    I own a Ranger and I love mine. With an easy override option on the controls, mine cruises at 24 on level ground. Top speed downhill is a bone curdling 30 mph. Going up the same hill it slows to 13 without peddling. Nothings hard. It makes riding a bike fun. I'm seeing things in my area I never knew was there, and I've lived here 44 years. I added a bigger Schwinn seat from Walmart and a mirror so I can see what's coming up from behind. Also put an insulated pouch on the rear rack and a holster to carry my 38 special on the wide spot of the frame below the handle bars. (ran up on a pit bull, unleashed, while exploring a dirt road) I get tons of compliments and questions while riding. I'll say I'm 62 and weigh in at 152 lbs. I had no problem folding and lifting it into the back of my Rav4. I stood it up with my dogs crate next to it. Worked great and it was a blast to have while visiting Charleston SC. If you're trying to decide what to buy, all I can say is I don't know what else you could want. Fast, fun, great range, comfortable seat and front sprocket suspension. And I see ones that cost three times as much without even having front suspension which is uber important for riding comfort. Hope this helps someone.

    Smart for these companies to bring more step thru bikes to market. Considering a majority of e bike buyers are older folks, a step thru is a most for most of them. Myself included.

      74% of ebike owners are under 40 with most being under 30. But yes, most people want an ebike as a multi use tool, not just a toy or a trail bike so comfort and usability is important.

    Greetings all. I own and have been riding the Heybike Mars for nearly two months and can say, I love it. On a full battery charge, I can reach 23-24 mph with peddle assist. This is NOT an upgrade, per se. The only upgrade is, it's easier to mound.

    Thank you for this in-depth review. I'm currently looking for an e-bike to commute to and from work with and this one feels like it would be my best bet. I live in a relatively flat area, lots of sidewalks as well and the fact this is foldable and a step-through really sells me. May be picking this up sometime soon.

    Per google maps reading, i hit 36 goong down hill on a mountain road in Oregon on my ranger. That was certainly an adrenaline rush. I do wish it had a rear shock instead of just the seat suspension. It can get uncomfortable after a while if the road isn't so smoothe, speed bumps, just long rides, etc. I put a wider seat on ky wife's. Gonna do mine too. Ive hit some hills that in PAS 3 and 1sr or 2nd gear, since im mostly a rider on a busy roadway, it was just worth it to walk it up the sidewalks. 2-3 mph for almost a mile is brutal lol.

  • @SaroBW
    @SaroBW 3 года назад +2

    I always like your reviews. Very down to earth.
    The "mag" wheels are a bit of a tradeoff. While you don't need to periodically check for loose spokes, if you do bend a wheel out of true a bit, tightening and loosening some spokes (within limits) can straighten the rim out. If you knock these wheels out of true, it will take a pro to fix it, or probably just replace it. Because of this, it seems Heybike rates the Mars better for off road riding than the Ranger. For most people, this isn't an issue, but anyone wanting to do some serious dirt bike style riding (which the Mars will handle) might want to stick with the Mars over the Ranger.
    It's sort of annoying that one reason I chose the Mars over the Lectric XP 2.0 I had put on order was the larger battery capacity. And now Heybike taunts me with both a step thru model and a larger battery. I suspect if I buy the Ranger they will come out with a mid-drive, belt driven model. LOL

    • @JeremiahMcintosh

    • @RealDocJames
      @RealDocJames 3 года назад +1

      As a pro bike mechanic I fully concur with your assessment regarding mag wheels. You're definitely better off taking spoked wheels off road.
      BTW, I bought a Lectric 2.0 a month ago. And guess what, my Heybike Ranger is expected to be delivered tomorrow. Yeah, that bigger battery was hard to pass up. Haha

    AWESOME REVIEW! I’m a Newbie to ebikes and just subscribed to your channel. You definitely provide the most info on the bike you’re reviewing and an honest review. Can’t thank you enough for that! I just pulled the trigger and bought the HeyBike Ranger. I can’t wait to get it. I was torn between the Lectric XP 2.0 and the Ranger but went with the Ranger because of my size (6’1”, 300lbs) and the better battery. Do you think I made the right choice between the 2? And because I’m a bigger/heavier rider, would it be recommended to lock the suspension? Thanks again for this review and all the info on this bike! Because of this video, HeyBike added another sale to their books! They should be super thankful for you and your videos! Cheers!

