian. While there are some earlier creations of his that I love, such as Green Tea, I tend to dislike things like Baccarat or any of its smell-alikes. I’m also not a fan of his work for Dior (J’Adore L’Or) so it makes me not want to try anything more. Thanks for watching!🙂
@@lukeparfums yes I get that too, I like some of his stuff but really all of his MFK stuff and the main line Diors, have been a no... Galaxolide in Trésor makes me think of cigarettes, but yes there is a lot of texture too which I don't enjoy. Plus the powdery peach apricot is not my favourite.
That’s interesting. I bought two discovery sets from MFK, and the only two I liked are Grand Soir and Gentle Fluidity Gold but I wouldn’t purchase either. Everything else is a no for me.