    Great reviews Jeremiah, thank you very much for your exhaustive real-world tests. Over the past few days I've watched a number of your reviews and plan to continue. Subscribed! I would like to know if you were able to figure out how to get the realtime wattage draw information to display while riding? Would like to know what the peak watts are when doing top speed or hill climbs? Knowing real-time wattage usage would also be very helpful in figuring out the difference between PAS and full throttle energy usage at the different PAS levels. If you don't mind me making a suggestion, could you consider standardizing on which hills you are using for your hill climb tests for all your reviews moving forward? Same start location and end locations. You could time how fast it climbs at full power throttle only and with PAS. And time them from start to finish to really allow an apples to apples comparison when considering the performance between bikes? Thanks again!

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 года назад +1

      Thank You for the recommendation. I have been thinking of a way to try to standardize my hill test not really going to time it but see how far throttle only will pull me up before I start pedaling which is typically what I have been doing in my last few videos.

    • @EuropaWill
      @EuropaWill 2 года назад

      @@JeremiahMcintosh The mode button on the left hand button cluster should cycle through the bottom Odometer portion of the display to show you real-time wattage, were you able to get that to display? Another suggestion for your ebike reviews is it would be nice to learn your impressions of how these ebikes do with just human power alone under varied terrain, and commenting on how well you can put power to the wheels through leg power alone. That'll expose gearing, rolling resistance, weight, and riding geometry shortcomings that are mostly not an issue when under motor power but can really make or break getting back home if the battery or electronics cut out in the middle of a ride!

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 года назад

      Thank you for the suggestion I will think about including that in the future. I have done something similar in previous videos but not on multiple terrain.

    I like the Ranger and have been comparing it to the Lectric 3.0XP long range. My wife is 5’ so I’m thinking of the Lectric for her. My question is . . . do you think she’s too short for the Ranger with a Seat height of 31” on the Lectric being 30”? Not much difference on seat heights between the two. Also the length of the Lectric is 67” vs 69” on Ranger.

    I cannot find anything anywhere about the Heybike Ranger having Cruise Control? Every other e-bike either has cruise conrol via pushing and holding a certain control button, or simply by maintaining the same speed for 8 seconds and then it activates cruise control automatically. Weir that nowhere in the owners manual or any revie videos anyone is mentioning anything about it. Is it really possible this e-bike doesn't have it? Thx

Out the box my bike started moving by itself and still does till this day and my headlight blinks when going over bumps yet every wire is securely connected

    How do u ride bike with throttle only without pedal assist

    • @JeremiahMcintosh
      @JeremiahMcintosh  2 года назад

      Just use the throttle on the handlebars. You don’t have to pedal for the throttle to work.

      @@JeremiahMcintosh damn it, I bought an ebike from Amazon and the hand throttle won't work. I thought it was a setting issue but it's not. I think its a defect

    • @JeremiahMcintosh

      Could be a loose connector or it could be in the settings. Make sure you are in pas 1-5 also for the throttle to work on the newer version.

    So I'm getting into my first ebike, and I know I want one of these Heybike fat tires. Is the Ranger worth that extra $300 over the Mars?

      Hey 👋. Got my ranger in yesterday. Just got finished my first test ride. I will say that I haven't experienced the mars. That being said the major reason why I chose the Ranger over the Mars was because of the Ranger being class 3 as opposed to the Mars being class 2. Basically what that means is that the controller on the class 2 Mars will stop providing assistance once a certain speed is reached, around 20 mph. By contrast the Ranger will continue to provide assistance up to the legal level cap for e bikes in most places of 28 mph. This is if you're light enough and the road is level enough. At 6'2" and 246 lbs I don't expect to get that high with just the 500 W motor. For this reason I was going to get the 750 W Explorer but the fact that it wasn't foldable was a deal breaker. The mag wheels and step through design also helped with my decision.

      @@infernityable1369 I ended up getting a Mars and have gone on a few rides with it. I'm really happy with it. I've never experienced a class 3 bike so I can't really judge if I'm missing anything with a class 2. But so far I've really enjoyed my Mars. The little handle on the frame is a huge plus for me as it makes loading it onto my truck easier as well as moving it in a good spot to lock it up. If it wasn't so hot outside, I'd be riding it all day! I even extended the route I take to get home from work just so I could cruise on it some more. And when I need to leave the road, it feels great cutting across fields and gravel paths.

    This is like a Lectric St on steroids. I may sell my Lectric and get this because the battery on Lectric 2.0 is subpar at 9.8amp hours. I can barely get 14 full miles on a full charges after only putting 45o miles on it, and I (only) weigh 180 pounds and carry no extra weight.

      Not as fast but it has a bigger battery so more range. Is seems similar or slightly more powerful than the ep2 pro but I did not put them side by side yet.
